Darlington pair Amy Cave and Craig Neill to be sentenced

Amy Cave and Craig Neill were arrested after the toddler collapsed and was taken to hospital, requiring part of their skull to be removed to relieve pressure on the brain.

During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, jurors heard the child was in the sole care of 26-year-old Neill when they were injured on May 26.

As reported, emergency services were called to the Branksome area of Darlington to reports of an unresponsive child and the youngster was taken to hospital for emergency surgery for a fractured skull.

The jury heard how multiple other injuries were discovered while the child was fighting for their life, including broken wrists, a fractured jaw and bruising to the face and body, which were inflicted in the weeks leading up to the head injury.

It took jurors less than two hours to convict the pair after hearing how the toddler was left fighting for their life after falling unconscious.

Cave, of Waltham Close, Darlington, was found guilty of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

And Neill, 26, of Yarm Road, Darlington, was found guilty of causing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

They are due to sentenced by Judge Jonathan Carroll from 2pm.
