It has been barely 1,200 days since OpenAI unleashed ChatGPT. Yet, if you believe the most extreme artificial-intelligence boosters, the technology should have transformed the business world already. (Or it will do so any day now.) It is just as easy to find critics who think AI is just the latest tech fad that is doomed to fizzle before it achieves anything. That, too, is going to happen any day now.

NEW YORK — Verizon Communications Inc. customers reported connectivity issues with wireless services Tuesday, prompting the telecommunications giant to monitor the situation as isolated complaints surfaced online.

The reports emerged around early morning Eastern Time, with users noting difficulties making calls, sending texts or accessing mobile data in various locations. A monitoring account on X, formerly Twitter, highlighted the complaints, directing users to a community forum for discussion.

According to the DesignTAXI community post linked in social media alerts, issues began surfacing around 12:27 a.m. ET based on tracking data. Subscribers shared experiences of network disruptions, though the scale appeared limited compared to previous widespread outages.

Downdetector, a site that aggregates user reports, showed no major spike indicating a nationwide outage as of Tuesday afternoon, with current data reflecting normal operations for most services. Verizon’s own network status tools also did not flag broad problems.

Verizon, one of the largest U.S. wireless carriers serving millions of customers, has not issued a public statement specifically addressing Tuesday’s reports. The company typically investigates such complaints through its engineering teams and provides updates via its website or official social channels when disruptions affect a significant number of users.

This latest episode comes amid ongoing scrutiny of telecom reliability following several notable service interruptions earlier in 2026. In January, Verizon experienced a major nationwide outage lasting nearly 10 hours that disrupted voice, text and data services for hundreds of thousands of customers across the country. Reports peaked at over 175,000 on Downdetector, with many phones displaying “SOS” mode instead of regular signal bars.

That January disruption, which began shortly after noon ET on Jan. 14, impacted major metropolitan areas from New York to Seattle. Verizon later attributed it to a software issue and confirmed it was not related to cybersecurity. The company resolved the problem by late evening and offered affected customers a $20 account credit.

” We are aware of an issue impacting wireless voice and data services for some customers. Our engineers are engaged and are working to identify and solve the issue quickly,” Verizon stated during the January event. Officials emphasized the importance of reliable connectivity and apologized for the inconvenience.

Telecom experts note that even minor service hiccups can have outsized effects in an increasingly connected world. Mobile networks support everything from emergency communications and remote work to navigation and financial transactions. Federal regulators, including the Federal Communications Commission, require carriers to maintain robust systems and report significant outages.

For customers experiencing problems Tuesday, standard troubleshooting steps recommended by Verizon and industry sources include:

  • Restarting the device.
  • Toggling airplane mode on and off.
  • Checking for software updates.
  • Ensuring the SIM card is properly seated.
  • Testing with Wi-Fi calling if available.

Users in areas with potential coverage gaps may also switch to another carrier’s network temporarily via roaming, though this depends on their plan.

Verizon operates one of the most extensive 5G networks in the United States, covering a vast majority of the population. However, like all carriers, it faces challenges from network congestion, infrastructure maintenance and external factors such as weather or fiber cuts.

A huge windfarm site in the Irish Sea is set to go back out to tender again next month with the aim of naming a new developer by the end of the year.

The Morgan offshore wind site was originally brought to market through Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 in 2021, but in January the original developer pulled out.

The Crown Estate says it has since been reviewing options for the site, which it says could help create thousands of jobs and provide up to 1.5 million homes with “clean, homegrown energy”. It will launch a competitive tender process next month and plans to award the site to a developer in late 2026. More details about the site conditions, tender process and commercial model will be published soon.

The Crown Estate says the Morgan process is separate to Leasing Round 6, which is set to launch that year, and will not affect the timeline of that round.

The Morgan site sits some 30 miles off the Fylde coast. Cables would come onshore near Blackpool Airport and reach to Penwortham, Preston. A Development Consent Order (DCO) was secured for the windfarm in August 2025 and the Morgan team is now awaiting a decision on the DCO application for its transmission assets. A decision on that bid, a joint application with the transmission assets of the 480MW Morecambe offshore windfarm, is expected this September.

Quick commerce platform Zepto revealed in its updated draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) on Monday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned its founders Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra in relation to the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in April 2026.

In its updated DRHP filed with SEBI for a $1 billion (Rs 9,500 crore) initial public offering, Zepto said that Palicha and Vohra were required to produce some documents with regard to foreign investments, audited balance sheets for the financial year 2020-21, shareholding patterns, details on loans and guarantees, income tax returns and bank accounts, along with other information.

Complying with the summons, Vohra appeared before the ED on April 17 and April 22. Palicha appeared before the authority on April 20 and May 15 this year. “As on the date of this Updated Draft Red Herring Prospectus – I, they have provided relevant information and documents as requested by ED pursuant to the Summons, as well as follow-on information requested by the ED further to their interactions, including certain details in relation to our holding structure, the Scheme, and additional information in relation to our business such as business agreements and invoices,” Zepto said.

The quick commerce company said it has not yet received any further communication from ED. It assured that there will not be future inquiries or that these could escalate to investigations, legal proceedings or any possible penalties.

Zepto IPO

The much-awaited IPO of Zepto will comprise a fresh issue of shares worth Rs 8,010 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) of nearly 11.35 crore shares by existing shareholders, according to the updated prospectus. The five-year-old company had filed its IPO papers confidentially with market regulator SEBI back in December 2025 and received the regulator’s approval in May this year.

Zepto is aiming to debut on stock markets in July, people familiar with the matter told The Economic Times. This would make the firm the third quick commerce player on Dalal Street, along with Blinkit parent Eternal and Instamart parent Swiggy.

Zepto reported a 75% year-on-year (YoY) jump in consolidated revenue for the fourth quarter of FY26 to Rs 7,498 crore, according to its updated DRHP. The Bengaluru-based company also narrowed its net loss to Rs 1,539 crore during the January-March quarter from Rs 1,832 crore a year earlier, the filing showed.
Zepto processed 210 million orders during the quarter, i.e. over 2 million orders a day. It ended March 2026 with 1,139 dark stores, up from 1,029 a year earlier. Orders per store per day rose to 2,140 from 1,425 in the year-ago period, indicating higher throughput across its network.
