SALT LAKE CITY – On a night on which judging left many viewers scratching their heads, Dana White was right there with them.

Following UFC 307 on Saturday in Salt Lake City, White admitted he was not a fan of some of the scorecards turned in.

“The judging tonight was atrocious,” White told MMA Junkie and other reporters after the event at Delta Center. “I felt like I was at a boxing match in Ireland tonight.”

The judging wasn’t the only regulatory topic that entered the public discourse during Saturday’s fights. While White said he missed the highly-criticized officiating by local referee Dave Seljestad, he added that UFC senior vice president of regulatory affairs Marc Ratner indicated his displeasure at actions taken during the fight between Cesar Almeida and Ihor Potieria.

The main card bout between Mario Bautista and Jose Aldo also became a hot topic. Aldo was repeatedly smothered by Bautista against the fence, which caused his former rival Conor McGregor to become irate on social media.

McGregor took exception with the idea of stalling and proposed that a clock be installed to limit the amount of inactivity that could occur before a separation.

White agreed that protocols should be adjusted to promote more action, though doesn’t think a clock is necessary.

“I always think that the referees should be more active on that, 100 percent, especially when somebody keeps doing it to stall. You guys aren’t going to f*cking let up on this, are you? I guess we’ll get into it. If you’re judging a guy on control or this or that, if you’re not trying to fight, how do you win the fight? If you’re looking at attempted takedowns, then what about stuffing the takedowns. Just madness.”

“… When you can tell that the guy definitely doesn’t want to stand and strike and just wants to stall against the fence, yes, the refs, that’s their job. When they see it continually happening and that the guy is not trying to win the fight, then you keep breaking them up.”

Alex Pereira has done it again.

Fans, fighters, and media were left in awe at the light heavyweight champion’s latest performance against Khalil Rountree Jr. in the UFC 307 main event. Pereira and Rountree fought tooth-and-nail before Pereira put the bloodied challenger away with a brutal flurry of strikes in the fourth round of Saturday’s UFC 307 main event.

From the moment Pereira walked out to the octagon to their across-the-cage face-off to the bloody battle that ensued and the unforgettable finish, it was yet another epic moment authored by “Poatan.”

Unsurprisingly, social media was abuzz with reactions, including UFC star Conor McGregor who called for a dream fight that fans has left fans salivating: Pereira vs. heavyweight champion and light heavyweight GOAT Jon Jones.

“Poatan vs. Bones,” McGregor wrote on social media.

Others also reacted passionately to the show-closing performance, including Max Holloway, Renato Moicano, and Gilbert Burns, no strangers to thrilling fights themselves.

Khalil Rountree Jr. won’t soon forget his epic battle against Alex Pereira at UFC 307, because he’ll have the scars to show for it.

Despite a valiant effort, the light heavyweight title challenger came up short after his night ended with a devastating fourth round knockout loss as Pereira’s championship reign continued. Following the fight, Rountree was transported to a local Salt Lake City hospital for precautionary reasons, which included stitching up several gruesome cuts he suffered during the fight.

UFC CEO Dana White posted a backstage photo of Rountree showing off all the cuts and bruising from the battle against Pereira.

While the result didn’t go his way, Rountree showed tons of heart as he gave Pereira everything he could handle during the early part of the fight. As time passed, however, Pereira seized control with pinpoint accurate striking including a jab that did a lot of that damage to Rountree’s face.

By the time the fourth round was underway, Rountree’s face was a mess and so much blood was pouring out of the wounds that his entire face and chest were both covered.

Still, Rountree kept coming until Pereira finally blasted him with a pair of body shots and one final uppercut that ended his night. He didn’t get the win, but White had nothing but praise for Rountree for his performance.

“He had no fear from the first round,” White said. “Khalil Rountree went in there and started going at it the minute the bell rang. No fear, no jitters, no nerves. Maybe he had some jitters and nerves, if he did, he didn’t show it.

“He went right in against one of the baddest dudes of all time and just started mixing it up with him. It was awesome.”

It remains to be seen if all of the damage done was just superficial or if Rountree suffered any kind of injuries from the fight. He’ll get checked over by doctors in Utah before being cleared to return home to Las Vegas.

The UFC handed out four bonuses after Saturday’s card, including to the main event title fighters.

Ryan Spann (22-10 MMA, 8-5 UFC) needed only 95 seconds to take out former interim light heavyweight title challenger Ovince Saint Preux (27-18 MMA, 15-13 UFC) with a slick guillotine choke. It likely sent Saint Preux packing from the UFC after a lengthy run in the promotion.
