Jason Statham’s Star-Studded Action Sequel Just Got the Update We’ve Been Waiting For

Jason Statham’s highly anticipated action movie has been in production for a few months now, but the film just got one step closer to our screens with a new update. Statham kicked off 2024 with The Beekeeper, the critically acclaimed revenge thriller that also found success at the box office. After The Beekeeper also dominated streaming for the better part of 2024, Amazon greenlit a sequel to the film, which began production a few months ago. The Beekeeper 2 director Timo Tjahjanto, who takes over duties from David Ayer, took to his personal Instagram over the weekend to confirm that Statham’s action sequel has wrapped filming with a new photo of him and Statham’s co-star, MCU veteran Pom Klementieff.

David Ayer’s departure from The Beekeeper 2 isn’t due to creative differences or anything sinister. He told Collider much earlier in the year that it was due to his other commitments to film Heart of the Beast, another action-adventure film starring Brad Pitt and J.K. Simmons. Both actioners were scheduled to shoot at the same time, and Ayer had already given his word to other duties. Still, director Timo Tjahjanto proved himself a force in the action genre with his work in Bob Odenkirk’s new action sequel, Nobody 2, so The Beekeeper sequel is certainly in good hands.

Things got complicated for The Beekeeper just last month when Amazon pulled the film from streaming without warning. This came as a major shock, especially considering it had called Prime Video its home for well over a year and the studio was working on a sequel. Whatever the cause was for The Beekeeper’s sudden departure, it was rectified quickly. The film is once again streaming on Prime Video for all to enjoy.

What Is Jason Statham’s Next Movie?

Jason Statham’s next movie is Shelter, a survival thriller that’s coming to theaters on January 30, 2026. The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who worked with Gerard Butler on both Greenland movies. Later in the year, Statham’s next action movie, Mutiny, will also arrive in theaters. Currently slated for release on August 21, 2026, the film hails from director Jean François-Richet, famed for his work on another Gerard Butler actioner, Plane. Statham is also expected to reprise his role as Deckard Shaw in the 11th and final Fast & Furious movie.
