After a season full of setbacks in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rishabh Pant returned to national duty with an 81-run knock for India against Afghanistan. Pant, who struggled for runs in the Lucknow Super Giants jersey, didn’t take much time in proving why he is among the most fearsome batters in Test cricket. But, seeing Pant depart without scoring a hundred, former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was left disappointed. In a video on his YouTube channel, Ashwin call Pant the “best Test batter India has” but lamented his inability to take up more responsibilities.

“You’ve got out so many times in the 80s and 90s. It’s impossible to discover such a great Test batter. But playing such a shot on 80 is mind-boggling. Having come to 80, can’t you play for another 20 runs? He has cost India a few times through baffling shots at the wrong time. As a batter, he has to take that extra responsibility. If he had converted his multiple 80s to 100s, his stats would look unbelievable,” Ashwin said in the video, as he criticised Pant for not showing enough patience to convert his 81 into a century.

“All batters make mistakes, but the amount of time he does it is disappointing. Especially when so many have told you that it’s a mistake and to still keep doing it, I am not okay with that. He has played more than 50 Tests now. So he needs to start playing the situation for the team on many occasions.”

Ashwin couldn’t quite hide the fact that he is a big Rishabh Pant fan in Tests. The former all-rounder even rates the wicket-keeper batter above the likes of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul Yashasvi Jaiswal and other top India batters in the Test format.

“He’s (Pant) actually the best Test batter. When he defends, it’s so good that even Gavaskar is impressed. When he defends, the ball literally pleads if it can move off the square to him. He has so much time, irrespective of how fast the ball comes at him,” said Ashwin.

Ashwin also revealed that he has had quite a few conversations with Pant about buying time and converting starts into bigger totals. Yet, the wicket-keeper batter continues to apply himself as he deems fit.

“I’ve told him so many times that you’ve so much time to defend and can play whatever shot you want to. Why do you get yourself out? Many will say it’s his natural game. But natural game is playing the percentages in Test cricket. A good percentage shot is knowing there is a 70% success rate. When you look to hit a ball over the fielders on the boundary, it’s not a percentage shot at all.”

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is set to be a star player for Spain at this summer’s World Cup

Manchester City midfielder Rodri played 60 minutes overnight for Spain after surviving a training ground injury scare ahead of the World Cup. Before Spain’s final World Cup warm-up match against Peru in Mexico, which Spain won 3-1, the 29-year-old was on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Barcelona’s Gavi.

Gavi caught Rodri on the foot during the training session in Chattanooga, Tennessee, leaving the Ballon d’Or winner in pain. The City man was eventually helped to his feet by Gavi but that was not the end of the matter. Critics online accused the Barcelona man of being overzealous and reckless just days before the World Cup.

In his pre-Peru press conference, Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente defended the 21-year-old. “This is football,” he explained. “It’s training. The players are very committed, and nobody has to apologise to anybody. Everything is fine.

Rodri’s recent injury history made the challenge more concerning for supporters. In September 2024, the midfielder suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear during a clash with Arsenal.

He only returned for City properly during the 2025 Club World Cup. Since then, he has suffered a number of different injury setbacks and Rodri has admitted he was at one point concerned he would not return to the pitch.

Recent Moses Itauma opponent Dillian Whyte has weighed in on the rising star’s chances against former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

It hasn’t exactly been the easiest start to the 2026 WNBA season for the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark.

After Clark missed most of 2025, expectations were high that she would return to her rookie season form for 2026. But after a strong start, it’s been undeniably an unusually shaky and inconsistent run of production for the 24-year-old superstar.

She put up more than 20 points in five straight games to the start the year, but failed to reach that level in four straight afterward.

Despite a strong performance against the Golden State Valkyries, putting up 22 points along with nine assists and 44% shooting from 3-point range, Clark’s struggled to maintain that momentum. She had five turnovers in the rematch with the Valkyries, then just six points against the Portland Fire on May 30.

Saturday’s loss to the New York Liberty was a microcosm of Clark’s play thus far. Just 10 points on 28.6% from the field, 33.3% from three, three turnovers and five fouls. Though in a sign of her ability to contribute even when not at her best, she did add nine assists and seven rebounds.

Entering Monday, she was just 14 for 50 from the floor in the Fever’s most recent games. More surprisingly, she was just 6 of 22 on 3-point attempts.

With the Fever just 5-5, Monday night’s game against the Washington Mystics was an important opportunity to get back on track. And that’s exactly what she did.

Clark started out strong, scoring 10 points in the first quarter, going 2-5 from three. Coach Stephanie White left her on the bench for much of the second quarter, however, playing under 4 minutes total. Though she still found a way to impress with an incredible pass to find Myisha Hines-Allen for a layup.

In the second half, however, she showed off some more of her trademark shooting. With seven minutes left in the third, Clark made a 25-foot jump shot, all while Cassandre Prosper interfered with her ability to land. The foul was deemed not to be flagrant, and Clark completed the rare four-point play.

Despite the Fever opening up a sizable lead at that point, the Mystics battled back, whittling it down to just two points halfway through the fourth and one point with a minute remaining. Thanks to a loose ball foul, the Mystics took a one-point lead. But Clark drew contact in the lane, giving herself two free throws to give the Fever back the lead. She missed both.

But again, even while something is just a bit off with her shooting, she found a way to contribute. After a Mystics’ turnover, Clark found Aliyah Boston with a beautiful half court pass to make it 75-74 Fever.

The Mystics came right back, taking the lead 76-75 after a late foul. But then, the dagger. Sophie Cunningham threw a long, cross court pass to Clark on an in bounds play, and she buried a 31-footer to give the Fever the win, 78-76.

After the run of questionable performances, Monday was much closer to a return to form for Clark. 19 points on 7-16 shooting, 4 of 10 from 3, five assists and a steal. Including the incredible game winner.
