R-Rated Sci-Fi Sequel So Awful, It Nearly Killed Legendary Franchise

By TeeJay Small
| Published

Like many film fans, I grew up watching the first two Alien movies. I fondly recall catching them on cable, HBO, and DVD over the years in various bits and pieces. Last year, my friend and I sat down with a mission to catch up on all the Alien movies, since we legitimately couldn’t recall whether we’d seen Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, or either of the prequel films. And while it was a lot of fun running through Alien and Aliens as an adult with a fully formed prefrontal cortex, I think the third movie genuinely caused me psychic damage.

Immediately Undermines Its Own Legacy

Alien 3 1992

Alien 3 picks up right where Aliens left off, with Sigourney Weaver‘s Ripley resting safely in a cryopod alongside Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn) of the Colonial Marines, and Newt (Danielle Edmond), a little girl that the duo rescued from planet LV-426. Through a series of extremely jarring and unpleasant editing choices, we see that an enormous alien egg was actually resting in the middle of the ship the entire time, as a facehugger emerges to cause chaos.

Let’s ignore the fact that the Xenomorph queen absolutely did not lay an egg inside the ship during the final moments of Aliens, and instead focus on the absolute smack in the face that is this opening scene. Cpl. Hicks and Newt are brutally killed in stasis, and the ship is knocked off course by a pair of the most competent facehuggers of all time. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a sequel so blatantly disrespect the end of the film that came before it, but saving Newt was kind of a big deal, so we’re kicking things off with one hell of a sour impression.

Alien 3 1992

As the lone survivor of the massacre, Ripley wakes up on a planet known as Fiorina “Fury” 161. This place is a maximum security correctional facility loaded with inmates who have committed heinous violent crimes including the assault of minors. Over the course of Alien 3, many of these characters are meant to be redeemed by helping Ripley to fight off the Xenomorph.

Here’s a note for any and all screenwriters in the future: there is absolutely no way you could ever make me root for any character within hours of revealing that they are violent and repeat offenders. I genuinely think everyone involved in making this movie needs to be placed on a watchlist of some sort.

Ripley Was Done Dirty

While exploring the prison, Ripley meets with the planet’s chief medical officer, played by an unusually awkward Charles Dance. The doctor, Clemens, repeatedly refuses to explain what horrible crimes he’s committed to end up on this planet, which gives the impression that it’s something worse than child abuse. Spoiler alert: He got hooked on prescription drugs while working as a surgeon and once accidentally killed a patient on the table. I’m not sure why that character flaw is seen as too horrific to admit, as Clemens so cavalierly explains that every single other man in the movie is a Jeffrey Epstein-level monster.

Alien 3 1992

Then, as if to drive home the point that these characters are genuine animals and not just misunderstood victims of an unjust legal system, a group of men corner Ripley and attempt to tear her clothes off. This scene is accompanied by a heavy metal score that sounds like it belongs in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, which makes the assault equal parts horrifying and unintentionally laugh-out-loud hilarious.

Luckily, one of the criminals steps in to reveal that he has a heart of gold, and rescues Ripley from the other attackers. Because after two movies of mowing down Xenomorphs with machine guns, escape pods, flamethrowers and mech suits, Alien 3 decides that Ripley is little more than a damsel in distress, desperately in need of a male handler to keep her alive.

The Dog Version And The Ox Version Do The Franchise No Favors

After narrowly avoiding a violent assault, Ripley decides for the very first time in the entire franchise that she’s super horny, and hooks up with Charles Dance, while he struggles to find anything of value to add to the movie. Failing to find something, he’s immediately killed by the Xenomorph, right after he finishes delivering a monologue about his pointless backstory.

Alien 3 1992

Speaking of the Xenomorph, this thing is a mess. Unlike the previous unstoppable killing machines highlighted in the first two films, this Xenomorph is a hybrid that sprang forth from the chest of a dog (or an ox, depending on which cut of the movie you’re watching.) As a result of its quadrupedal nature, the alien navigates on all fours, and only sometimes knows how to open doors.

While I admire the puppeteering and VFX that went into bringing this creature to life, it fails to come together in the final cut. The result is an alien that looks like she’s shaking her booty with each step, complete with a green hue surrounding her perimeter, because the reflection from the green screen wasn’t properly keyed out.

A Pitiful Redemption Arc Attempt

45 minutes into this boring, unlikable adventure, Alien 3 decides to do one interesting thing, and reveals that Ripley is pregnant with a Xenomorph queen. This makes her effectively immune to attacks from the Doggo-morph, and puts her on course to enact a suicide mission so that the queen she’s carrying can’t wreak havoc on the entire known galaxy. She rallies the remaining freak-off frequenters, who suddenly agree to let a woman be their leader, and maps out a plan to blow the entire prison facility to smithereens.

Alien 3 1992

At this point in the narrative, Alien 3 could almost serve as a so-bad-it’s-good movie, on par with classics like The Room or anything from Neil Breen‘s catalogue. Unfortunately, the final act is one of the sloppiest, most poorly-paced, obnoxiously shot, and outright boring things I’ve ever voluntarily watched. Ripley’s big plan involves sending prisoners to run up to the Xenomorph and tap it on the shoulder, then run away and slam doors in its face like they’re the Road Runner antagonizing Wile E. Coyote.

What follows is a seemingly endless sequence of identical bald British men running down identical hallways, apparently corralling the alien into an area of the facility that has not been choreographed to the audience in any meaningful way. I could recreate this entire scene by shaving my head and filming myself jogging through a single hallway in my apartment 65 times, but that would run the risk of being funny on purpose.

Alien 3 1992

I lost count of how many times I checked the timestamp during this chase sequence, only to lament that I must be experiencing some form of Interstellar-style time dilution. It was as though I crash-landed on Miller’s planet, and every agonizing second of screen time was taking years to view. Towards the end of this chase, Ripley prepares to sacrifice herself, only for Dillon, the man who rescued her earlier in the film, to sacrifice himself on her behalf.

Maybe this is supposed to be the final redeeming moment for Dillon, where he gives his life to save a woman, in contrast to the multiple women he abused. But that doesn’t make any sense because Ripley has already made it extremely clear that she needs to die anyway. She then kills herself like five minutes later, so all Dillon really managed to do was take a triumphant moment from a strong woman and make it about himself one last time.

Alien 3 1992

Alien 3 is handily the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life. I would sooner remove my wisdom teeth, have them reinstalled, and remove them again without anesthetic than watch this movie a second time. If I go to your house and this movie is playing in the background, I might burn the building to the ground on my way out the door. Some sci-fi fans view Alien 3 as an overhated and misunderstood masterpiece, and I’m happy they have something to enjoy here. Still, I just don’t see anything appealing about this exhausting film, and I’m glad that it’s not currently streaming on any major service.

If you’re still interested in watching Alien 3, it is is currently available for on-demand rentals and purchases through YouTube, Fandango at Home, Apple TV+, and Amazon Prime Video.

Prime Video’s Perfect 3-Part Fantasy Series Rewrites the Rules of the Genre

Published

on

Natasha O'Keeffe as Lanfear in The Wheel of Time Season 3.

As the fantasy genre becomes more prominent onscreen, fans have developed specific expectations. These shows often take place in detailed worlds that viewers learn about through brief asides, and constantly build to epic, unforgettable episodes with heavy action. However, Prime Video defied these expectations with The Wheel of Time‘s best episode, “The Road to the Spear.” Though the episode explores the show’s expansive world, it delivers a story focused on character rather than action. The groundbreaking installment explores Rand al’Thor’s (Josha Stradowski) journey into the Aiel city of Rhuidean and the shocking truths he learns there.

An episode of this scale would usually be a battle sequence, but The Wheel of Time does something utterly unique by expanding the scope of the fantasy world and exposing the history of the Aiel. As Rand travels back in time, the episode’s non-linear storytelling allows for thorough and engaging worldbuilding, but in all the information about Aiel society it provides, “The Road to the Spear” never loses sight of Rand’s character. Though it is only a single hour of a much larger series, this episode pushes the boundaries of what can be done in fantasy television.

‘The Wheel of Time’s “The Road to the Spear” Thoroughly Explores Its Fantasy World

The Aiel are just one cultural group in The Wheel of Time‘s fantasy universe, but in “The Road to the Spear,” the series traces their entire history through Rand’s lineage. Offering a deep dive into their culture, the story predominantly follows Rand as he goes back thousands of years and sees how the warlike people grew from pacifists by witnessing the most significant moments in their history, like making the oath that they broke, the choice to take up weapons, and the incident that nearly destroyed the world.

Ultimately, “The Road to the Spear” demonstrates a level of worldbuilding that few fantasy series have been able to achieve, leaving the audience with a clearer understanding of the Aiel’s origins than many of the characters. The Wheel of Time is far from the first show to have an elaborate world (for proof, just look at how many prequels Game of Thrones has been able to develop), but most rely on brief references via dialogue that the audience must pay attention to. In “The Road to the Spear,” The Wheel of Time allows Rand and the fans to discover the truth together, building out the show’s broader world in the process.

‘The Wheel of Time’ Combines Epic Scale and Individual Storytelling in “The Road to the Spear”

Many things stand out about “The Road to the Spear,” but among them is the rare combination of expansive scale and intimate storytelling. While Aviendha (Ayoola Smart), Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), and Rand travel into Rhuidean, Rand is the center of the episode, as he takes an important step in becoming recognized as the Car’a’carn, the leader who is prophesied to unite the Aiel to fight for his cause. Even as it leaps into the past, the episode follows Rand’s most emotional revelations as he learns his father’s identity and discovers the Aiel’s most painful secrets. These moments are aided by the fact that Josha Stradowski plays every one of Rand’s ancestors, showing his incredible range.

Not only does “The Road to the Spear” reveal Rand’s family history, but it tells a much larger story for his character by demonstrating how his role as the Dragon Reborn can shape entire societies. By tracing the Aiel back to before the Breaking of the World and showing how the actions of the previous Dragon, Lews Therin (Alexander Karim), changed their trajectory, the episode highlights the importance of Rand’s actions as he accepts his role in the battle against the Dark One. “The Road to the Spear” uses its epic, emotional flashbacks to depict an integral part of Rand’s journey, redefining the rules of fantasy worldbuilding and more than earning its status as the best episode The Wheel of Time has to offer.

After dating for several years, Eric proposed to Jasmin in November 2024 with a romantic setup filled with candles, roses, and flower petals. ‘Heated Rivalry’s Hudson Williams Just Joined an 8-Episode Mystery Thriller You’ll Obsess Over

Published

on

Adam Scott as Mark Scout in the elevator in Severance

Crave’s Heated Rivalry only just premiered at the end of last November, but already, the show is a worldwide sensation. Based on the book of the same name in Rachel Reid‘s Game Changers series, Heated Rivalry follows the longtime secret romance of two rival professional hockey players: Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie). Season 1 follows the events of Shane and Ilya’s first book, which shows them carrying on a secret fling for a decade while slowly starting to realize that it means much more than that to both of them. The entire Heated Rivalry cast has rightfully been getting a great deal of acclaim for their performances, and we are champing at the bit for the already-confirmed second season.

While fans wait for another season of Heated Rivalry, they can look forward to an upcoming series about Alexander the Great by Heated Rivalry creator Jacob Tierney, as well as a number of upcoming projects starring Heated Rivalry‘s actors. As reported by TV Insider, Hudson Williams has been cast to star in the upcoming Crave TV series, Yaga, alongside Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid, and Clark Backo. The series is an adaptation of the play written by Kat Sandler, who is serving as the series’ showrunner and will also be writing for the show. Yaga is a thriller with dark comedy elements, just like the play on which it’s based, and it will expand the play to eight half-hour episodes.

What Is Hudson Williams’ New Show ‘Yaga’ About?

Yaga is a comedic and suspenseful retelling of the story of Baba Yaga, a character from Slavic folklore. Baba Yaga is an old woman who is typically portrayed as an evil witch who eats children. In Yaga, though, Baba Yaga is a charming, fully-fledged morally gray antihero who knows how to get what she wants. The series starts when a detective named Rapp (Reid) goes to a small, isolated town while investigating the disappearance of Henry Park (Williams), the young heir to a wealthy fishing dynasty. While there, Rapp meets the rest of the townspeople, including the skeptical local sheriff (Backo) and an enchanting professor (Moss). It is during his time here that Rapp starts to piece together how the mysterious local myth of Baba Yaga could somehow be connected to his latest case.

Yaga takes a classic old tale and spins it into a modern mystery, framed through the eyes of a detective who’s an outsider to a town that is all too familiar with the story of Baba Yaga. The story is grounded in one detective’s search for answers, but the myth of Baba Yaga hangs over the whole story, as it slowly becomes clear how the myth can provide answers to what happened to Henry Park. Yaga will be Crave’s first half-hour drama series, and like the play, it will put Baba Yaga front and center as a bold, unapologetic antihero.

Hudson Williams Proved His Star Power in ‘Heated Rivalry’

Hudson Williams will be playing an important role in Yaga as Henry Park, the character whose disappearance kicks off the events of the series. After Heated Rivalry, it is no doubt that Williams is up to task for the role. Williams plays Shane Hollander with a great deal of nuance and care, as Shane struggles to come to terms with both his identity as a gay man, as well as the inherent risk of having romantic feelings for his professional rival. The specific details that make up the character of Henry Park in Yaga are a mystery, but he already seems to be a very different role from Shane. Henry is a young, pampered heir who goes missing early on in Yaga, so there will be suspense in his dangerous circumstances, and comedy in the nature of a privileged character being taken out of his usual environment.

The 35 Best Psychological Thriller TV Shows, Ranked

Prepare to be unsettled.

Shane Hollander is a complex character, and Williams plays him well, showing how Shane works very hard to keep his feelings in, often hiding them even from himself. Williams brought nuance to Shane’s character arc over the course of Heated Rivalry Season 1, showing how Shane was slowly able to figure out who he is, embrace his feelings for Ilya, and get to the place where he could have these difficult conversations about his feelings and his identity with his loved ones. Although Henry Park’s personality has not yet been revealed, he needs to be the sort of character that viewers will care about, because his disappearance kicks off the show. As such, Williams is the perfect casting for the role, and it will be exciting to see him in a suspenseful thriller after Heated Rivalry.

Darron Lee Allegedly Used ChatGPT For Advice On GF’s Murder

Darron Lee Former NFL Player AI Bot ChatGPT Cover Up Girlfriend Gabriella Perpetuo Murder

A former NFL player who is charged with his girlfriend’s murder asked an AI bot for advice, Tennessee authorities said in court. Allegedly, Darron Lee turned to ChatGPT for answers before he called 911. His conversations were presented in court this week as he stands trial in the death of Gabriella Perpetuo.

RELATED: Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, And Their 3 Kids Were At Home During Ivanna Lisette Ortiz’s Murder Attempt, Bail Set At $1.8M (UPDATES)

What Is Darron Lee Charged With?

Darron Lee faces charges of first-degree murder and of tampering with or fabricating evidence. He is being held in jail without bond. Also, Perpetuo’s family has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Lee.

Deputy public defender Mike Little represented Lee during the hearing. Little said “Something happened but we don’t know what happened.” The judge found probable cause to advance the case.

What Did Darron Allegedly Ask ChatGPT?

As reported by the Associated Press, Darron Lee’s conversations with ChatGPT about Gabriella Perpetuo began on Feb. 4. The following day, first responders went to a home in Ooltewah for a call of CPR in progress, but found Perpetuo already deceased. Prosecutors displayed the related messages during a court hearing on Monday.

The AI inquiries shown did not admit wrongdoing. However, in one instance, Darron Lee calls the injuries “self-inflicted.” But Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp said Lee was using ChatGPT as a “legal advisor,” asking it “to basically give him advice on how you cover up a crime scene.” Also, in one of the messages prosecutors displayed, Lee says:

“Dont know what to do right now, Fiancee did her crazy thing again and now she’s messed up, I wake up and she has two swollen eyes(I didnt do anything, self inflicted) she stabbed herself, slit her eye? Idk but she isn’t waking or responding, what do I do?”

Additionally, in another message, Darron Lee asked the bot what to tell a friend about handling someone non-responsive when the friend doesn’t want to call police. ChatGPT replied in part, “Here’s exactly what to tell your friend. This is the safest way to handle it without framing it as ‘police trouble.’” Lee also asked about the “physical signs of injury of slip and fall in bathroom/shower.”

What Detectives Discovered Versus What Darron Lee Told First Responders

Meanwhile, Darron Lee told deputies that the woman may have fallen in the shower. But, according to an arrest affidavit, there were extensive amounts of blood in different areas of the residence that were inconsistent with Lee’s statement. Also, crime scene detectives identified blood that had been attempted to be cleaned in multiple areas of the house. They found cleaning supplies near those areas, but no visible blood.

In body camera footage shown in court on Monday, Lee told investigators who responded to the house that he was “sleeping a long time” before he found his girlfriend unresponsive. He told investigators he saw her lying on the couch and asked if she wanted anything to eat. When Perpetuo didn’t respond, he said he called 911.

Gabriella Perpetuo Sustained Brutal Injuries

Also, authorities carrying out a search warrant found multiple kinds of trauma to Gabriella Perpetuo’s body. The affidavit listed injuries such as: a stab wound to her abdomen, an apparent human bite mark on her shoulder, a large bruise on her head, black eyes with heavy swelling, and dried blood on her face and neck.

At a prior hearing, a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office detective testified that Perpetuo had a severe brain injury and a broken neck. Meanwhile, District Attorney Coty Wamp has said Gabriella had more stab wounds on her legs while wearing pants without cut marks. This suggests the pants were put on afterward.

As for Darron Lee’s record, DA Wamp has said Lee was on probation in Florida for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in one county. He has probation in a battery case in another county, too. Also, he’s on probation in Ohio for attempted battery.

Jack Harlow Reveals Career Move That Made Him ‘Blacker’

Jack Harlow at Marty Supreme New York Premiere

Jack Harlow is giving an inside look into the process behind his new album, but not without some controversial takes.

The rapper revealed that he may have switched races in his mind to help him attain the right creative height to explore a new area for his sound and birth his latest project, “Monica.”

Jack Harlow released his fourth studio album on March 13th on his 28th birthday, four years after he broke the internet and charts with the release of his hit single “First Class.”

The 28-year-old admitted that he got blacker by exploring the R&B genre, years after he broke out as a rapper. He revealed this on the New York Times podcast when he was asked if he consciously made the decision to go deeper into “blackness” with his new project.

The rapper admitted that he did get blacker with his music, and he has always enjoyed the sound of “Black music.” The podcast hosts compared Harlow to some white artists who leave rap and pivot into traditionally white sounds.

Harlow explained that he is fully aware of the politics of today and understands why a lot of his colleagues who are white found a safer spot getting out of rap and going into a different direction. As reported by TMZ, the rapper stated that going in an entirely different direction with his work even made it more satisfying, and going R&B with “Monica” was very intentional.

Harlow brought his vision for “Monica” to life at the Electric Lady Studios in New York City, after he moved to the city from his Kentucky home. As stated by Billboard, Harlow’s new joint featured efforts from producers such as Aksel Arvid, Jermaine Paul, Clay Harlow, Angel “BabeTruth” Lopez, and Hollywood Cole.

More creatives like Robert Glasper, Ravyn Lenae, Omar Apollo, and rising hometown R&B artist James Savage also made their contributions to the project. Harlow’s latest album comes after his third studio album “Jackman’ peaked at No. 8 on Billboard 200 in 2023 and snatched the apex spot on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart.

Harlow’s 2020 hit track “What’s Poppin” landed at No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100 and became his first Diamond-certified record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2025. The rapper’s latest album homes nine tracks, and represents a massive shift from releasing one single last March.

The musician debuted as an actor in a sports-centered project, “White Men Can’t Jump,” in 2023. The Blast noted that Harlow touched on the complex side of becoming an actor after spending years as the soul behind the microphone in a studio.

“Through this film, I was able to gain my confidence as an actor, and to me, this sh-t is not a side quest. This isn’t a side mission I’m taking on to keep the entertainer thing going and make some extra money,” the rapper declared.

He revealed that he felt a deep passion for acting, the same as he did for music, and while he feels acting is a much more difficult terrain than music, he would not deny the freedom that came from it, which is very different from making music in the studio.

Harlow confessed that he felt a slight constraint to going all the way with hip-hop due to the tradition involved and his being a guest in the field. The rapper’s first stint at acting was during an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” in 2021.

Harlow sparked dating speculations with Lipa after he named a song after her on his 2022 album, and he did not shy away from admitting that he admired the pop star. As stated by The Blast, he declared on the track that he would be very interested in doing more than just a feature with Lipa if the opportunity surfaced.

Luck finally fell on Harlow when he met up with Lipa in November 2022 at the Variety Hitmakers Brunch in Los Angeles. The following month, they were spotted separately walking in and out of the same restaurant within minutes of each other.

According to an insider, Harlow had jetted out to New York City the day before to meet Lipa after her performance at the Z100 Jingle Ball. Another source added that Lipa also felt the same way about Harlow and might be on the page as him when it came to pursuing things romantically.

Four years ago, the rapper revealed he lost his virginity, not once but twice, and when he had sex at 18, he was reminded that he had no prior experience with sex. He first shared that he lost his virginity at 16, and his understanding of sex changed when he started seeing someone older.

He recalled the lady being about six years older than him, and it blew his mind as she taught him so much about sex, even though he was far from ignorant on the topic. The rapper saw their first act of intimacy as such a pivotal moment for him, and it was significant enough for him to see it as losing his virginity for the second time.

Harlow identified more perks in the relationship aside from the sex, which included the lady coming to support him during his indoor soccer games and driving the team home after the matches. The rapper admitted that he was beyond proud to admit to everyone that they had sex when she sat there watching him play.

Will Jack Harlow’s latest album do the magic on the charts?

William Shatner

Captain Kirk is unfortunately not invulnerable, no matter how much he seems like he is on-screen. William Shatner announced recently at the Saturn Awards that he was facing surgery on his shoulder. The surgery took place on March 11, 2026.

At 94, Shatner is still very active outdoors. The surgery was scheduled to fix his shoulder due to a serious injury he received after falling from a horse last year.

This wasn’t just a leisurely horseback stroll on a trail. Shatner said that the horse was trained for equine skills. This was an animal bred to compete, run fast, and slide to a halt. The horse that he owned drifted a little too far, and she was going so fast that he was thrown from his saddle, his shoulder breaking the fall.

Set Phasers To Recovery

William Shatner

A lifetime in Hollywood playing the captain of the most important and famous vessel in Starfleet prepared him for an active life on Earth. Age and gravity conspired against him in his attempt to roll to mitigate the impact of the fall. Alas, at 94 the body handles impacts less gracefully, and he seriously injured his shoulder. He described the whole situation and surgery by saying, “You put the ball in the socket and the socket in the thing, and you come out 10 hours later, and you’re pain-free.

This surgery was to correct an injury that happened in late 2025, and wouldn’t have taken place if Shatner had been too unhealthy to have it. He has since displayed his positive attitude and wry humor on social media, posting on X that “It was a routine procedure. I’m so well that tomorrow I’ll be in Cleveland at a convention.”

One Tough Captain

planet of the titans

Audiences may have bad flashbacks of when Christopher Reeve, who played Superman in 1978, was thrown from a horse in 1995 and subsequently paralyzed. He later died in 2004 from conditions related to sepsis, but not before becoming an advocate for the severely disabled. A true fighter, he continued his acting career despite his condition, including starring in a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, a film that is about a disabled man who witnesses a murder out his window, and an episode of Smallville.

It would have been devastating if William Shatner had experienced the same degree of injury, especially at his age. We could have lost a national treasure. Thankfully, signs point to the former Enterprise captain recovering from his surgery and giving us just a little more time to enjoy his company.

Guy Ritchie’s Hit Crime Saga Surges Again as Season 2 Looms

Guy Ritchie has developed his own unique niche in television. The British multihyphenate is known for witty, fast-paced dramas that keep viewers engaged from the moment they press play until credits roll. Ritchie usually focuses on action-heavy shows and movies, giving them his signature once he’s done. The writer-director has been courted by every streaming service, from Netflix to Prime Video and Paramount+. For the latter, he executive-produced the gritty crime thriller MobLand, which, despite lacking those Guy Ritchie qualities, still feels like one of his best works yet. MobLand enlists some of the best British acting talent to bring a truly deranged crime tale to life.

It’s been over six months since fans saw a new episode of MobLand, but that doesn’t mean that the show has escaped television’s consciousness. Data from FlixPatrol shows that the show is back on Paramount+’s streaming chart after several weeks of absence. This return coincides with the release of Ritchie’s latest project, Young Sherlock. The Prime Video drama has become a streaming sensation as fans of the iconic detective watch a younger Guy Ritichiefied version of the character. Young Sherlock is the number one TV show on Prime Video globally, which might have inspired first-time viewers to check out another one of Ritchie’s projects. The timing could not be more perfect because another season of MobLand is coming soon, and it’s bigger than the first.

What’s the Status of ‘MobLand’ Season 2?

Filming for MobLand Season 2 is ongoing. The series has expanded its scope beyond London, with some cast members spotted filming in Spain. However, London remains at the heart of the show as Harry Da Souza continues to fix everyone’s problems while hiding his own. The MobLand Season 1 finale flipped the character’s dynamics and alliances shifted, setting Season 2 on an even more explosive path. Series actor Emmett J. Scanlan explained Season 2’s scale in an interview with Hello Magazine, saying

“If you liked Season 1, penned incredibly by Jez Butterworth, then Season 2 is Season 1 on steroids! It is insane, it’s bananas. I loved Season 1, I loved reading it and getting lost in that world. I think Season 2 is even better. The scripts are fantastic.”

MobLand was created by Ronan Bennett, with Butterworth serving as director. Ritchie directed some episodes of Season 1. Pierce Brosnan (Conrad), Helen Mirren (Maeve), Mandeep Dhillon (Seraphina), Paddy Considine (Kevin), Daniel Beets (Brendan), and Anson Boon (Eddie) portray the unhinged Harrigan family that Harry works for. Other cast members include Joanne Froggatt as Jan, Harry’s wife, and Teddie Allen as Gina, Harry’s daughter.

All episodes of MobLand Season 1 are streaming on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
