Tottenham Want to Hire Ex-Barcelona Manager Xavi to Replace Thomas Frank
Tottenham Hotspur are considering hiring former Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez to replace Thomas Frank, according to reports in Spain.
The North London side have endured a difficult start to life under the Danish tactician, winning just 10 of their 25 games across all competitions.
Sunday’s heavy 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest has only intensified scrutiny on Frank, with Spurs arguably producing their worst performance of the season.
With the club sitting 11th in the Premier League, Tottenham chiefs reportedly feel the season is not progressing as expected and are plotting a ‘significant change’ behind the scenes.
Tottenham Eyeing Xavi to Replace Frank
According to reports in Spain, Tottenham are concerned that the team lacks identity and consistency and shows no progress under Frank in his first six months at the club.
The north London side are believed to be considering a change in the dugout already, with Xavi emerging as a ‘serious’ option to replace Frank mid-season.
The board are reportedly viewing the potential appointment as an investment for the future rather than an emergency solution, with Xavi rated highly internally for his clear tactical identity and authority.
Xavi is available after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season and is believed to have turned down several offers already, including an approach from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad in September.
The 45-year-old was relieved of his duties at the Nou Camp in May last year after three seasons at the club, winning both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup in 2022/23.
Xavi, praised as ‘the best manager in the world’ and for being a ‘wonderful’ coach, spent 17 years with Barcelona as a player, winning four Champions Leagues and eight La Liga titles, before retiring in 2019.
Frank: No Quick Fix at Spurs
Frank was questioned over his future at Tottenham following the 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest and insisted the difficult position the club are currently in is ‘not a quick fix’:
‘I think it’s pretty evident that if no-one gets the time, no-one can turn this around. This is not a quick fix.’
The Danish tactician only took over at Tottenham in July, replacing sacked Ange Postecoglou following a victory in the Europa League final over Manchester United.
Sitting 11th in the Premier League after 16 games, Spurs next host Liverpool on Saturday, 20 December.
