When it comes to choosing one of the best streaming services for entertainment, there are plenty of great options out there, and among the best is Peacock. Peacock is NBCUniversal’s answer for what to watch next, and it houses thousands of hours of film and TV, with a mix of older favorites and new original programs. First released in 2020, it is aimed at competingwith Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Paramount Plus, and other streaming giants.

Peacock has made a splash since its launch, with 34 million subscribers as of 2024. Its easy to understand why, too, with competitive prices, a library with more than 80,000 hours of content, and access to tons of live sports events. There is plenty here to love, and even leaving the service is a breeze, should you so desire. However, before you decide whether to subscribe to Peacock, we’re here to help you evaluate if it’s the right choice for you.

How much is Peacock?

Peacock Premium is now the lowest tier, as the free option is no longer available. Even with Peacock Premium, you still have to watch ads. Still, for a nominal fee of $8 per month, you can access a vast library of content, including movies, TV shows, live sports (including Premier League soccer), Telemundo Spanish-language series, and more.

If you want to enjoy the same content without ads, you can opt for the second tier, Peacock Premium Plus, which costs $14 monthly. The difference between the two tiers is that with Peacock Premium Plus, ads are mostly eliminated, except for some events (such as sports) that may have ads due to preexisting agreements.

Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus are discounted if you pay yearly and are currently $80 and $140, respectively. There are also student offers.

Over the years, some cellular companies have offered special tie-ins with Peacock that tend to lower the per-year price. These change often, so check with your provider before subscribing to Peacock.

What do you need to watch Peacock?

Peacock can be accessed through various platforms. A web browser is a good starting point. Peacock is compatible with popular Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari browsers. It can also be accessed on Android and Apple iPhones and iPads. PlayStation and Xbox users can find Peacock on their consoles. Peacock works with select smart TVs, including Samsung, Vizio, LG, and Hisense.

Peacock is also available on Apple TV, Roku, Amazon, Google TV, and Chromecast. It can be accessed through select cable box sets from Cox, Spectrum, and Xfinity. Moreover, it’s available through Meta VR for the Meta Quest and Meta Quest Pro.

Which movies are included on Peacock?

One advantage of having the Universal Film Library at its disposal is that Peacock has a great movie selection and some classic titles right out of the gate. There’s also a selection of films from other studios. However, the titles of films available are always changing.

Among the most popular films on Peacock are Trolls Band Together, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight, Split, and this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Picture, Oppenheimer.

Which TV shows are on Peacock?

Peacock

Peacock excels when it comes to television. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Peacock has several of the best TV series ever. That includes 30 Rock, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Battlestar Galactica (2004), Cheers, Columbo, Everybody Hates Chris, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friday Night Lights, Knight Rider, Leave It to Beaver, Magnum PI, Miami Vice, Monk, Murder She Wrote, Parks and Recreation, Psych, The Munsters, and, The Rockford Files.

Current NBC series are also among the Peacock lineup, including Quantum Leap, Law and Order, Law and Order: Law and Order: SVU, Law & Order Organized Crime, Night Court, and the three Chicago-based shows Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. Paramount Network’s hit series Yellowstone also has a home on Peacock.

If you love late-night comedy, Peacock is also where you can find new and classic episodes of Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

What original series are on Peacock?

The Peacock streaming service is expanding its collection of original shows across genres such as comedy, drama, reality, and documentary. Some popular titles generating buzz are Apples Never Fall, Ted, The Traitors, Love Island USA, Vanderpump Rules, Poker Face, Dr. Death, The McBee Dynasty, Deal or No Deal Island, and many others.

What original films are available on Peacock?

The Peacock original movies library has expanded slightly with titles such as Megamind, Dr. Death, Joe vs. Carole, and Angelyne. It also includes full-length feature documentaries like Stormy, Pathological, John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams, and more.

What about sports?

Screenshot showing sports section on Peacock.
Peacock

It’s no surprise that Peacock programming strongly focuses on sports thanks to its partnership with NBC Sports and Telemundo Deportes. The platform offers a variety of live and streaming content throughout the year, including the Olympics, National Football League, soccer, college football and basketball, golf, cycling, boxing, and more. Some of this programming is exclusive to Peacock. The service also offers WWE content.

What are Peacock channels?

Peacock Channels is a unique feature of the Peacock streaming service. These channels offer live and on-demand content across three main categories: news, sports, and entertainment. To date, there are over 50 channels to choose from.

Does Peacock include 4K streaming?

Peacock provides a limited selection of 4K content to its Premium and Premium Plus subscribers. However, the 4K library is relatively small and can only be streamed on specific platforms. You can identify the available 4K content by looking for the 4K UHD badge in the Information section of the content.

What are Peacock’s optimum internet speeds?

According to Peacock, a minimum internet speed of 3 Mbps is sufficient to enjoy Peacock’s services without any interruptions. However, to enjoy high-quality live events and ultra-high definition premium content, it is recommended that your Wi-Fi or 4G/5G/LTE speed should be at least 8 Mbps.

You might not know your internet speed off the cuff, so you can test it here.

How do you get Peacock?

Peacock

To access Peacock, you can start by visiting its website. However, to subscribe to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus, you must provide your credit card details. Unfortunately, no free trial is available, but you can cancel your subscription anytime.

See the above “What do you need to watch Peacock?” section for all the platforms and devices on which the service is available. You can find the Peacock app in your respective channel store and download it to your device.

I switched to a folding phone – and I love it so much that I’m never going back

OnePlus Open camera bump up close

It wasn’t long ago that I was sitting in the TechRadar office, talking the ear off of one of my colleagues about how book-style foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold didn’t quite make sense to me.

I just couldn’t see the utility in a square, mid-sized display running a smartphone operating system – I had been an iPad user for almost a decade, and spending nearly half my life using large tablets had me convinced that nothing could best them for media consumption, reading, and light multitasking. News of the upcoming Huawei Mate XT – the world’s first tri-fold smartphone that expands to a 10-inch tablet – stoked this suspicion even further. But even as I saw my vision of the future unfold, my curiosity for conventional folding phones simmered.

Here were the five biggest headlines in this week’s AI news

Here were the five biggest headlines in this week's AI news

We officially transitioned into Spooky Season this week and, between OpenAI’s $6.6 million funding round, Nvidia’s surprise LLM, and some privacy-invading Meta Smart Glasses, we saw a scary number of developments in the AI space. Here are five of the biggest announcements.

OpenAI secures $6.6 billion in latest funding round

Sam Altman’s charmed existence continues apace with news this week that OpenAI has secured an additional $6.6 billion in investment as part of its most recent funding round. Existing investors like Microsoft and Khosla Ventures were joined by newcomers SoftBank and Nvidia. The AI company is now valued at a whopping $157 billion, making it one of the wealthiest private enterprises on Earth. And, should OpenAI’s proposed for-profit restructuring plan go through, that valuation would grant Altman more than $150 billion in equity, rocketing him onto the list of the top 10 richest people on the planet. Following the funding news, OpenAI rolled out Canvas, its take on Anthropic’s Artifacts collaborative feature

Nvidia just released an open-source LLM to rival GPT-4

Nvidia is making the leap from AI hardware to AI software with this week’s release of LVNM 1.0, a truly open-source large language model that excels at a variety of vision and language tasks. The company claims that the new model family, led by the 72 billion-parameter LVNM-D-72B, can rival GPT-4o. However, Nvidia is positioning LVNM not as a direct competitor to other frontier-class LLMs, but as a platform on which other developers can create their own chatbots and applications.

Google’s Gemini Live now speaks nearly four-dozen languages

Seems like being able to speak directly with your chatbot is the new must-have feature. Google announced this week that it is expanding Gemini Live to converse in nearly four dozen languages beyond English, starting with French, German, Portuguese, Hindi, and Spanish. Microsoft also revealed a similar feature for Copilot, dubbed Copilot Voice, that the company claims is “the most intuitive and natural way to brainstorm on the go.” They join ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode and Meta’s Natural Voice Interactions in allowing users to talk with their phones, not just to them.

California governor vetoes expansive AI safety bill

All the fighting over SB 1047, California’s Safe and Secure Innovation for Frontier Artificial Models Act, was for naught as Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed the AI safety bill this week. In a letter to lawmakers, he argued that the bill focused myopically on the largest of language models and that “smaller, specialized models may emerge as equally or even more dangerous than the models targeted by SB 1047.”

Hackers turn Meta smart glasses into automatic doxing machine

A pair of Harvard computer science students managed to modify a pair of commercially available Meta smart glasses so they can identify and look up any person that walks into their field of vision, 404 Media reported this week. The glasses, part of the I-XRAY experiment, were designed to capture images of strangers on the street, run those images through PimEyes image recognition software to identify the subject, then use that basic information to search for their personal information (i.e., their phone number and home address) on commercial data brokerage sites.

“To use it, you just put the glasses on, and then as you walk by people, the glasses will detect when somebody’s face is in frame,” the pair explained in a video demo posted to X. “After a few seconds, their personal information pops up on your phone.” The privacy implications for such a system are terrifying. The duo have no intention to publicly release the source code, but now that they’ve shown it can be done, there is little to prevent others from reverse engineering it.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 CPU specs leak just before launch

Published

AH Mediatek Logo (3)

Specifications of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 CPU have leaked online. This flagship chipset will compete with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC.

Dimensity 9400 CPU specs leak before the October 9 launch

MediaTek recently confirmed it will officially announce its flagship SoC (System on a Chip) on October 9. The capabilities of this chipset have been known due to multiple leaks and benchmark results.

Synthetic benchmarks have suggested the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC outperforms Apple’s A18 Pro in a GPU benchmark. However, the multi-core chipset’s CPU cluster and GPU specifications weren’t known.

Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) has posted the specifications of the Dimensity 9400 SoC on Chinese social media platform Weibo. DCS has mentioned the Dimensity 9400 will have one Cortex-X925 super-large core clocked at up to 3.626 GHz, three Cortex-X4 large cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores.

According to GSMArena, MediaTek would have opted for Cortex-A725 CPU cores. ARM recently announced its newest Cortex-A725 design. Hence, it is highly likely that MediaTek would embed a newer and more advanced CPU core.

It is a little concerning to note that MediaTek has reportedly clocked the X4 and A720/A725 CPU cores exactly as they were in the Dimensity 9300 launched last year. Specifically speaking, the Cortex X4 CPU cores are clocked at 2.85 GHz, while the A720/A725 CPU cores are clocked at 2.0 GHz.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC is packing an Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU clocked at 1,612 MHz. Needless to say, this GPU puts the flagship Dimensity chipset on par with some desktop-grade CPUs. This was evident from the chipset recently scoring 3 million points in AnTuTu benchmarks, making it the first mobile chipset to do so.

Will the latest flagship MediaTek chipset beat Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4?

For several years, MediaTek has been trailing Qualcomm. The Chinese company has been improving its products. However, so far the company hasn’t been able to beat Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will challenge the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. But Qualcomm’s upcoming SoC has reportedly been tested at a frequency of 4.47GHz in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. If raw numbers are the deciding criteria, this year’s Qualcomm’s flagship chipset would still reign supreme, especially if MediaTek is using last year’s tech.
