Daniel Sturridge Reacts to ‘Crazy’ Mohamed Salah Liverpool Comments
Daniel Sturridge has criticised Mohamed Salah for his incredible outburst which has plunged his Liverpool future into doubt.
The Egyptian forward blasted the club and manager Arne Slot after their 3-3 draw with Leeds United at the weekend, claiming the Reds had “thrown him under the bus” for their recent form, and admitting his relationship with the boss was now non-existent.
Liverpool left him out of the starting line-up for three games in a row, and after the comments, he was axed from the travelling party for the Champions League clash with Inter Milan on Tuesday night, with Slot admitting he didn’t know if Salah would play for the club again.
Sturridge: The Reaction is Terrible
Salah’s comments have received major fallout from Liverpool fans and media members alike, with Jamie Carragher labelling him a ‘disgrace’.
But when asked for his thoughts on the situation, Salah’s former teammate Daniel Sturridge told Amazon Prime Video Sport that he felt that while the forward’s reaction to being dropped has been ‘terrible’, he does sympathise with him and believes there is still a way back for him at Anfield.
“For me, it’s not getting on the pitch that’s made him do this,” he said.
“You go to the West Ham game, cool they lose two games, which is not what any player wants for the club. Concede seven goals in two games. Go to West Ham, you win, and he didn’t come on the pitch in that game.
“Then the second game happens, you draw 1-1, you bring him on at half-time. Psychologically, as the player, you’re thinking, ‘cool, it’s my moment now’. As an attacker, I’m sure you’ll agree, you go, ‘okay, I’m going to be the answer here. I’m going to make the difference.’ It didn’t pan out that way, drew 1-1.
“The next game, you’re probably thinking, ‘I might get a start here’. I’m not thinking, more so thinking from his perspective that he didn’t get on again. I think that’s where there was probably an element of surprise to it, for him.
“The reaction is absolutely terrible. How he’s done it, how he’s said it, it’s poor. I’m disappointed in my friend. But at the end of the day, you know, I think he can come good again. That’s the thing.”
I think we’re viewing it in a moment of craziness. The key is what’s going to happen post this match, and whether he’s going to be involved at the weekend.”
Sources: Saudi Clubs Keen on Salah Deal
Salah could return to the Liverpool squad for their weekend clash with Brighton, but he will then head to the African Cup of Nations for up to a month, with his future likely to be resolved in that period.
GIVEMESPORT sources understand that interest from Saudi Arabia still remains and they would be keen to do a deal in January if it were possible, while there is also interest from MLS side Chicago Fire.
However, Liverpool are understood to still want Salah to see out his contract with the club, which runs until 2027, and believe the situation can be resolved with some time.
