‘He is a goon and a criminal’: Vinesh Phogat’s sharp attack on Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

NEW DELHI: Congress leader and wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, calling him a “goon and a criminal” and accusing the BJP of backing him despite allegations of sexual harassment levelled by women wrestlers.Phogat, a former World Championship bronze medallist and Asian Games gold medallist, made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Jind on the sidelines of a political programme. Her comments came amid her continued criticism of Singh, who was at the centre of a high-profile wrestlers’ protest in 2023.“Who is Brij Bhushan? Forget about him. He is a goon and a criminal. Why should we give so much respect to that man?” Phogat said. She also questioned Singh’s influence and alleged that people in his political stronghold of Gonda had suffered because of him. Phogat further raised questions about his wealth and alleged land encroachment.“How many people have been troubled in Gonda? How much land has he encroached upon? We will fight this battle in the Supreme Court and take it forward. Where does he fly in helicopters? Where did all this money come from?” she said.

‘The BJP is supporting him’

Phogat, who won three Commonwealth Games gold medals, also alleged that Singh’s money and influence had been used to target women and accused the BJP of supporting him.“On the strength of money, atrocities are committed against girls. This is the reality of the BJP. The BJP is supporting him,” she said. The wrestler also drew a parallel between the treatment of protesting wrestlers in 2023 and the police action witnessed during recent protests.“Three years ago, the way the police behaved with us, we saw the same behaviour with our daughters at Jantar Mantar in Delhi,” Phogat said.

Fantasy Football Roundtable: Here are some of our favorite breakout candidates at QB for 2026

Published

on

In fantasy football, the QB position is easily the deepest player pool to choose from for managers. With that, we see a lot of year-over-year variance, QBs who are drafted later on jumping up into QB1 status by the end of the season. Four of our Yahoo analysts — Hayden Winks, Joel Smyth, Justin Boone and Ray Garvin — share their favorite QB breakout candidate for 2026.

It’s rare to have a QB’s WR1, WR2, WR3, TE1 and RB1 all go before him in fantasy football ADP, but that’s what is happening with Love. Either we are taking crazy pills with all of this Packers’ investment or Love is simply underpriced. I think the latter. Love is benefiting from a few things this upcoming season. First, his skill group is sick. I love Matthew Golden at cost as a sleeper and Tucker Kraft being back a month before the season is promising. Beyond that, the Packers are stressing more pace in practice and they followed that up by quickly breaking the huddle and snapping the ball in preseason action last week. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they passed more with Josh Jacobs’ status and this new quicker-paced offense, and more dropbacks mean more fantasy points. On that, Love has been extremely efficient for years (see below), but the Packers have been too conservative for him to break into the top-10 fantasy mix. The defense looks rough early on without Micah Parsons, and the early schedule includes games with the Vikings, Jets, Falcons, Bears, Cowboys, Lions and Panthers. — Hayden Winks

Here's a look at how Love stacks up in terms of EPA per dropback vs. success rate at the QB position.

Williams finished as the QB9 in PPG last season and is now being drafted as the QB8 on Yahoo. For a Year 3 quarterback, the combination of floor and upside looks incredible. He’s flawed; his second season had plenty of missed throws down the field, but his natural playmaking ability and offense easily overcomes it. Keep in mind, this is only his second season in the offense and third overall in the NFL, often where the most offseason growth occurs for a QB. Williams has every ingredient of a great fantasy QB: Coaching, offensive line, weapons, scrambling, an aggressive passing style, all on an offense that will likely be in shootouts or as Ben Johnson loves, merciless blowouts. He already was a 20-PPG scorer in the second half of last season and can take it to the next level this year. — Joel Smyth

You can define a breakout player a lot of ways, but to me it should be someone who hasn’t had a complete season as a fantasy star yet. The breakout occurs the year they finally put it all together and become a difference-maker. There are a few players who fit that criteria in 2026, but Willis is the kind of dual-threat QB fantasy managers used to steam up draft boards. The 27-year-old rediscovered his game as a backup on the Packers the last two seasons. During that time, he made three relief starts where he posted rushing totals of 41, 60, and 73 yards while averaging a touchdown per outing on the ground.

Unsurprisingly, he finished as a top-seven fantasy QB in two of those three contests. The Dolphins were impressed enough to sign him to a three-year, $67.5 million contract this offseason. Though Willis’ path to fantasy relevance will come thanks to his skills as a runner, there’s also untapped upside here through the air, if any of his pass-catchers other than De’Von Achane step up. The positive reports around Malik Washington, as well as third-round rookies Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell provides some hope for this passing attack. Don’t be surprised at all if Willis flirts with low-end fantasy QB1 numbers, even if it might not always look pretty. — Justin Boone

Jaxson Dart is one of my favorite breakout bets at quarterback this fall because I think the usage is going to be there in a major way. You’re talking about a head coach who just spent years with Lamar Jackson. No, Dart isn’t Lamar as a runner. Relax. This offense is going to flow through the quarterback. And Dart can do major damage with his legs. He’s getting Malik Nabers back, the Giants upgraded the weapons around him and I expect them to lean into everything Dart does well instead of asking him to sit in the pocket and play boring football. That rushing production gives him a fantasy floor with a legitimate winning weekly ceiling. Yes, the trips to the blue tent concern me. They should. But let’s also remember he’s only been diagnosed with one concussion. At the price you’re paying right now, I’ll gladly bet on the talent, rushing upside and potential volume. The ceiling is way higher than the cost. — Ray Garvin

Real Madrid officially presents Jose Mourinho in a closed-door ceremony

Published

on

MADRID — In an unusual ceremony closed to the media and fans, Real Madrid officially presented coach Jose Mourinho on Tuesday.

The event took place at the club’s headquarters in Madrid, with president Florentino Perez welcoming the coach.

The only images of the presentation were provided by Real Madrid TV and the club’s website and social media accounts.

“I’m one of you,” Mourinho said in a message to fans in a video released by the club. “And not just today, but since I arrived in 2010 and after I left in 2013, always with you. … To return to Real Madrid is to return home.”

Madrid said the coach was signed for three seasons until June 30, 2029.

After the signing, Madrid said Mourinho received a replica of the stadium, a watch and a jersey with his name.

Madrid has been revamped after a second consecutive season without a major title. In addition to Mourinho, who replaced Alvaro Arbeloa, the club also brought in players such as Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva and Yan Diomande.

Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham will lead the squad again as it tries to keep Barcelona from winning a third straight La Liga title.

Mourinho was hired in June and officially took over in July at the start of the pre-season.

He is back for a second stint with Madrid some 13 years after he left the club. He was in charge from 2010-13, winning a Spanish league and a Copa del Rey. He was more remembered for his confrontational personality that ended up splitting his own squad and alienating all but the most hardcore fans, as well as a large part of the local media.

If you pick the wrong people, you can get into trouble

Published

on

Former captain Ian Chappell has hit out at Australia’s selectors after the hosts suffered an unexpected nine-wicket wicket loss against Bangladesh in the first Test in Darwin. Chappell opined Australia made some poor selection calls for the opening Test against Bangladesh and paid the price for the same.

Following the shocking defeat to Bangladesh in Darwin, Australia have dropped opener Jake Weatherald for the second Test and have handed a comeback to Matt Renshaw. Marnus Labuschagne, however, survived the axe despite scoring only 32 runs in the first Test. The second match of the series against Bangladesh starts in Mackay from August 22.

Speaking to nine.com.au, Chappell questioned the thought process behind Australia’s selection choices and commented:

“If you pick the wrong people in the first place, you can get into trouble. With their selections, they have shown to me that they do not understand things very well. To me, it is the selectors who’ve got themselves into this problem. Now they have got to try and find a way out. But I am not convinced that they’re good enough to find a way out.”

In six Test matches, Weatherald has scored 224 runs at an average of 20.36, with just one fifty. As for Labuschagne, he hasn’t scored a Test ton since 2023. In 15 innings last year, he scored 271 runs at an average of 20.84 and, in four innings this year, he has managed 117 runs.

“He is there to make centuries, and you are batting him at seven” – Chappell on Australian all-rounder Beau Webster

Chappell also lashed out at the team management for batting all-rounder Beau Webster at the No. 7 position. Pointing out to his impressive record with the willow, he opined:

“He is there to make centuries, and you are batting him at seven. What is that?

Asked about Victoria’s upcoming stars Campbell Kellaway and Oliver Peake, the 82-year-old replied that they are not ready for Test cricket. He said:

“I think Kellaway and Peake have got talent, but are they ready? I’m not too sure about that. If you look at their Shield record, averages in the 20s should not get you into an Australian side.”

Kellaway has an average of 31.52 from 44 first-class games, while Peake averages 26 from 14 first-class matches.
