Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua appear set to collide later this year in what could be one of the biggest British boxing events of all time.

Another British legend, Naseem Hamed has offered a surprising take on how the fight could unfold.

Fury made his ring return in a decision win over Arslanbek Makhmudov earlier this month, shaking off the ring rust at the age of 37 years old and supposedly teeing up a showdown with Joshua, which ‘The Gypsy King’ wanted to take place this summer.

However, ‘AJ’ has instead maintained that he would like a warm-up fight first, and the Londoner is poised to return to action in July, before a long-awaited meeting with his perennial rival in November.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Hamed looked ahead to that encounter and suggested that a draw may be on the cards.

“Who do I think is going to win the fight between AJ and Fury? Well, that is the question, and everybody wants to know that.

“Years and years ago, Tyson for me had this awkward style where he could make AJ look silly, that’s the truth. Things have changed now. Tyson has seemed to drop back a little bit.

“But you never know with Tyson Fury, maybe one night he can turn up and box amazingly and do what he did to Wilder. Those first few rounds [against Makhmudov], I was a little bit disappointed that he didn’t go from the get-go.

“This is going to sound mad to you, but would it be unbelievable if I were to say that it could be a draw?”

It is unclear whether Fury will also fight in the summer, or avoid risking his lucrative affair with Joshua by waiting patiently on the sidelines.

Shakur Stevenson has been presented with an enticing opportunity, but only at 140lbs, as he considers possible opponents for his next outing.

The 28-year-old is seemingly yet to finalise a fight date after dethroning Teofimo Lopez, the then-WBO super-lightweight champion, with a wide points victory in January.

Having become a four-weight world champion, Stevenson is now searching for challenges between 140 and 135lbs, where he previously held the WBC title.

One name that has repeatedly been mentioned is Raymond Muratalla, who holds the IBF and Ring Magazine lightweight belts after outpointing Andy Cruz in January.

From Stevenson’s perspective, the opportunity to become a three-division Ring Magazine champion is what makes the potential Muratalla fight particularly appealing.

At the same time, though, a unification showdown with Dalton Smith at 140lbs is surely something that merits consideration for later this year.

Like Stevenson, the WBC champion claimed his world super-lightweight title in January, dethroning Subriel Matias with a fifth-round finish on away soil.

For his next assignment, Smith must face mandatory challenger Alberto Puello on June 6, headlining a Matchroom Boxing card at the Sheffield Arena.

Should he successfully defend his title, then the 29-year-old would be eager to face Stevenson in a transatlantic battle that he likens to Floyd Mayweather vs Ricky Hatton.

Speaking with Ring Magazine, Smith said this ‘dream’ fight would ideally take place at Hillsborough Stadium – home of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club – or even in Las Vegas.

“Of course [it’s a dream fight]. That’s just a rewind of [Mayweather-Hatton], whether we do it at Hillsborough or a big night in Vegas.

“They’re the fights to be made – they’re the big fights out there.”

Earlier in the interview, the Brit said he feels a duty to continue thriving to ‘do this for the people and bring big fight nights back to Sheffield.’

If Stevenson keeps hold of his WBO title, then he could theoretically face Smith later this year, but is perhaps more likely to target alternative options between now and then.

Sanju Samson’s stunning form in white-ball cricket has once again sparked a major selection debate in Indian cricket. After impressive performances during the T20 World Cup earlier this year, the stylish wicketkeeper-batter has carried that momentum into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, forcing fans and experts alike to ask one big question – should he now replace Rishabh Pant in India’s ODI setup? While Pant continues to search for rhythm, Samson has been in blistering touch. Pant has managed 147 runs in seven matches this season, averaging 24.50 with a strike rate of 132.43. His best score remains 68 against Hyderabad, but overall consistency has been missing.

Samson, meanwhile, has looked unstoppable. In seven matches, he has smashed 293 runs at an average of 58.60 and a strike rate of 178.65. Most notably, he has already struck two centuries for Chennai this season, underlining his ability to dominate attacks and play match-winning knocks.

The contrast in numbers has only added fuel to the growing conversation around India’s wicketkeeper choice ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.

The Kerala batter’s ODI record is equally impressive. In 16 matches, Samson has scored 510 runs at a superb average of 56.66, including one century and three fifties. His numbers in South Africa are even more eye-catching – 120 runs in just two innings – an important factor considering the 2027 World Cup will be played there.

Pant, on the other hand, has featured in 31 ODIs and scored 871 runs at an average of 33.50, with one century and five half-centuries. In South Africa, he has made 101 runs in three ODIs.

With conditions in South Africa likely to test technique and temperament, many fans believe Samson deserves an extended run.

Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with opinions since Samson’s latest IPL heroics. One fan wrote, “How long can you ignore these numbers? Samson deserves a proper ODI run now.”

Another said, “Pant is a match-winner, but maybe it’s time to let him focus on Tests and bring Samson into ODIs.”

A third supporter posted, “Give Samson consistency.”

Pant, however, still has his loyal supporters. “People forget what Pant can do under pressure. Class is permanent,” wrote one fan. Another added, “One rough IPL patch shouldn’t decide international careers.”

India’s selectors now face a catch-22 situation. Pant remains one of the most explosive wicketkeeper-batters in world cricket and has delivered in high-pressure moments before. But Samson’s current form, stronger ODI average, and success in South African conditions make his case impossible to ignore.

With the road to the 2027 World Cup already underway, every ODI opportunity will matter. And right now, Sanju Samson is doing everything possible to ensure his name stays firmly in the conversation.

Those teams are usually grouped together in one’s fandom, and all the emotions were caught on camera Thursday night during a New York radio station’s NFL Draft watch party.

WFAN hosts gathered around cameras and televisions to watch the draft, and as the Jets were set to make the 16th overall selection, the Knicks allowed Atlanta Hawks guard CJ McCollum to hit a game-winning jumper with 12.5 seconds to go, prompting a mini celebrating by Brooklyn Nets fans.

Quite literally seconds later, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the Jets had selected Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq.

A baseball game in April is normally on the backburner during the NBA playoffs and NFL Draft, but right after the pick was announced, a host noticed that the Mets just allowed an eighth-inning, two-out, game-tying grand slam just a day after snapping a 12-game losing streak.

“Oh my God, the Mets just blew the lead,” said midday host Evan Roberts.

The Mets wound up scoring three in the bottom half of the inning thanks to Bo Bichette’s bases-clearing double, although Devin Williams did make it sweaty in the ninth by stranding the tying run on second.

Bruno Fernandes could have left Manchester United last summer amid interest from Saudi Arabia but the club captain opted to stay

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed his wife convinced him to stay at Old Trafford last summer. The Manchester Evening News understands that Fernandes seriously considered a move to Al-Hilal.

His agent, Miguel Pinho, was in talks with the Middle Eastern club over a possible £100million transfer, and the Reds did not rule out his sale. But the Portugal international opted against a move after discussions with his family.

Fernandes has gone on to enjoy the best season of his career at United. The 31-year-old has recorded 18 assists in the Premier League so far in 2025/26 and is just two away from matching the all-time record in a single campaign set by Kevin de Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

Now, the midfielder has opened up to the Wayne Rooney Show on BBC Sport about how a simple message from his wife made him decide to stay at M16 last summer.

He said: I stayed because I thought I still had something that I can give back to the club,” said Fernandes.

“Obviously the Saudi situation, with the money… there was a lot. The good thing I have in my family is that my wife is pretty down to earth like me.

“We’re very aware that we don’t want to be the richest person in the world. We just want to be the ones that have achieved the dreams they had and live a good life with their kids and trying to be as successful as possible.

“The words of my wife were like, ‘have you achieved your dreams? Have you achieved everything you wanted?’

“And that small thing she said made me understand that she’s on the same page as me. Let’s keep trying and see where this takes me.”

Several human rights groups have warned fans, players, journalists and visitors planning to attend this summer’s World Cup in the United States to be careful when travelling.

More than 120 organisations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, issued a travel advisory. They said the warning is because of what they described as a strict and harsh immigration crackdown by the administration of Donald Trump.

In their statement, the groups said the situation in the country could be risky, especially for minority groups, who they believe may face serious problems. They also criticised Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, over his close relationship with Trump.

The organisations called on FIFA to put pressure on US authorities to respect the rights of everyone travelling for the tournament.

US officials have not yet responded to the warning. However, FIFA said it is committed to respecting human rights and will continue to support their protection during the competition.

The rights groups also warned about possible issues such as denial of entry, arrests, travel restrictions, social media checks, racial profiling and increased surveillance. They noted that there are travel bans affecting citizens from some countries taking part in the tournament, including Iran, Haiti, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

They advised travellers to take safety steps such as removing sensitive information from their phones and keeping family and friends informed about their movements.

The United States will host most of the matches in the tournament, which it is organising together with Canada and Mexico.

The groups also accused FIFA of not giving clear safety guarantees for visitors, while pointing again to Infantino’s relationship with Trump. In December, Infantino presented Trump with FIFA’s first Peace Prize.

Immigration control has been a major focus of the Trump administration, with agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement expanding their operations. The agency has faced criticism over its actions, especially after reports of deadly incidents during protests.

US authorities have said immigration officers will be part of World Cup security. Meanwhile, fan group Football Supporters Europe raised concerns about increased police presence in the country.

Last month, Amnesty International warned that the World Cup could become a platform for repression.

In response, the White House World Cup Task Force said the tournament would be safe and welcoming. It added that fans should expect a smooth and secure event, promising a memorable competition for everyone.

Former Nigeria international forward Michael Eneramo collapsed and died on the pitch in Ungwan Yelwa, Kaduna on Friday morning, during a local friendly game in which he had played the entire first half.

Early reports indicated that Eneramo appeared to have suffered cardiac arrest five minutes into the second half of the said friendly match. He was born on 26th November, 1985 in Kaduna.

“This is devastating. I am short of words at this moment. I can only pray that God will grant him eternal rest and also grant his loved ones and the Nigeria football family the fortitude to bear the loss,” NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, said on the telephone from Cairo, Egypt.

Highly-respected in Tunisia and Turkey where he had fantastic club careers, Eneramo won 10 caps for the Super Eagles after rejecting overtures from Tunisia to take that country’s nationality and opt for an international odyssey with the Carthage Eagles.

His debut for Nigeria was against Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz in a friendly match in London on 11th February 2009, which ended goalless. In his second game, also a friendly, he scored his first goal for Nigeria against the Republic of Ireland in a 1-1 draw in London on 29th May 2009. He also played against France in Nigeria’s 1-0 win in Saint Etienne four days later.

Five days later, he featured in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Kenya in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Abuja, and also played the home-and-away ties with Tunisia (0-0 in Tunis and 2-2 in Abuja) in the same race. It was in the home game against Tunisia in Abuja on 6th September 2009 that he scored his most memorable goal for the Super Eagles.

Nicknamed Al Dababa (The Tank) by fans of Tunisian and African giants Esperance Sportive de Tunis, Eneramo was much-loved in the North African country for his confident play, which earned Esperance a number of silverwares. He also featured for top clubs Besiktas, Sivasspor and Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey.
