It has been more open in the second half so far.

“Liverpool may have opened the game up a bit, thinking that being camped in their own third invited too much pressure.

Liverpool make it to half-time with an xG of 0.00, or no shots.

“They have had little threat.

“PSG have not had many clear-cut chances either but it should be a concern for Liverpool that, despite having five defenders, they have been caught on the counter-attack a few times already.”

NEW DELHI: Former Australia cricketer David Warner has landed in trouble after being charged with drink driving in Sydney. The 39-year-old, who now captains Sydney Thunder and Karachi Kings, was allegedly caught during a routine breath test with a blood alcohol level of 0.104, more than double the legal limit. He is due to appear in court on May 7, though reports say the case will not affect his participation in the Pakistan Super League.

Cricket NSW responds, future impact

Cricket New South Wales (NSW) has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and said it will support Warner while the legal process unfolds.“Cricket NSW is a strong advocate of safe driving, including avoiding drink-driving, and takes incidents of this nature very seriously,” chief executive Lee Germon said, as quoted by AFP.“David is aware of the seriousness of these allegations. We will support him through the upcoming process.”

What happened and what Warner said

According to police, the incident took place during a random check in Maroubra. Officers noticed a vehicle stopping short of the testing site before approaching the driver. A roadside test returned a positive result, and Warner was taken to the police station where a second test confirmed the reading.“About 5:30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra,” the police statement read. “A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing which returned a positive result.“He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104.“The man was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle-range PCA to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 7 May 2026.”Reports claim Warner told police he had consumed three glasses of wine before driving home. While Warner continues to play in the PSL, the case could affect his reputation and commercial ties if he is found guilty.

Angels’ Jorge Soler suspended 7 games, Braves’ Reynaldo Lopez 5 for brawl

Published

Los Angeles Angels outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler has been suspended seven games and fined an undisclosed amount and Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez agreed to a reduced five-game suspension and fine due to the fight that led to their ejections in the fifth inning of Tuesday night’s 7-2 Atlanta win in Anaheim, Calif.

Major League Baseball initially suspended Lopez for seven games, via its announcement on Wednesday, before the discipline was later reduced to five.

Soler’s suspension was scheduled to begin with Wednesday’s series finale but he appealed, meaning it will be paused until the appeal is resolved.

Soler, who hit a two-run homer in the first inning and was struck by a pitch on his left hand in the third, took exception to a high and inside fifth-inning fastball that glanced off the glove of catcher Jonah Heim and bounced to the backstop, enabling Nolan Schanuel, who had walked, to advance to second.

Soler stared at Lopez for several seconds before jogging to the mound. Both players then squared up and began throwing punches, none of which appeared to land squarely, as players from both teams rushed in. Lopez fended Soler off with his glove and threw punches with his right hand, which still held the baseball.

Braves manager Walt Weiss ended up tackling Soler on the first base line to help break up the fracas.

Lopez was nearing the end of his outing, at 80 pitches and 4 2/3 innings over which the right-hander struck out seven and allowed two unearned runs on three hits and two walks.

Soler was the 2021 World Series MVP for the Braves and is now on his third different team since that brief stint, plus a return to Atlanta in 2024.

Rangers ride 3-run inning to shutout win over Mariners

A three-run inning was all the Rangers needed to defeat the Mariners 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Arlington, Texas, giving Texas a three-game series sweep over slumping Seattle.

A bases-loaded throwing error by Mariners first baseman Connor Joe allowed two runs to score, and Texas added another in the bottom of the fifth against Seattle starter Bryan Woo (0-1).

The Rangers got five scoreless innings from starter MacKenzie Gore (2-0), who allowed one hit and struck out nine with two walks. Then, their bullpen finished off the Mariners with four scoreless innings: two for Chris Martin, one for Luis Curvelo and the ninth inning for Cole Winn, who earned his first career save.

The Mariners managed just three runs total in the series despite good pitching. Seattle lost its fifth straight game and seventh in its last eight.

Seattle has been shut out three times in that eight-game stretch and has not scored more than three runs in any of those games.

The Rangers have had a season of streaks thus far. After winning four straight, they lost four in a row and have now won three consecutive games.

In the decisive fifth inning, Texas got three straight singles from Danny Jansen, Josh Smith and Ezequiel Duran. Then, Brandon Nimmo hit a slow chopper to first base, which Joe fielded but threw high to home plate and over catcher Mitch Garver in an attempt to get a force out.

The error resulted in two runs, and Corey Seager added a sacrifice fly before the inning was over.

Seattle was held to just two hits in the game. But right fielder Rob Refsnyder robbed a home run from Smith in the bottom of the third inning, leaping at the wall to make a catch on the run just before reaching the foul pole.

Tyson Fury sparring partner says promoter trying to ‘ruin his career’ in social media rant

Published

on

Martin Bakole, who shared the ring with Tyson Fury ahead of his fights with Dillian Whyte and Francis Ngannou, has accused promoter Ben Shalom of ‘trying to ruin his career’

Martin Bakole has accused his promoter Ben Shalom of ‘trying to ruin his career’ in a startling statement posted on social media. The 32-year-old Congolese fighter, who served as a sparring partner for Tyson Fury before his bouts with Dillian Whyte and Francis Ngannou, insists he won’t hand Ben Shalom another penny.

Promoter Shalom became Britain’s youngest ever boxing promoter and established BOXXER at just 23 years old. Heavyweight Bakole features amongst the prominent names in Shalom’s stable, though hasn’t stepped into the ring since a draw with Efe Ajagba in May 2025.

That marked his second bout of the year following a defeat to Joseph Parker in a contest for the WBO interim heavyweight title in February.

Get MEN Premium now for just £1 HERE – or get involved in our United WhatsApp group by clicking HERE. You can also join our United Facebook page by clicking HERE and don’t miss out on our brilliant selection of newsletters HERE.

On X, Bakole stated: “For everybody asking what is happening with me. I am ready to fight anytime but one man is trying to ruin my career: Ben Shalom. I don’t understand why he is doing it.

“He has been earning money from me for years and years and has kept me tied up in a contract. My lawyer has confirmed that my contract with him is finished.

“I try to move on and he sends crazy emails to everyone blocking me from fighting and earning a living. He is trying to scare me saying he will sue everyone if I fight and don’t pay him.

“I fight to provide for my family, not for Ben Shalom. He is not my promoter. I am ready to fight but I will not pay that man another cent.”

However, Boxxer and Shalom were swift to respond, stating: “BOXXER would like to respond to recent comments made by Martin Bakole. Martin Bakole remains under contract with BOXXER.

“Throughout our promotional agreement, we have enjoyed a good relationship delivering major fights and securing career-high purses for him. We continue to work to secure the best possible opportunities for Martin, including a number of high-profile fights over the past 12 months, which he has either been unavailable for or declined.

“It is therefore disappointing to see these claims made publicly and as a result of third-party interference intended to cause damage. BOXXER remains fully committed to getting Martin back in the right when he is next available to compete at the highest level.”

Bakole, however, shared a screenshot of the statement on his own X account with a red cross drawn through it.

He subsequently appeared to draw a line under the dispute, writing: “I want to make one thing very clear: I have always respected every team I’ve worked with and I remain focused on my career, my future, and fighting at the highest level.

” My only priority has always been to stay active, take the biggest opportunities available, and give the fans the fights they want to see. I won’t go back and forth in public or get distracted by statements.

“My energy is on getting in the ring, proving myself, and becoming world champion. I appreciate everyone who supports me.

“The truth will always show itself through actions, not words. I’m ready for the next challenge. Let’s make the big fights happen.”

The model is also backing the Minnesota Timberwolves to cover as 6.5-point underdogs against the Orlando Magic when online sports betting on the NBA on Wednesday. Also, one of SportsLine’s top experts has locked in his pick on the Tigers vs. Twins in a 7:40 p.m. ET start for MLB best bets at DraftKings. Claim the latest DraftKings promo code, where new users get $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every NBA game 10,000 times and has returned well over $10,000 in betting profit for $100 players on its top-rated NBA picks over the past eight-plus seasons. The model entered Week 25 on a sizzling 47-20 roll on top-rated NBA spread picks dating back to last season. Anyone following its NBA betting advice at sportsbooks and on betting apps could have seen huge returns.

Wednesday best bets at DraftKings Sportsbook

  • Cavaliers (-120) to defeat the Hawks
  • Timberwolves (+6.5) vs. Magic (-108)
  • Tigers (-1.5) vs. Twins (+113)

Combining the three picks into a Wednesday parlay at DraftKings would result in a payout of +652 (risk $100 to win $652, odds subject to change). Claim $300 in bonus bets with a winning $5 wager at DraftKings here:

Cavaliers (-120) to defeat the Hawks

The Hawks aren’t the only NBA team playing strong basketball at the moment. Cleveland has won three straight games and five of its last six contests, entering Wednesday at 50-29, five games better than Atlanta’s 45-34 mark. The Cavaliers are 3-1 over their last four home games, and 25-14 in Cleveland overall this season as they prepare to host Atlanta. The Cavaliers defeated the Hawks, 117-109, in November in their first meeting in Cleveland, improving to 5-1 over their last six head-to-head matchups in Ohio. The model projects another Cleveland home win over Atlanta, with the Cavaliers winning in 68% of simulations. Back the Cavaliers to win at DraftKings here, and claim $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins as a new user:

Timberwolves (+6.5) vs. Magic (-108)

The Timberwolves are coming off a 124-104 win over the Pacers on Tuesday, without Anthony Edwards in the lineup. So if Edwards (knee) remains out, Minnesota is still capable of keeping pace with the Magic. The Timberwolves (47-32) hold a four-game advantage over the Magic (43-36) this season, and Minnesota has the No. 7 scoring offense (117.6 points per game) in the NBA this season. The Magic are 12-17 against the spread as a home favorite this season, and the model projects the Timberwolves to keep pace with Orlando on Wednesday, with Minnesota covering in 67% of simulations. Back the Timberwolves to cover at DraftKings here, and claim $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins as a new user:

Tigers (-1.5) vs. Twins (+113)

“It’s been a brutal stretch for Detroit, even losing Tarik Skubal’s start last night. They have won all four games by double digits, though, and need a win badly here,” SportsLine expert Angelo Magliocca said. “Framber Valdez has pitched great in his first two starts, and Bailey Ober for the Twins has allowed six runs in eight innings across two starts. I don’t love how the Tigers’ offense has looked, but they are familiar with Ober and did score a couple runs once Taj Bradley was done stifling them last night. Minnesota had to unload the bullpen over the last couple games while Detroit has its top relievers well rested, gaining an advantage in later innings.” Back the Tigers at DraftKings here, and claim $300 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins as a new user:

Want more NBA and MLB picks on Wednesday?

You’ve seen some of the model’s Wednesday best bets. Now, get against the spread, total and money-line picks for all games, including the NBA, MLB, NHL, and more, all from the model that’s simulated every game 10,000 times.

‘I thought we could win’: Gill on Miller refusing the penultimate single | Cricket News

'I thought we could win': Gill on Miller refusing the penultimate single
New Delhi: Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill (PTI Photo/Salman Ali)

Gujarat Titans clinched a dramatic one-run victory over Delhi Capitals in a match that went down to the final delivery, thanks to a nerve-jangling last over and a crucial moment of hesitation from David Miller. Chasing 211, Delhi Capitals fell agonizingly short at 209 for eight after Miller refused a single off Prasidh Krishna’s penultimate delivery, a move that ultimately handed the game to GT. The experienced Jos Buttler, who had taken off one glove, sent down a perfect direct hit, catching Kuldeep Yadav short of the crease. Shubman Gill, who had anchored Gujarat’s innings with a 70-ball half-century alongside Jos Buttler’s explosive 52 and Washington Sundar’s 55 off 32, felt the match hung in the balance right until the last ball. “Definitely, all the three games that we’ve played, have gone until the last over. But very pleased to get over the line in this one,” Gill said, reflecting on the tension-filled finish. On Miller’s refusal of the single, Gill admitted it swung momentum in GT’s favour. “When Miller didn’t take the run off the fifth ball, we have a chance to win,” he said. Discussing the choice of the final delivery, Gill praised Prasidh Krishna’s slower ball selection: “No, we were just discussing whether to go for the yorker or to go for the slower one. But given how the wicket is playing, a good slower one would be difficult to hit for a boundary.” Gill also highlighted the importance of fielding and the total posted. “Apart from the overthrows and boundary, every effort counts, especially in a game like this where you win by one run,” he said. “210 on this wicket was 10-15 runs above par. Even in the death overs, hitting the big boundaries wasn’t easy. We thought if we bowl well, we should be able to win this one.” For Gill, the victory was a mix of relief and satisfaction. “Yes, definitely. Now I just need to sleep and see how I wake up tomorrow,” he added. Gujarat Titans’ composure under pressure and Gill’s calm leadership proved decisive in a thriller that will be remembered for Miller’s dramatic miss and the Titans’ nerve to hold on.

Delhi looked in control towards the end, especially with Miller hitting big shots and bringing the equation down quickly. However, the game changed in the final over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. Miller declined a single on the second-last ball, keeping strike but putting pressure on himself. On the final delivery, with two runs needed, he missed a slower ball and attempted a run, but Jos Buttler ran him out at the striker’s end, leaving Kuldeep Yadav short. Delhi finished agonisingly short, handing Gujarat a thrilling one-run win.

How the match unfolded

Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted a strong total of 210/4, thanks to key contributions from Jos Buttler (52), Shubman Gill (70) and Washington Sundar (55). Buttler’s aggressive start, including multiple sixes, set the tone, while Gill and Sundar kept the momentum going. In response, Delhi Capitals got off to a solid start with KL Rahul (92) and Pathum Nissanka (41) building a strong opening partnership. However, Rashid Khan’s three wickets in the middle overs shifted the momentum.Despite Miller’s late heroics, including a big penultimate over, Delhi couldn’t cross the line. The result marked Gujarat’s first win of the season, while Delhi suffered their first defeat after a promising start.

Atletico Madrid stun 10-man Barcelona to take control of Champions League tie

Published

on

Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth struck as Atletico Madrid stunned 10-man Barcelona to win the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final 2-0.

Alvarez curled home a stunning free-kick after the dismissal of Pau Cubarsi and Sorloth tightened Atletico’s grip on the tie with a second 20 minutes from time at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.

Barca, who beat the same opponents in LaLiga on Saturday, were left to rue a series of missed chances both before and after Cubarsi’s red card for hauling down Giuliano Simeone.

Marcus Rashford went close on several occasions, but was unable to find a way past Atletico goalkeeper Juan Musso.

In the Europa League, Cucho Hernandez’s second-half penalty earned Real Betis a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final at Braga.

Florian Grillitsch had got the hosts off to a fast start with a clever finish after five minutes, but Betis responded well and hit the post through Marc Bartra while Lukas Hornicek denied Hernandez.

The Spanish side levelled just after the hour when Hernandez converted from the spot after Abde Ezzalzouli was fouled.
