The retailer announced it will open and transform 18 stores in the first three months of the year
The Co-op has announced plans to open 18 new and transformed stores across the country over the next months, including one in the north west.
The retailer revealed 18 locations will be getting a new or transformed store in the first three months of the year. The Co-op said this was part of its commitment to ‘backing British High Streets’.
As part of the plans, the Co-op will open its first new store in the new neighbourhood development of Willowbrook Park in Didcot, Oxfordshire. The first of the stores to re-open following a major makeover will be a convenience store in Eastern Green in Coventry and a franchise operated site in Ealing in London.

Among the locations getting a new or transformed store is also Westgate in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. The retailer has also outlined locations across the West Midlands, East Midlands and Yorkshire as part of its plans.
Kate McCrae, Co-op Operations Director, said: “We’re focussed on creating local stores which are more than just a shop – they are a hub locally that contribute to local life and conveniently meet the needs of communities.
“Our stores have a focus on quality products and value for our members and customers, with a great range of deals and promotions on the items shoppers want to buy. I’m delighted to see our first new store of 2026 open in Oxfordshire, as we start 2026 with an active store opening programme to increase and enhance Co-op’s presence in high streets and communities all across the UK.”
The announcement comes after the Co-op revealed it would be opening, re-opening and refurbishing 50 of its stores at the end of last year. Among these was the retailer’s Great Moor store in Stockport, which re-opened in December.
