Burnett’s role will include developing diplomatic relations, as well as enhancing areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment opportunities and cultural exchanges.

“Mark is known for creating and producing some of the biggest shows in television history,” Trump added in his statement.

After he mentioned several of his shows, he added “most notably, The Apprentice”, and pointed out that Burnett “has won 13 Emmy Awards!”

Originally, Trump appointed businessman Warren Stephens to be the US ambassador to Great Britain.

LATEST NEWS:

Special envoys are usually appointed by presidents for areas such as the Middle East, rather than the UK, which has had a long-lasting “special relationship” with America and is one of DC’s fiercest allies.

Donald Trump has already appointed Steven Witkoff to take on the role as special envoy to the Middle East.

In the past, Burnett, alongside his wife, removed themselves from Trump’s 2016 campaign, condemning the “hatred, division and misogyny that has been a very unfortunate part of his campaign”.

The Apprentice presented Trump Tower in New York before the President-elect launched his initial campaign in the lobby.

Last week, Keir Starmer assigned Peter Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador to America, as the former Cabinet minister said that “it is a great honour to serve the country in this way”.

However, Mandelson has not escaped a deep dive into his past remarks, with investigators finding that he once described Trump as “little short of a white nationalist and racist”.

This news has followed a period in which MPs have questioned Starmer’s judgment over his latest appointment, due to Mandelson’s links with Jeffrey Epstein.

Senior adviser to Trump’s latest campaign Chris LaCivita has referred to Mandelson as an “absolute moron”.
