It’s been a pretty weird decade to be a Ghostbusters fan. Paul Feige’s all-female movie was supposed to reboot the franchise for modern audiences and make the franchise mainstream again. Instead, it became a firestorm of controversy, and we eventually got Ghostbusters: Afterlife. While it was more about Spielbergian wonder than cynical wisecracks, Afterlife appealed to the old-school fans, earning enough money to warrant a sequel: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. However, Frozen Empire was a crowded, somewhat sloppy film that cost more and made less than Afterlife, leaving the future of the franchise uncertain.
Now, the latest iteration of Ghostbusters will be on the small screen rather than the big screen. A new, animated show is launching on Netflix in 2027, and fans have been eager to hear more about what this cartoon will be about. Recently, Sony unveiled the show’s logo as well as its provocative new name, Ghostbusters: Night Shift. Many are buzzing with excitement, but some can’t help but ask the obvious question: “wait, that’s it?” This cartoon has been in the works for several years now, and the fact that it is still so shrouded in mystery is starting to feel like a very, very bad sign.
A New Take On A Classic Logo
When Sony unveiled the logo for Ghostubers: Night Shift, fans were divided. On the one hand, it’s nice that this logo shares so much in common with the original film logo; most reboots and revivals change so much that we love, so it’s nice to know that this upcoming cartoon isn’t shaking things up too much. On the other hand, the new logo is so close to the original logo that it seems almost odd that they changed it. The changes are also so odd and minimalist (like yellowed teeth and a beastly claw on the ghost) that it seems like a borderline AI creation. The prompt? “Make the Ghostbusters logo look scary.”
Additionally, the subtitle “Night Shift” has caused speculation about who the core Ghostbusters team will be and what the show will be about. The name implies that the cartoon likely won’t follow the original Ghostbusters, who (in addition to being very old) didn’t answer many calls in the wee hours. The show is also unlikely to follow the core crew of Aferlife and Frozen Empire. It’s possible that the new show will go full meta and feature the Ghostbusters as an in-universe franchise. Therefore, we might be following a new team of a local Ghostbusters branch, one that covers the titular night shift.
Trusted Names And Plenty Of Secrets
Aside from the new name and new logo, we know very little about Ghostbusters: Night Shift. The show will be a Netflix exclusive and is set to premiere in 2027, though an exact release date remains unknown. It’s not entirely clear what kind of animation style we are likely to see, either. While the smart money is on the show having the uncanny, CGI-animated look of Netflix’s Stranger Things cartoon, the show may end up with a more traditional 2D style, like the streamer’s steadily-growing list of exclusive anime titles. One thing we do know about Ghostbusters: Night Shift, though, is that it is being made by some names we can trust.
The show is being executive-produced by Dan Aykroyd, the franchise star who originally came up with the idea of the Ghostbusters in the first place. Other EPs include Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, both of whom co-wrote Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Finally, Elliott Kalan is serving as writer and co-showrunner of this new cartoon; if his name doesn’t ring a bell, Kalan has written for The Daily Show and Mystery Science Theater 3000, and he’s the motormouthed, show-stealing cohost of the hit podcast The Flophouse. Kalan is also a comics writer who gave us the often-memed scene where the villainous Sauron tells Spider-Man he’d rather turn people into dinosaurs than cure cancer.

Akyroyd is the OG talent, Reitman is the shepherd of the modern movies, and Kalan is the passionate fan working on his dream franchise. Together, they might just have what it takes to make Ghostbusters: Night Shift into Netflix’s latest killer cartoon. Otherwise, this beloved franchise may fade away and become the worst kind of ghost: one that nobody even cares about watching, much less busting.

One Day follows Emma Morley (Ambika Mod) and Dexter Mayhew (Leo Woodall), who become rather close friends after meeting the night of their university graduation on July 15, 1988. Although the two go their separate ways the next day, the series continues to focus on their relationship’s evolutionas it revisits them on the same date across the years.
One Day is a truly exceptional watch. It’s a complete, emotionally satisfying story that never feels as if it’s overstaying its welcome. Every episode of One Day feels important due to its unique year-by-year structure that masterfully showcases Dexter and Emma’s relationship, all the while capturing the passage of time with incredible honesty. The series may be “small,” but it is fantastically mighty, a brilliant series with zero filler that wields sharp writing that balances humor, romance, and intense heartbreak.

Tom Hardy’s name has been all over the internet the last few months after reports surfaced online that he had been fired from MobLand after a rift formed between him and one of the show’s leading producers. New reports have since come out confirming that these tensions have been smoothed over, and that Hardy will indeed be asked back should MobLand be renewed for Season 3. Season 2 premieres on September 18. Fans were disappointed this year to not see Hardy return as Alfie Solomons in The Immortal Man, the Peaky Blinders spin-off film that dropped on Netflix back in March. Creator Steven Knight confirmed that he tossed around ideas to bring Hardy back, but ultimately settled on leaving him out of the final cut. Hardy has worked with Knight on other non-Peaky Blinders projects in the past, though.
Back in 2017, Hardy starred in the first and only (at least for now) season of Taboo, the British mystery thriller that he also wrote along with his father Chips Hardy and Steven Knight. The show was even produced by Ridley Scott via his long-time production banner Scott Free, and Scott was said to be involved in some of the show’s biggest creative decisions. It’s quickly approaching 10 years since the first season of Taboo hit the air, but the show is still a fan-favorite on streaming, where it routinely charts in the top 10 on platforms such as Peacock, Pluto TV, and even the Roku Channel. There have been whispers of a Taboo Season 2 for years, and while Knight and Hardy have confirmed they’ve had conversations about the story, there have been no concrete updates for a while.

What Is ‘Taboo’ About?

It is not quite like a legal drama to get the blood boiling with tension as everything hangs in the balance within the confines of a courtroom. Hollywood has expertly glamorized proceedings, often making them less tedious than they might typically be. Shows like The Lincoln Lawyer and Matlockare high-quality shows that aptly deliver on this, showcasing unorthodox means of tackling court cases even while introducing protagonists and clients who are battling personal demons. Law is an incredibly difficult profession to get into, and these shows bring us closer than we might ever get. One title in particular sets the standard. Suits kicked off in June 2011 on the USA Network and introduced us to Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), a chipper lad with a photographic memory who stumbles into an interview with hotshot lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht).
While most legal shows favor a law degree, Suits goes in the opposite direction, centralizing its story on a character who never even went to law school but somehow more than held his own in the Big Apple amongst New York’s titans. Surrounded by a team of incredible co-stars, the show rapidly endeared itself to audiences across the globe. Despite ending in 2019, Suits remains essential viewing for those who love the legal genre and a resurgence during the pandemic highlighted that. The show broke the record for most-streamed program in the U.S. in 2023 with the surprise resurgence on Netflix leading NBC to greenlight a spin-off entitled Suits LA, where several of the OG stars made guest appearances. Unfortunately, Suits LA, led by Stephen Amell as Ted Black and created by Aaron Korsh, the same mind behind the original series, didn’t have the same appeal as its predecessor, which meant it was canceled after only a single season.
Interestingly though, for those who still have a Pearson Specter itch to scratch. Adams has a game plan for a continuation of the original show that could appeal to fans. Per People, in a now deleted Instagram Stories post, the actor shared his own pitch for a series comeback in early July 2026. In the original series, Mike, amid his other responsibilities within the law firm, shared a romance with Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle). “Mike and Rachel are working on a class action suit against a giant Al company when suddenly the years of past indiscretions and illegal maneuvering at Pearson Hardman are threatened to be revealed,” he wrote. His revival idea is quite exciting, especially given that it would also bring back co-stars Macht, Sarah Rafferty, Gina Torres, and Rick Hoffman, with their respective characters seeing their careers in danger of getting torpedoed by these revelations. “Once again, Mike’s wanting to do good has dragged this team back together with one chance to truly wipe the slate clean and buy them all a future that they can be proud of,” Adams added.

‘Suits LA’ Had Great Potential
Anyone who has seen Suits would understand the desire in several quarters to see a spin-off or revival of some kind. Suits LA, with its unique storytelling approach, initially had great prospects. Its main cast, led by Amell and joined by Josh McDermitt asStuart Lane, Lex Scott Davis as Erica Rollins, and Bryan Greenbergas Rick Dodsen, alongside a strong supporting cast, also pointed toward great things. Unfortunately, despite its talent pool and the show bringing on a plethora of real-life celebrities as guest stars, the show never really caught on for the viewing public. The show seemed to take itself a bit too seriously, while lacking the dynamic between Harvey Specter and Mike Ross that made Suits tick. Given that Adams’ idea welcomes back many of the original stars, such a revival might be what the show’s legacy needs going forward.

Star of the beloved Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End) and many other acclaimed titles, there’s no doubt that Simon Pegg‘s name being attached to a project is sure to attract plenty of attention. In 2022, the British favorite starred alongside Siân Brooke (Blue Lights), Hannah Khalique-Brown (Red Rose), and Alex Jennings (A Very English Scandal) in an underrated Channel 4 thriller series.
The Undeclared War quickly garnered positive reviews, being compared to 24 and Homelandby one critic, and described as “exceedingly well-made” by another, who was particularly laudatory about the direction of The State‘s Peter Kosminsky, who was behind the camera for every episode in Season 1. Sadly, fans waited four years to receive a second season, which added Ed Stoppard (Knightfall) and Chloe Pirrie (The Queen’s Gambit) to an already stacked cast.
But as soon as the second season debuted on Channel 4 across the pond, thoughts immediately turned to a third outing. These very thoughts have just received a huge boost courtesy of Pegg and Khalique-Brown, with the former stating in an interview with Radio Times that he would “absolutely” return. “I’ve had a couple of conversations with the writer about where we could go next, in terms of what the status quo is at the end of the series. Obviously, everything’s changed,” Pegg added. There are definitely options and plot lines that could be explored,” Khalique-Brown added. “The scope is there, for sure. Although he’s most famous for his work in British comedy, a lot of American viewers will know Pegg best for portraying quirky IMF lab technician Benji in the Mission: Impossible franchise. Last summer, this iconic action franchise came to an explosive, emotional end, as Tom Cruise faced one more mission as Ethan Hunt before riding off into the sunset in The Final Reckoning. After delivering the biggest global debut of Christopher Nolan‘s career, The Odyssey has broken another personal record for the filmmaker. Nolan works exclusively on large-scale projects, which means that he has set a high box-office bar for himself over the years. Two of his movies — The Dark Knight and its sequel, The Dark Knight Rises — have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. Another film, Oppenheimer, came awfully close to hitting this coveted milestone in 2023. The biographical thriller ended its theatrical run with $975 million against a reported budget of $100 million. It should surpass the $1 billion milestone if it is ever re-released. But Oppenheimer will likely be beaten to the punch by The Odyssey, which is going on a rampage at the box office.
The movie grossed around $265 million in its global opening, against a reported budget of $250 million. This is the biggest budget that Nolan has ever worked with, tied with The Dark Knight Rises. For context, the Russo Brothers‘ latest release, The Electric State, is said to have cost $320 million to produce. The Netflix sci-fi movie holds a 14% critics’ score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes — a career-low for the Russos — while The Odyssey has received some of the best reviews of Nolan’s career. The epic is now sitting at a “Certified Fresh” 94% critics’ score and a “Verified Hot” 97% audience score on the aggregator, where the consensus reads, “Reinvigorating an ancient adventure with majestic sweep and sterling work by its colossal ensemble, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey imbues myth with primal human feeling.”

Here’s How Much ‘The Odyssey’ Has Grossed So Far
The near-unanimous praise seems to be paying off already, with the movie grossing a massive $21 million domestically on its first Tuesday. This is the biggest Tuesday haul of Nolan’s career, ahead of The Dark Knight‘s $20 million in 2008. The epic is also poised to out-gross The Dark Knight in its second weekend in domestic theaters. To do this, it would need to gross more than $75 million in its sophomore frame. Starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Robert Pattinson, the movie is on the verge of passing the $350 million mark globally. Beddoes did acknowledge that overall trust in the news and journalism is at an all-time low — according to one October 2025 Gallup poll, only 28 percent of Americans report having a “great deal” or “fair amount” of trust in newspapers, television and radio to report the news accurately and fairly.

“I think there is certainly [a] loss of trust in journalism. I think, in part, there have been mistakes by journalists and journalism, I totally acknowledge that,” she explained. “But I think the kind of polarized environment, particularly on social media fostered by the kinds of things you’re pushing on X, actually helps this – makes it worse.”

Netflix introduced a new generation of fans to Little House on the Prairie with the recent release of the streaming service’s highly anticipated reboot — but there are some core differences between the show and the beloved original series.
“With this version, our showrunner and creator, Rebecca Sonnenshine, she’s really gone back to Laura Ingalls Wilder‘s books as the source material,” Luke Bracey, who stars as patriarch “Pa” Charles Ingalls in the new version, began on the Friday, July 24, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark. “All the stories come from there and she says that she wanted to have the show make you feel what you felt when you read the books as a kid.”
Both versions of Little House were adapted from Ingalls Wilder’s iconic, semi-autobiographical books of the same name, chronicling a pioneer family’s move from Wisconsin to Kansas.
“Hopefully, we fit as much [from the books] as we can into the scripts,” Bracey, 37, said on Friday. “That’s probably the main delineation from the original show, but the fact that it’s a family trying to be good people is still the core of it.”

Bracey plays Charles opposite Crosby Fitzgerald’s Caroline Ingalls, who are the parents of Mary (Skywalker Hughes) and Laura (Alice Halsey).
The original series, meanwhile, aired from 1974 to 1983, starring Michael Landon and Karen Grassle as the Ingalls parents. Their kids were played by then-child stars Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson and twins Lindsay and Sydney Greenbush.
For Australia native Bracey, he admittedly had “no concept” of Little House before landing the role.

“I got an email about the audition and I saw the title and, maybe I’d heard the title before, but I had no concept of the story or the show or the books or anything like that,” the actor told hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos on their daytime TV show. “I read the script and it’s a really great script. It’s kind of hard to deny [that]. I thought, ‘Wow, it’s so rare these days to have a show of such high quality that’s nice.’ It’s about nice people trying their hardest in life and facing obstacles and getting up and overcoming them and trying to be good people while doing it.”
Bracey added, “I just thought that was such a special thing and quite rare these days in shows. A lot of shows are really dark and I love the idea of portraying a good man or a man trying to be a good man. [He’s] not perfect, far from perfect, but [Charles is] really wanting to be a good father and a good husband and a good member of his community.”
Little House on the Prairie is currently streaming on Netflix.
Tulsa’s ABC affiliate reported on July 23, 2026, that Gilson and Duffey were found dead in their Oklahoma City home after a fatal shooting. A juvenile family member present at the scene allegedly told investigators that the the separated couple died by murder-suicide.
Two weeks earlier, Gilson stunned her 43,000 TikTok followers by accusing Duffey of pedophilia and insisting they were “soon to be” divorced. (Duffey never publicly addressed the accusations before his death.)
An investigation into the alleged murder-suicide is ongoing, as of publication. Gilson is survived by two children from a previous relationship.

The alarming content about Duffey was abnormal for Gilson’s TikTok account. The hairstylist gained more than 40,000 followers for her commentary on fashion trends and parenting her two children.
Her TikTok bio stressed to followers that her fashion videos only featured “Amazon finds [that] I actually use.”

On July 11, Gilson stunned her TikTok followers with a video about her “soon to be” ex-husband Duffey. The clip showed her taking a seat in front of a neutral background, as if she was filming an interview for a documentary or reality show.

“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband, who I just found out is a pedophile,” she wrote over the clip.
The video followed a popular viral trend but its shocking content quickly went viral. As of publication, the clip has received more than 830,000 “likes” and generated more than 25,000 comments.
Duffey never responded to his estranged wife’s allegations before their deaths.
Sara Gilson Filed For a Restraining Order Against Shawn Duffey
The Oklahoman reported that Gilson filed for an emergency order of protection against Duffey in June 2026. As a result, Duffey was ordered to leave the family home and stay at least 100 yards away from Gilson through at least August 24.
Per the oulet, Gilson previously filed a restraining order against Duffey in 2021 though it was ultimately dismissed because she did not attend a hearing.

Another woman filed a separate order of protection against Duffey in June 2026, on behalf of her daughter, a 15-year-old girl who allegedly played on a youth basketball team that Duffey coached, according to People.
Sara Gilson Thanked Fans for Their Support Weeks Before Her Death
Prior to her viral TikTok video, Gilson publicly thanked her followers for standing by her through her split with Duffey.
“Thank you for the army. Your thoughts, prayers and gift cards have meant more than you know,” she wrote via TikTok on June 20, 2026. “While I’m grieving and trying to process the worst thing imaginable, I’m solely focused on my children and their well-being. Their safety and mental health is my only concern at this time.”
She concluded, “We are not OK and I’m not sure I’ll ever be the same, but God has been so faithful in this process and I feel his presence in everything I do.”

Gilson shared a final TikTok on July 21, 2023, where she wrote a now-eerie message over a photo of her relaxing on a boat.

911 Dispatchers Revealed Shocking Information About the Day of Alleged Shooting
Per People, emergency dispatchers reported hearing Gilson “screaming and crying” before she was found dead by police. A minor family member had called 911 to report a home break-in.
“I’m trying to reach [the caller] back, but I could hear a female in the background screaming and crying. Some sort of loud bang in the background,” a dispatcher desperately relayed in recordings.
Moments later, a dispatcher said the situation involved a “male that we were looking for a few weeks ago after he got caught kissing a juvenile” and made a reference to “a gun.”

Police arrived at Gilson’s home in Owasso, near Oklahoma City, at around 11:18 p.m. local time on July 23, 2026.
The separated couple were found dead at the scene. A family member later told police that they suspected a murder-suicide.
The Owasso Police Department has not yet confirmed that the deaths were as a result of a murder-suicide plot but an active investigation is underway, as of publication.
A GoFundMe Was Set Up for Sara Gilson’s Children
A fundraiser for Gilson’s two children has raised more than $23,000, as of publication.

After a solid opening week on Netflix, the streamer’s latest franchise feature seems to be plummeting on the viewership charts. Netflix remains the only streaming platform that is transparent about viewership, which it measures using its own metrics. While this data makes for interesting analysis, it can also make a film or show’s performance abundantly clear to the public. And Enola Holmes 3, the third installment in the streaming platform’s young-adult franchise, is certainly not doing as well as anybody involved in it would have liked. The movie brings back Millie Bobby Brown — arguably the biggest homegrown star on Netflix — as the titular heroine. She is joined in the movie by Henry Cavill, who returns as Enola’s illustrious older brother, Sherlock Holmes.
The first and second films, Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2, were both directed by Harry Bradbeer. They were released in 2020 and 2022, receiving warm reviews from critics and audiences. Along with the Extraction movies headlined by Chris Hemsworth, the Enola Holmes series seemed to be the best franchise play devised by Netflix. The third movie was written by returning scribe Jack Thorne, but it was directed by Philip Barantini, who broke out last year with the widely acclaimed limited series Adolescence. However, the creative change-up didn’t translate into better reviews.
