Unboxing Anidees AI RAIDER XL Full Tower PC Case
In this video, I’ll be unboxing the Anidees AI RAIDER XL Full Tower PC case. This is somewhat of an unusual PC case because unlike other contemporary PC cases that no longer have 5.25″ drive bays, this AI RAIDER XL case has twelve 5.25″ drive bays! With 12 such bays, you can adapt them using something like the Icy Dock drive cages to build a case with 20x 3.5″ HDD bays. I thought this would be a great tower PC case for a large storage server build and when I shared this with Anidees, they sent me a sample for review.
To see the full specifications of this case, please visit Anidees product page here:

New Home Backup Server (Dell T640 with 18 20TB Disks)
In this video I create a new backup server from a Dell EMC PowerEdge T640 with 18x 20TB Seagate Exos refurbished drives. Also there’s some more ranting about backups in general. But idk, there are chapters so you can skip to whatever. And it’s not technically a server, in that it doesn’t serve files. It’s really more of a client that takes files from other servers and holds onto them. But I call it a backup server because hardware-wise it’s a server. Anywho, that’s the description. It’s probably not optimal for the YouTube algorithm, but hey, I’m not an influencer even though I have a TikTok account that I don’t use.

The Man Who Revolutionized Computer Science With Math
Leslie Lamport revolutionized how computers talk to each other. The Turing Award-winning computer scientist pioneered the field of distributed systems, where multiple components on different networks coordinate to achieve a common objective. (Internet searches, cloud computing and artificial intelligence all involve orchestrating legions of powerful computing machines to work together.) In the early 1980s, Lamport also created LaTeX, a document preparation system that provides sophisticated ways to typeset complex formulas and format scientific documents. In 1989, Lamport invented Paxos, a “consensus algorithm” that allows multiple computers to execute complex tasks; without it, modern computing could not exist. He’s also brought more attention to a handful of problems, giving them distinctive names like the bakery algorithm and the Byzantine Generals Problem. Lamport’s work since the 1990s has focused on “formal verification,” the use of mathematical proofs to verify the correctness of software and hardware systems. Notably, he created a “specification language” called TLA+ (for Temporal Logic of Actions), which employs the precise language of mathematics to prevent bugs and avoid design flaws.

is this the "pro lite" version or the "pro" version?
@awesomearizona-dino
October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
Thats an amazing case. My "server" is an old full tower Antec, 4- 5.25 Bays, 3-3.25 bays, and room for 6 HDD. Those Icy dock HDD/SSD holders have recently gone way up in price.
@TheChadXperience909
October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
Hmmm… This is one to consider. Although, I always prefer my file servers (towers) to include a carry handle or wheels to make it portable for cleaning. You will break your back if you try to lift this thing with 22 x 3.5" spinners installed. I wonder if the rubber feet are removable, so I could replace them with wheels? Hand rails along the top edges would be nice to allow for carrying. Which is another thing that is rare to see in recent cases. Also, the plastic cover at the bottom might block some of the lower drive cages. Plus, it doesn't have a lot of clearance for cable in the back, or the cutouts. I'm not seeing an easy way to route a shorter 24-pin power connector. Also, It doesn't have USB-C. One minor complaint is that it doesn't have room for 6 x 2.5" SSDs, since nobody is running just a plain storage server. We all have hyperconverged servers, and the extra SSDs would be great for the hypervisors to use, and then you can replicate their snapshots to the HDD array, and make them immutable to protect against ransomware attacks. I wonder if you could get a replacement basement drive cage, or find an insert system to expand the 2.5" capability. I'm sure you could probably 3D print something. Maybe they sell accessories? I blame Gamers Nexus for influencing the industry to ONLY make case for high airflow. That is a good thing, but not at the expense of utility as anything other than an overclocking rig. Just buy a faster system, folks! You're already spending the money for all that cooling, and fans, anyways. Also, why can't IcyDock just put slots for their drive cages? There is no reason why they couldn't.
@utilityaccount8514
October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
You could fit as many 140mm x 38mm industrial cooling fans OR 5.25" devices as you see fit! Might have to tape off the panel venting to get air from the front to the back properly but that's the case I've always been looking for.
@CheapSushi
October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
Thank you for showing off this case. I had the same idea with it when I first saw it and the previous RGB one they had (name escaping me). But I just wasn't sure how the 5.25" bay devices would slot in exactly. I was worried there would be either metal tabs or I'd have to buy something specific to hold them in. I have a bunch of Rosewill 4U Chassis but want to go with vertical towers next.
Since most EATX/ATX boards have 7 slots. You can use the additional 3 slots for PCI drive holders that fit 2.5" drives (SSD or HDD) to get even more storage for the case itself. You can do this on the vertical mount too, although that vertical mount is also perfect for a slot fan (lots of options) to help cool HBA cards, network cards, etc.

I am very happy about seeing again Anidees case. After enjoying your video, I revisited the homepage of Anidees. I thought that the company was closed because the hompage was kept broken more than a half year. But, thanks to your video, I knowed that the homepage was renewed and USB 3 ports were included in its cases, etc. I planned to DIY a DAS, Anidees AI Raider XL w/ Icy Dock Black Vortex MB0743P-B an year ago.

October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
I have got the same case 5 month ago. (Ai xl pro variant with mesh and glass fronts instead of drive covers.) I had to cut all 36 tabs with a dremel tool. You only can remove the frame on the left side, the frames on the both front side, where the other 24 tabs are, aren't removable. My 3x 5.25 to 5x 3.5 cages are fitting now. I had to wash the whole case in the bath after the job. Make sure you remove every removable part possible before doing the cut.

Simply superb case! I need a case like this for my space concerns and U-style server cases simply are out of the question since this system will double as my HTPC. Any idea when the AI RAIDER XL will be in stock again? This is a dream case for me!
@sonichedgehog36
October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
Will do! I am also looking to use some 5.25" SATA backplanes. They work with tabs and take up to 5.25". The specific model is StarTech 3-Bay Hot Swap Backplane for 3.5in SAS II/SATA III. My concern is they may be too long. They are 194mm or 7.64 inches long, from the rear grill of the backplane fan to the front face of the backplane. Could you pull out a measuring tape and see if this interferes with the power supply shroud on the bottom?
@sonichedgehog36
October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
As an update, I just received the AI Crystal XL PRO LITE and unfortunately UPS damaged it in shipping, denting up the back side of the case. However, prior to shipping it back, I have confirmed that the StarTech 3-Bay Hot Swap Backplane for 3.5in SAS II/SATA III (194mm length) fits with the power supply shroud installed. However, anything longer than 200mm will stick out beyond the inner lip of the front panel with the shroud installed. That unfortunately means that the Icy Dock FlexCage MB975SP-B at 210mm is a wee bit too long. The flipside is the power supply shroud is removable so the Icy Dock FlexCage can fit. However, you will have to remove the power supply shroud and its attached internal 2 x 3.5-inch drive cage for the FlexCage to fit.
@GerardFreeman

There are icydock cages that have slots in them just to fit that case.
@cinemaipswich4636
October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
I have just bought a Fractal Design "Define 7 XL" and this Anidees has many equal features of the 7XL. Both seem very useful for home servers. Just remember that the maker's hard drive cages, sleds or trays may not be available anymore. Plan ahead, because I was lucky to buy the last few, for the 7XL. I searched for these type of accessories for the TT Core 100/200 cases, but they did not make them anymore, and no one has stock.

October 14, 2024 at 10:29 pm
i can't help but agree with your sentiment about the 5.25" bays and that's why I think Anidees has done something wonderful with these cases where the optical bays can also double as mounting for fans, and radiators. I think more case manufacturers should try making something like this, I know you can just set a 3u or 4u case up on its side and use it like a tower in some cases but its really not the same and for those of us without a rack they can leave a massive footprint just setting them on a desk or shelf. I don't have much space to put my servers and homelab so I really appreciate being able to build in a tower.
@GerardFreeman

Thank you for doing a review on this. I need to future proof my pc for larger next gen GPUs and CPU coolers.

Would this case be able to handle a RTX 4090 with all the 5.25" drive bays used?

Also never heard off this brand. And agree wish more brand would do strange stuff like this. Or for that mater cases that isnt rack mountet. 20 drives is more then i can fit in my Define 7 XL. and cableing in it when using all spots is a b****.

It’s really impossible to find a white case with drive bays. If anyone finds one please let me know. Thanks 🙏

The slots on the plastic "cable management" parts are to secure extremely long server cards. The PCB of the card goes into the slot and prevents sagging. Probably won't work with graphics cards with backlates and huge coolers though.

🥰👍
Add to this the "3.5" to 5.25" HDD Shock Absorption Bracket" and you have 12 relatively quiet hard drives.

I believe you were referring to the Antec 1900 case. That case could hold up a lot of HDD or SSD.

I've JUST got Phantecks case and it lacks 5.25" bay, and I'm annoyed. Had to put my 8*SAS drives at the bottom which is irritating. it is supposed to be the SERVER case not the flippin GAMERS case.

I have a Phanteks Enthoo Pro tempered glass edition case and I am building a video editing pc. The case comes with 3 5.25" bays and I have put a DVD drive a card reader with a 5.25" to 2.5" adapter with a 3.5" to 5.25" HDD adapter in the front of the case. But it took me about 3 months to find a suitable case for a video editing build. Then I built my gaming pc with a blu-ray drive to watch blu-rays and I bought the same case. But that was about 5 years ago. Then all of a sudden case makers started removing optical drive bays from cases in favour of more fans which was totally unnecessary. My 2 cases has 200mm fans in the front of the case which is plenty and still 3 5.25" bays. Good video man.

The way I would use those 5.25" bays would be have a DVD drive in one of them. Have a card reader in another one and have 5.25" to 3.5" adapter for 24tb HDD. And the build would be a video editing build with Threadripper/ Quadro combo.
