St Helens Road and Deane Road operation underway by police

Rumworth and Hulton ward neighbourhood officers conducted the stops on Deane Road and St Helens Road.

They said these resulted in four traffic offence reports, one negative breath test and one vehicle seized for having no insurance.

Officers were on the look out for vehicles without insurance and drivers under the influence as part of Operation Limit.

Operation Limit is a national campaign running throughout December that aims to reduce deaths and serious injuries caused by drink and drug driving.

The checks carried out as part of the operation will also allow officers to catch drivers committing the other “fatal four” offences – speeding, using a mobile phone, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence.

“The stops were an opportunity for officers to check vehicle’s had the correct insurance, pass over traffic advice and look for potential drink/drug drivers as part of Op Limit.”

The two roads have become notorious for collisions, including fatal crashes.

Action is and has been taken against drivers, with ANPR cameras being installed in the area to catch and educate repeat offenders.

Using information from speed cameras to identify specific information about speeding vehicles in the area, contact is made in person or by a bespoke letter to the registered keepers to warn them of the dangers of speeding.
