The major retailer has set its sights on a new location in Cambridgeshire

Peterborough could welcome a new major high street retailer to the city. AS Watson, the world’s largest international health and beauty retailer, has submitted an application to Peterborough City Council for the use of a unit at Brotherhood Shopping Park.

The retailer owns and operates health and beauty chain Superdrug. Planning documents indicate that a new internally illuminated fascia sign would display the chain Superdrug, if the plans are approved.

The plans seek permission for a new flex-faced light box at high level, an internally illuminated fascia sign above the door, LED light goalpost and DDA compliant window manifestations at unit B1. Brotherhood Shopping Park in Walton, Peterborough, houses several stores including Next, Mamas & Papas, TK Maxx, and Poundland.

The major retailer already operates stores in Serpentine Green Shopping Centre and Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough. Serpentine Green is located just a 10-minute drive from Brotherhood Shopping Park meanwhile, Queensgate Shopping Centre is about seven minutes away by car.

This planning application comes after the health and beauty chain revealed plans to open 30 new stores this year, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to the UK retail sector. The retailer said the expansion of its store footprint will create around 600 jobs across the UK.

The Croydon-based business, which was founded in 1964, currently runs more than 780 shops across the UK and Ireland. Superdrug previously said it will continue to invest particularly in “large-format destination stores and retail park locations”.

The Fight Club actress, 60, wore a memorable combo of clashing prints while out and about in Hampstead with the art historian, 38, on Tuesday.

The couple, who have been an item since 2018, were seen walking their dogs, with Bonham Carter’s signature quirky style on display.

The actress donned a green cardigan over a green long-sleeved blouse, with a red floral skirt and a pair of chunky trainers with thick socks to top the look off. Holmboe cut a more neutral figure in a light blue shirt, blue shorts and Birkenstocks.

Bonham Carter and Holmboe first went public with their romance in 2019, five years after she split from her long-term partner and director Tim Burton.

Prior to their first public appearance, the Alice in Wonderland actress had admitted it was time to find love again when she realised she was ‘bored’ of grieving her former relationship and that Holmboe became ‘a bit of unexpected magic’ in her life.

She told Harper’s Bazaar: ‘You break up, you grieve, you get bored of grieving. And then you finally move on.’

Speaking of Holmboe, she added: ‘I’m very happy with someone else. It’s been a bit of unexpected magic in my life.’

The couple met at a wedding in 2018 and moved in together in 2021, with Bonham Carter telling The Guardian of their meeting: ‘A totally random thing, which both of us nearly didn’t go to, so it was one of those moments that was so chance and ended up determining so much.

‘A really happy accident, and it’s an amazing thing.’

Bonham Carter previously told The Times of their age gap: ‘Everybody ages at a different rate. My boyfriend is unbelievably mature. He’s an old soul in a young body; what more could I want?

‘People are slightly frightened of older women, but he isn’t. Women can be very powerful when they’re older.’

Bonham Carter and the Edward Scissorhands director were together for 13 years and she has described the end of their relationship as ‘utterly bewildering’. They share two children, Billy, 22, and Nell, 18. 

The 60-year-old starred in several Burton films over the years, including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, The Corpse Bride and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

An application from Nationwide Building Society to install a defibrillator and bleed kit on the side of its Parliament Street branch have been withdrawn.

City of York Council planning officers stated they would take no further action on the plans after being notified of the decision.

It comes after Nationwide lodged the plans to install the St John’s Ambulance kits in May.

The building society stated the plans were part of its commitment to support local communities with rapid access to vital emergency equipment whenever it is needed.

Plans stated: “These cabinets are potentially life-saving.

“The cabinets are located on the branches parliament street facing elevation as to be in a prominent location where they can easily be seen and, at a height where they can be reached in case they are needed in an emergency.”

Defibrillators are designed to help people who have gone into cardiac arrest while bleed kits contain equipment to stem catastrophic blood loss.

Each cabinet would have been made using ‘double-skin’ construction and feature a heater and air circulation fan to stop them from freezing and prevent condensation.

The cabinets were also designed to be resistant to corrosion and impact and the front of them is made out of polycarbonate, the same material used in riot shields.

Outside lighting was planned to make them visible at night along with metal hinges and security fixes to protect them from vandalism and damage.

The proposed defibrillators would have joined nine others already in York city centre, according to the website Defibfinder.

Lives have been left hanging in the balance in Emmerdale and jaws are no doubt on the floor as Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Dawn Taylor’s (Olivia Bromley) wedding day has ended in tragedy.

Joe was astonished as he came to realise that Caleb Miligan (William Ash) had plotted to destroy everything he holds dear by masterminding a plan that saw bride-to-be Dawn scarper on their big day.

Dawn had been misled by Caleb, Ruby (Beth Cordingly) and Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle), who allowed her to believe that Joe was responsible for the brutal attack on ex Billy earlier this year.

When Billy, who is still harbouring feelings for Dawn, came to realise that Kev Barton (Chris Coghill) was the one who assaulted him, he refrained from informing Dawn, desperate to get her away from villainous Joe.

Dawn, however, began to question Billy’s story in the car on the way to their new adventure and, as the lie collapsed, she was utterly floored, horrified at Billy for withholding the truth

She swiftly returned to the village, donned her wedding gown and headed for the marquee, where she begged Joe to forgive her for believing he was capable of attacking Billy, urging him to marry her.

But before she got her answer, tragedy struck as Jimmy King (Nick Miles) drove through the marquee, sending both Dawn and Joe flying to opposite sides. The three characters were unconscious at the conclusion of the episode.

Dawn and Joe are trapped in the ruins of the marquee while Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) discovers that her husband Jimmy is in a life-threatening situation – with the threat of an explosion looming.

Will they all make it out alive?

Outside, a crowd gathers nearby, with pictures confirming Kim Tate (Claire King), Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), Kammy Haddiq (Shebz Miah), Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Nicola all witnessing what happens next.

A wave of shock and horror descends upon the characters in question as they figure out what has transpired.

But will they be able to help? And will any tragedies befall the eponymous village?

Later in the week, DS Ramsden arrives at the scene to investigate – and a wave of resentment appears to be driving her.

Blake Lively will receive $400,000 in legal fees from Justin Baldoni in their bitter court battle – after demanding an eye-watering $8 million following their bombshell settlement, the Daily Mail can reveal.

In a final humiliation for the actress on Wednesday, a judge in New York ruled that the actress will be awarded just 5 percent of the amount she sought to recoup for defending herself against Baldoni’s $400 million defamation lawsuit.

The judge said that the number of hours that Lively had billed for her lawyers was ‘unreasonable’ and criticized the ‘discrepancies’ in the expenses she was trying to claim. 

The court ruling comes months after the same judge threw out most of the claims in Lively’s sexual harassment case against her It Ends With Us co-star and they agreed to settle the case with no money changing hands. 

Judge Lewis Liman had previously dismissed Baldoni’s $400 million defamation countersuit against Lively, but he did allow her to seek legal fees solely related to defending that action.

In an order obtained by the Daily Mail, Judge Lewis Liman ruled: ‘The clerk of court is respectfully directed to enter judgment for Lively in the amount of $363,245.40 in attorneys’ fees and $44,206.35 in costs’. 

Justin Baldoni had previously rejected Blake Lively’s demand for $8.3 million in legal fees, with his attorneys describing the demands as ‘deeply flawed’

The total award amounts to $407,451.75 – a fraction of the $8 million she originally demanded in June. 

Lively had claimed Baldoni owed her $7,495,526.87 in legal fees and $539,514.01 in costs that she accumulated in 10 months from fighting his countersuit before it was dismissed. 

But Judge Liman appears to have agreed with Baldoni’s lawyers that some of the sums Lively was seeking were ‘excessive’ and ‘exorbitant,’ as they claimed in legal filings. 

In his 21-page ruling, Judge Liman said that both sides ‘have waged (a) fierce battle against each other in court.’ 

Judge Liman said that the hourly rate charged by attorneys for Lively and Baldoni was ‘not unreasonable’ as the case presented ‘substantial financial and reputational risks’ to both sides.

But the ‘number of hours for which Lively seeks reimbursement is unreasonable,’ the judge stated, noting Lively did not actually submit the invoices to the court and instead submitted forms outlining the payments.

It Ends with Us earned $148 million in domestic box office and $350 million globally, but whatever goodwill the film garnered was overshadowed by the allegations made by its stars

Judge Liman said that Baldoni’s lawyers had ‘identified a series of flaws in the [Lively] records that are illustrative of broader discrepancies and deficiencies in the fees schedule.’

The billing records for internal communications were ‘vaguely described’ and didn’t identify the work that was performed, the ruling stated.

Judge Liman also rejected Lively’s demand to be reimbursed for the cost to her PR team because ‘media relations were not integral to defending the defamation claim brought against Lively,’ according to the ruling. 

In a statement released following the order on Wednesday, Lively’s lawyers Esra Hudson and Michael Gottlieb said: ‘Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties lost their meritless retaliatory $400 million lawsuit, which two different courts held was designed to stifle public criticism and silence Blake Lively and others.

‘This first-ever award of fees and costs under this California law is historic, and demonstrates that there are real consequences of bringing retaliatory lawsuits.

‘As we have said from day one, Blake Lively’s case was never about money – it was about accountability.

‘Blake Lively’s lawsuit exposed an industry of secret online smear campaigns that largely target women, and unsurprisingly involve the same players. 

‘She lifted the curtain for other victims, and set the precedent for others to come forward and expose similar conduct. This result demonstrates that the legal system is not as easily manipulated as social media, and still functions as a force for accountability.’ 

Baldoni’s lawyer Brian Freedman told the Daily Mail: ‘The ruling is a significant victory for my clients and sends a clear message that, no matter how powerful you may be, the courtroom is not a place to take advantage of the law for your own personal gain.’

Lively first sued Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios production company in December 2024 for alleged sexual harassment on the set of the movie, and defamation.

Baldoni responded the following month with a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and the New York Times, which was the first to publish her claims.

In October 2025, a judge dismissed Baldoni’s case and in May this year, after a judge dismissed most of Lively’s claims, she agreed to settle her claim.

But the legal battle didn’t end there. 

Weeks later, Lively filed court documents seeking to recoup her legal expenses from the drawn-out lawsuit. 

Last month, court filings revealed just how much she was demanding: $4,544,094 from Willkie Farr & Gallagher and $2,951,432 from Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, two high-profile law firms.

However, the final bill would have been $300,000 higher because of costs related to a subsequent hearing on June 1, bringing it to $8.3 million.

Court documents previously revealed that Lively’s lawyers charged $155 for a six-minute phone call and $1,400 for an attorney staying one night at a five-star hotel. 

In legal papers, Wilkie describes itself as a ‘premier international law firm’ with 1,300 lawyers in 16 offices around the country.

Lively’s lead lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, states that he charges $2,795 an hour but gave Lively a ‘discounted’ rate of $2,187.

In total, he billed 224 hours or $457,000 and he was one of a number of attorneys engaged in the case.

Such fees are ‘reasonable,’ Gottlieb claimed at the time, adding that Lively had paid her bills ‘in full.’

In another filing, Lively’s lawyers claimed that Baldoni’s legal team employed ‘scorched-earth litigation tactics designed to drain Lively’s resources’.

As a result, she had to seek ‘frequent relief from the court to reign [sic] in their abusive behavior,’ claimed the filings signed by lawyer Esra Hudson on behalf of both law firms.

In response, Baldoni’s lawyer Ellyn Garofalo said in court filings last month that it was ‘excessive’ to claim $7,070,20 in billable hours.

She argued that the schedules of costs from Lively were ‘extremely overinclusive and deeply flawed’ and included work by 82 people.

Lively’s lawyers spent an ‘exorbitant amount of time conferring internally’ and were ‘inefficient,’ the filing stated.

Baldoni’s legal team had argued that any fees awarded should be seriously reduced based on multiple factors.

‘Lively does not provide billing statements or other records to support her $7.5 million demand, much less allocate fees to her defense of Wayfarer’s defamation claim,’ attorneys for Baldoni told the court at the time. 

Other key factors Baldoni’s team cited in their filing were Lively’s inability to prove that the total was based on reasonable hours and rates; a lack of evidence to support her claims; and misguided calculations as to fees that can or cannot be recovered.

Baldoni’s attorneys said that Lively was also asking for ‘a whopping $539,514.01 in costs and expenses without providing evidence to substantiate the costs or attribute them to tasks covered by Section 47.1.’

‘In sum, Lively fails to meet her burden to present credible evidence showing that the fees and costs she seeks to recover are reasonable and, accordingly, her fee motion should be denied in its entirety,’ Baldoni’s lawyers said in the filing.

The jury in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial has finished hearing all the evidence from the prosecution and defense as they prepare to hear closing arguments.

The state rested it’s case on Wednesday after five grueling weeks, finishing with testimony from forensic psychiatrist Dr. Gregory Saathoff. ‘You’ve heard all the evidence,’ judge William R Sullivan told the court. 

A total of 18 jurors, compromising of 12 women and six men, will hear closing arguments on Thursday morning before they are asked to decide Clancy’s fate.  

Clancy, 36, strangled her children Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, to death at her Duxbury, Massachusetts in January 2023.

The former labor and delivery nurse is charged with first-degree murder, but defense lawyers call for the jury to consider involuntary manslaughter as well as second degree murder. 

Clancy has admitted to killing her children but pleaded not guilty to murder by reason of insanity, citing postpartum psychosis, and is seeking to be committed to a state mental health facility rather than face a prison sentence.

Judge William Sullivan then excused the jury for the day.

‘You have heard all the evidence,’ he told the jury, but advised them to keep an open mind.

Sullivan ordered a lunch break, and when the court returns, the lawyers will go over the charges against Clancy.

Defense asks for jurors be able to consider acquittal based on inadequate police investigation

Kevin Reddington asked the judge for the jury to be allowed to consider acquitting Lindsay Clancy based on an inadequate police investigation.

‘It was no investigation,’ he said.

‘They basically accepted the fact that she strangled the children and moved on.’

He said that they didn’t test the window screen or the tumbler that she allegedly crushed pills into. He also said there are all sorts of questions about the blood spatter.

‘I could go on and on about the horrific investigation,’ he said.

Reddington asked the judge to remove instructions about voluntary intoxication.

‘Believe it or not, after five weeks, we agree,’ he joked, acknowledging the prosecution had the same requestion.

Reddington said he did not see any evidence to suggestion she voluntary took drugs that induced psychosis.

With the final witness now off the stand, the judge is holding a charging conference Wednesday to determine which lesser charges and legal instructions will be presented to the jury when deliberations begin.

The issue could prove pivotal for Clancy, whose defense argues that her mental state and the effects of medication used to treat her postpartum psychosis should give jurors a path to a lesser conviction.

Prosecutors, however, argue that she deliberately killed her children as part of a plan that involved sending her husband, Patrick Clancy, out on errands while she strangled the children in the basement before attempting to take her own life.

Clancy murder trial discusses suicide

Lindsay Clancy is accused of murdering her three children – Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan – in January 2023.

Although the 36-year-old does not deny killing her children, she has pleaded not guilty and claimed she is not responsible for her actions because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

On the day of the killings, Clancy asked her husband, Patrick Clancy, to leave their home to get takeout food and to pick up something at a pharmacy.

The former nurse strangled the children with exercise bands, then used multiple methods to try to end her own life.

She was paralyzed after falling from the home’s second-story window and is being held at a state hospital.

Behind the doors of the pre-Civil War psychiatric facility, the former nurse who once cared for her own patients has become the patient herself.

There, confined to a wheelchair, she receives round-the-clock care for her physical and mental health, following what her defense says was a severe episode of postpartum psychosis and depression.

She used her success to become a true philanthropist.

Her Imagination Library, started in 1995 and inspired by her father’s inability to read, is fantastic.

It has distributed 300m books to children aged under five, including six million here in the UK, of which 15,700 have gone to 3,000 who have been born in Newcastle since last year.
