Hollyoaks fans go wild as legends reunite on night out 10 years after last episode together

James Corden played a caretaker in the early days of the soap.

The former American TV host doesn’t have much positive to say about his time on the soap, claiming it was “hell on earth.”

Since his short-lived time on the show he has gone on to bigger things including smash hit comedy Gavin and Stacey.

Rachel Shenton joined the soap as aspiring glamour model Mitzeee Minniver in 2010.

Over two years her character was sent to prison, got pregnant and had a number of romantic affairs.

Since leaving Hollyoaks she has won an Oscar for best live action short film, The Silent Child.

Rachel has also starred in White Gold and All Creatures Great and Small

Emmett J. Scanlan played gangster turned anti-hero Brendan Brady.

Emmett played the love interest of Steve Hayes, with their romance delighting fans until it turned violent.

Since his departure Emmett has appeared in Peaky Blinders, The Fall, Gangs of London and even appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy

Emma Rigby joined Hollyoaks when she was 15 as Hannah Ahsworth.

Hannah’s eating disorder storyline was the first of it’s kind on TV while other plots included being caught in a fire, gangland drug dealing and running away.

Since leaving the soap in 2010 Emma has gone on to star in ABCs Once Upon a Time in Wonderland as the Red Queen. Other roles include guest appearances in Death In Paradise, Ripper Street and Fresh Meat

Nico Mirallegro got his big break with Hollyoaks starring as emo Barry ‘Newt’ Newton.

Nico’s main storyline in the soap was developing schizophrenia which culminated in a suicide pact.

He left the soap in 2010 and went on to star in My Mad Fat Diary, Our Girl, Rillington Place, The Ark and Common, Penance, as well as the Mike Leigh movie Peterloo and was nominated for a Bafta for his role in period drama The Village.

Ricky Whittle used Hollyoaks as a stepping stone to break America.

He played one of the soap’s resident hunks, Calvin Valentine, from 2006 to 2011 – when he was killed off at his wedding.

After leaving the soap Ricky cracked America starring in teen drama The 100 and America Gods.

He also appeared in Strictly Come Dancing in 2009.

Warren Brown joined Hollyoaks in 2005 for a year as evil Andy Holt.

His stint on the show consisted of date rape storylines and a crime spree, before eventually being killed off.

After leaving Hollyoaks, Warren became a big hitter in TV playing DS Justin Ripley in Luther, as well as major roles in a number of dramas including Liar, The Responder, Homefront and Good Cop.

Wallis Day played Holly Cunningham in the soap for years before leaving.

In 2021 Wallis won the role of Batwoman in DC’s series, taking over from Ruby Rose.

Joey’s Drake Ramoray in Friends was named after late Days Of Our Lives star Drake Hogestyn

Such was the legacy of Drake Hogestyn that he was thought to have inspired Matt LeBlanc’s Days Of Our Lives parody character in Friends.

Hogestyn, who played John Black in Daves Of Our Lives for nearly 40 years, died Saturday (September 28) following an “unbelievable fight” with pancreatic cancer.

It was long thought that Hogestyn’s first name was the inspiration for Joey Tribbiani’s (LeBlanc) Doctor Drake Ramoray in Friends.

One of the running jokes in Friends was struggling actor Joey’s recurring role in Days Of Our Lives, which saw his character go through a number of absurd plot lines in a mock version of the show before eventually being stabbed to death by a nurse.

The Independent has contacted representatives for Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane for confirmation.

While Hogestyn never commented publicly on the shared name, his castmate Alison Sweeney – who played Sami Brady in the soap – told CinemaBlend in February that she and her co-stars would “would watch every week that Joey was on Days of Our Lives.”

“It was such a fun ongoing story to watch on Friends, and it made us laugh. It just had such a sense of humor about what we do, and we just loved it,” said Sweeney.

Hogestyn’s death was announced in a statement shared by his family via the official Days Of Our Lives Instagram account. It said: “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn. He was thrown the curve ball of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination.

“After putting up an unbelievable fight, he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.

“He was the most amazing husband, father, papa and actor. He loved performing for the Days audience and sharing the stage with the greatest cast, crew and production team in the business.

“We love him and we will miss him all the Days Of Our Lives.”

In a subsequent Instagram tribute post, Sweeney hailed Hogestyn as an “incredible man.”

She captioned a photo of the pair hugging: “He was funny, generous and thoughtful. He cared about every single scene, every person.

“He loved Days, the fans, and shared that passion with everyone on set.

“My heart breaks for his family, they meant everything to him. He was such a huge part of my life at Days.

“I will miss him terribly and treasure every story, every joke & every hug.”

The fight between the duo was stopped after Chris claimed that his shoulder was dislocated.

After the incident, he was then rushed to see the show’s expert medical team.

Chris, 38, was then examined by seasoned expedition leader Dr Raj Joshi who asked him to tightly squeeze his fingers in the examination.

He then informed the star: “Okay. So your shoulder is unstable.

“This could pop at any time. So for that reason, I’m gonna have to medically withdraw you from the course.”

Dr Raj added: “It’s just one of those things, yeah, all right, yeah, okay. I’m gonna have a chat with the DS.”

The former athlete couldn’t help but reflect on his journey on the hit Channel 4 endurance show.

He stated: “As a sports person. You gradually come to terms with your body can’t do it.

“Your body’s not what is 10 years ago. When you do get to that stage where you do have to, unfortunately, move on from what you love doing, it’s really hard.”

Chris was the eleventh recruit into the notoriously tough process which sees a number of celebrity stars put in harsh environments around the world.

Their two-week long training course is designed to replicate the actual United Kingdom Special Forces selection course.

He was the fourth recruit to drop out of the process after Tez Ilyas was culled, Marnie Simpson and John Barrowman withdrew.
