Rights Groups Warn Fans to Be Careful Travelling to USA for World Cup

Published

on

Several human rights groups have warned fans, players, journalists and visitors planning to attend this summer’s World Cup in the United States to be careful when travelling.

More than 120 organisations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, issued a travel advisory. They said the warning is because of what they described as a strict and harsh immigration crackdown by the administration of Donald Trump.

In their statement, the groups said the situation in the country could be risky, especially for minority groups, who they believe may face serious problems. They also criticised Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, over his close relationship with Trump.

The organisations called on FIFA to put pressure on US authorities to respect the rights of everyone travelling for the tournament.

US officials have not yet responded to the warning. However, FIFA said it is committed to respecting human rights and will continue to support their protection during the competition.

The rights groups also warned about possible issues such as denial of entry, arrests, travel restrictions, social media checks, racial profiling and increased surveillance. They noted that there are travel bans affecting citizens from some countries taking part in the tournament, including Iran, Haiti, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

They advised travellers to take safety steps such as removing sensitive information from their phones and keeping family and friends informed about their movements.

The United States will host most of the matches in the tournament, which it is organising together with Canada and Mexico.

The groups also accused FIFA of not giving clear safety guarantees for visitors, while pointing again to Infantino’s relationship with Trump. In December, Infantino presented Trump with FIFA’s first Peace Prize.

Immigration control has been a major focus of the Trump administration, with agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement expanding their operations. The agency has faced criticism over its actions, especially after reports of deadly incidents during protests.

US authorities have said immigration officers will be part of World Cup security. Meanwhile, fan group Football Supporters Europe raised concerns about increased police presence in the country.

Last month, Amnesty International warned that the World Cup could become a platform for repression.

In response, the White House World Cup Task Force said the tournament would be safe and welcoming. It added that fans should expect a smooth and secure event, promising a memorable competition for everyone.

Blue Jays’ Atkins provides updates on Hoffman, injured players

Published

on

General manager Ross Atkins spoke to the media on Friday and provided updates on multiple Blue Jays.

According to Atkins, relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman, who’s struggled of late, will no longer be the primary option to close games.

“We’re going to share (the closer role) across more than one arm in the short term, and we may get back to a situation where there is someone named our closer, but in the short term, that responsibility will be shared,” Atkins said.

“He will still be getting important outs, and he could be in the ninth for us, but for the most part, we are going to focus on sharing that responsibility.”

Manager John Schneider shared the same closer-by-committee update when speaking to Sportsnet’s Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker on Blair and Barker, Friday.

“Right now, I think Louis (Varland) has gotten himself into some really high-leverage spots,” Schneider said. “It could be Louis, it could be (Mason Fluharty) turning them around right-handed. It could be (Tyler Rogers) to try and get a ground ball. It could be anybody, really.

“Louis’ definitely done his part to have all the trust in the world from me.”

Atkins also gave an update on starting pitcher Trey Yesavage, saying the team is encouraged by his progress and health, but no decision has been made on where and when his next outing will be. It is a possibility that it comes in the majors.

Fellow starting arm Jose Berrios is also making strides toward a return, Atkins shared.

“He’s throwing a bullpen today and then will be in Buffalo to pitch there, which is encouraging. His stuff’s been really good.”

According to Atkins, outfielder George Springer is “already doing baseball activity, and he’s feeling much better, so he’s hitting, he’s running and we’re encouraged by where he is. It’s more of a day-to-day decision but obviously not active today.”

The 36-year-old was placed on the 10-day IL with a foot injury and hasn’t played since April 11.

Meanwhile, Addison Barger is in a similar situation. He’s hitting and running, but just hasn’t seen live hitters, which is next for him.

Starting pitcher Shane Bieber is also gearing up and “not far off from where he’ll be facing hitters.” Atkins says he considers now to be the start of Bieber’s Spring Training.

One hundred not enough: Sai Sudharsan watches Virat Kohli take over Chinnaswamy as RCB beat GT by five wickets

Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson will miss Saturday’s potential playoff elimination game against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes due to a concussion.

Senators coach Travis Green confirmed Sanderson’s status Friday, telling reporters that he is “not doing well.” The Hurricanes have a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference first-round series.

Sanderson sustained the injury in the second period of Thursday’s 2-1 loss on a high hit by Carolina forward Taylor Hall. Hall received a two-minute penalty for the blow that dislodged Sanderson’s helmet.

Sanderson played two more shifts before exiting the game.

“I just don’t understand how there’s not a five-minute major called on the hit to the head,” Green said after the game. “It’s a blatant hit to the head, the kind of hits you don’t want to see.

Sanderson, 23, has two assists in three games in the series. He recorded 54 points (14 goals, 40 assists) and a career-best plus-16 rating in 67 games during the regular season.

He has spent four seasons with the Senators, who selected him with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Recent Seth Rollins fight proved to be a work

Published

on

WWE star Seth Rollins had a rather charged segment outside of the company recently, where he walked out of an interview in a huff. However, it is now clear that the whole thing was a work.

The Visionary has been a somewhat regular part of the GFMB show in NFL as of late. Things took an unexpected turn when Seth Rollins appeared on Good Morning Football just hours before the 2026 NFL Draft, joining Kyle Brandt. The conversation started off centered around Aaron Rodgers, but it didn’t stay on track for long.

Brandt and Rollins got into an argument after the former made a remark about Rodgers continuing to win games at 42 without outcomes being predetermined. This was quite clearly a jab at WWE, which Rollins took as an insult. The segment esclatated to a quarrel between the two, ultimately ending with Rollins walking out.

However, the entire thing was seemingly a work. In a recent Instagram post, Kyle Brandt was seen being quite calm with Rollins, who was also smiling.

You can check out the post below:

Paul Heyman has claimed responsibility for Seth Rollins’ loss at WWE WrestleMania 42

Rollins was not able to emerge victorious at WrestleMania 42 in his match against Gunther.

While the bout seemed like it could go either way, an interference by Bron Breakker completely changed the scenario. Breakker had been out with an injury since Royal Rumble this year, due to an attack orchestrated by Rollins. At WrestleMania 42, Breakker paid back the debt by ensuring the Gunther emerged victorious.

Later on Paul Heyman claimed to be the man behind the plan to attack Rollins. Speaking on the post show segment of WrestleMania, Heyman stated:

“What I can tell you about the events of tonight, I’m sure this is not an exposé, because what happened to Seth Rollins was all predetermined by me. I set his a** up from the very beginning, and I’m damn glad I did it, and if I burn in hell for my actions, there are not enough consequences for what I plan to do to Seth Rollins moving forward in the future,” said Heyman.

What Rollins plans to do next, is something only time will tell.
