Ultimate RaspberryPi Rackmount from UCTRONICS

Ultimate RaspberryPi Rackmount from UCTRONICS

I wanted to find a way to mount a handful of raspberry pis to my desk area with easy access for experimentation. Ideally I’d be able to quickly swap SD cards while testing things out, and I want several raspberry pis so I could have some designated for experimentation or certain apps and still have another one for testing or demos on camera.

In this video I assemble the UCTronics Ultimate Raspberry Pi Rackmount U6145. This 1u bracket holds four raspberry pi 4 boards, along with supplied PoE hats, HDMI relocation boards, power buttons and even an OLed status display!

    What about adding hard drives?

Looks like the main option for rack mounted hardware that is also low power consumption! Are there any other Single Board Computers other than Raspberry Pi that are being used like this?

Nice. I was specifically looking for reviews on Uctronics rackmounts. They have a dizzying array of choices. In my case I don't want POE (it's nice, but I need each board directly interfaced into specific non-POE routers). I suppose I can remove the PoE board… but I really like the I2C display.
    (Hey @uctronics you listening 🙂

And yeah, I do not want the fans either. I've invested in "metal heatsinked cases" from GeekWorm and CanaKit… I really don't want to be forced into the POE board just to use the external power and I2C displays.

did you have a issue getting the power buttons to work? What is the USB-C connector on the back of the hat for?

I found this video hoping to find some help on setting up the LED. Being new to RPI in general I got pretty lost with this. At first I was not able to save the rc.local file because I wasnt on root. I did figure this out but after saving the file I still cannot get the LED screen to show anything. Im trying to figure out what I am missing with this. I did note that the first line saying to change directories to /home/pi/U6143_ssd1306/C I dont have that directory on my PI….

I doubt about your explanation about Cat7 RJ45 cables and the metallic side. I have such cables with metallic sides and they are at least 10 years old … For the rest, all good ! 😉

Ben, this topic is of great interest to me. However your delivery and the way you stare off camera made me extremely uncomfortable.

I was reminded of a trip to the Serengeti in my early 20s (this was 1968) where I became stranded. A black mamba approached me in a weakened state with the same look as you.

I'll never forget that snake for sparing my life, but I feel like you wouldn't, given the opportunity.

As I understand, AI face changing filters have come a long way, maybe something to look into for future videos?

Can these be used with SSD drives. NVME M.2 drives? I have several PI's that use anArgon case with and NVME drive and would love to mount rack them.

i think the only thing i don't like about that item, is that they didn't design it to be modular. what i mean is, each time you want to add or remove a pi, the WHOLE shelf needs to be removed.

uctronics does have another version, though with a few less features, where each pi is on its own insert, and thus each pi can be removed on its own.

beyond that, that looks really cool. I love your desktop rack. though personally i have a 42u rack. To each his own there for each situation 😉

i do wish these things were cheaper, as i REALLY want to get a Pi 4B, but i have other priorities that i need to spend money on 🙁

It would be better if they were fully enclosed for dusty environments that's including covers for the front for when you don't use the HDMI board or you don't fill the entire rack up with PIs

@ 6:30 just know that inserting the thin cable from the sd adapter board into the POE hat is really easy. It's not explained anywhere, but before you try to insert it into the POE hat slot, there is a gray clip in the front of the slot that has to be pulled out. Push the cable in and then pop the gray clip back in to secure to thin cable. I had to learn this the hard way.

What is Roblox? ROBLOX is an online virtual playground and workshop, where kids of all ages can safely interact, create, have fun, and learn. It’s unique in that practically everything on ROBLOX is designed and constructed by members of the community. ROBLOX is designed for 13 to 18 year olds, but it is open to people of all ages. Each player starts by choosing an avatar and giving it an identity. They can then explore ROBLOX — interacting with others by chatting, playing games, or collaborating on creative projects. Each player is also given their own piece of undeveloped real estate along with a virtual toolbox with which to design and build anything — be it a navigable skyscraper, a working helicopter, a giant pinball machine, a multiplayer “Capture the Flag” game or some other, yet-to-be-dreamed-up creation. There is no cost for this first plot of virtual land. By participating and by building cool stuff, ROBLOX members can earn specialty badges as well as ROBLOX dollars (“Robux”). In turn, they can shop the online catalog to purchase avatar clothing and accessories as well as premium building materials, interactive components, and working mechanisms.
