The game of musical chairs within the world of fashion never stops. The rumor mill within the world of fashion never stops either. The latest gossip circulating is that Hedi Slimane is set to replace Sabato De Sarno at Gucci. Allegedly. Slimane sensationally left his creative post as Celine creative director in October 2024, following a rather triumphant Spring 2025 collection, unveiled during Paris Fashion Week only weeks prior. Sabato De Sarno joined Gucci in January 2023 with his collections often finding themselves under immense scrutiny (both here on theFashionSpot and the industry at large). In addition to the Gucci rumors, Slimane has also been named as a potential successor of Giorgio Armani (who turned 90 in July and ventured to New York to commemorate the occasion). Needless to say, where ever Slimane turns up next… we’ll be watching.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“Even though I doubt it, Hedi Slimane is the best person to give Gucci their super-basic-extra-luxe, which they want so much for Gucci and don’t currently have from Sabato De Sarno. I can imagine Slimane doing a new version of the Samuel Beckett bag (which I would buy).” [GivenchyAddict]
“OK. This will be Hedi’s biggest test of his career.” [Nimsay]
“I hope it’s true just for the drama.” [HigthaVandah]
“Hedi will be perfect for Gucci and is what they need to elevate the brand.” [tourbillions]
“I can’t believe I’m saying this, but Hedi is too good for Gucci. I hope he doesn’t stoop to that level. Direct films. Take photographs. Write a book. Anything but Gucci.” [blueorchid]
“I think Hedi Slimane is right for Gucci. Makes sense now about the house he bought in Milan! Him going back to Kering is like that friend that goes back with the toxic ex. Let’s wait for the official announcement…” [Xone]
