“Fantastic little gadget. It charges my iPhone 16 Pro Max quickly and simultaneously tops up a passenger’s phone via the extra USB port.”

Drivers have called a key gadget for their car a ‘game changer’ that helps to shorten the technological bridge between newer and older cars. While many cars made over the last few years now come with built in chargers and USB ports, allowing drivers to charge their phone or other devices while behind the wheel, much older cars simply don’t come with these features.

However, the LISEN Retractable Car Phone Charger, which is currently 44% off to £12.34, comes with two built-in cables, which should cater to a wide variety of both iOS and Android devices. This is because one cable is a USB C, which is compatible with all newer Android devices alongside a Lightning cable, which will fit any iPhone from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 14.

The LISEN Retractable Car Phone Charger is being offered in a grey colour at this price point, with different colours costing a higher amount. Becuase it connects through a car’s cigarette lighter, the LISEN Retractable Car Phone Charger is compatible with a wide variety of common cars, including the Mini Cooper, Nissan Washwai, Peugeot 308, Audi A, Ford Focus, Volswagen Polo and Golf, and more.

For those who drive a smaller car, the charger also comes with 180 defree adjustable plug that swivels left and right, helping to avoid gear sticks and cupholders that are often situated close to a cigarette lighter port. Currently, the device has garnered a 4.5 star rating on Amazon with 15,330 reviews.

Alternatively, you can get the Belkin 42W USB C and USB A car charger for £24.99 at Argos. This particular charger only comes with USB ports, which means you will need to buy a wire seperately or use one you already have.

Otherwise, you can get the the Powerz Car Charger for £6.49 at Debenhams. While this also fits in a cigarette lighter, it similarly doesn’t come equipped with cables and only fits two USB A ports.

Many shoppers praised the charger for its handiness and portability, with one reviewer stating: “Compact, Powerful, and Perfect for work as an HGV driver! Honestly one of the best car chargers I’ve ever used.

“The retractable cables are an absolute game-changer—no more tangled wires all over the place, and it keeps the car & Truck looking tidy. I can charge four devices at once, including my phone, sat nav, and even a power bank without any drop in speed. The 69W output is strong enough to fast-charge my phone in no time.

“Build quality feels solid, and it fits securely in the cigarette lighter socket—even on bumpy roads. The ability to manoeuvre it in different positions is a game changer!

“If you’re often driving, camping, or just want to declutter your car setup, this is a brilliant buy. Great value, smart design, and it just works. Would definitely recommend!”

Another added: “Fantastic little gadget. The retractable cable design keeps everything tidy—no more messy wires hanging around the gearstick. It charges my iPhone 16 Pro Max quickly and simultaneously tops up a passenger’s phone via the extra USB port. Fits snugly in my Ford Fiesta’s lighter socket, and the build quality feels premium with a nice metallic finish. Ideal as a small gift or for daily commuting.”

However, some shoppers did highlight some issues with the device, particularly with its size, with one reviewer noting: “Some times doesn’t charge when plugged in, only bought product a little while ago not been used many times. But when it does it very fast charge.” Another added: “Looks tidy but bulky and the problem is when you pull the cables there’s a tendency that you pull the whole thing unless you use both hands to stop it”

While a third said: “Love the look of it, but it’s been assembled so the brand name is on the bottom, otherwise the display characters will be upside down. Instead you have to have the underside face up. Not sure I’ll be able to cope!”
