Dubai International Airport (DXB) has warned passengers of widespread flight delays and cancellations as unstable weather conditions continue to affect travel across the UAE.

In a statement posted on X via its official account @DXB, Dubai Airports said: “Due to adverse weather, some flights are delayed or cancelled and there is water accumulation on some roads. Please allow extra time to reach #DXB or use the @rta_dubai Metro.”

The disruption comes amid forecasts of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and possible fog across the country. The National Centre of Meteorology said unstable conditions linked to the Al Bashayer low-pressure system are expected to persist through Friday morning, with further rain possible over the weekend.

Dubai Airports said the adverse weather has created significant operational challenges since early Friday, affecting both flight schedules and access to the airport. Passengers were advised to check the status of their flights directly with airlines or via the airport’s official flight status website before travelling.

A check of DXB’s flight status page early on December 19 showed numerous delayed and cancelled services involving airlines such as Emirates, flydubai, flynas and Royal Jordanian. Several international carriers, including Turkish Airlines, Saudia, Kuwait Airways and Qatar Airways, were also affected.

The disruptions have stranded both departing and arriving passengers, led to missed connections and caused congestion inside terminals as flight schedules changed repeatedly throughout the day.

Emirates, the largest operator at DXB, confirmed widespread disruption and cancelled multiple services scheduled for Friday as weather conditions continued to impact Dubai and surrounding regions. Other airlines reported knock-on delays due to aircraft and crew scheduling challenges.

Road conditions have also been affected, with reports of water accumulation on some access routes to the airport. Transport authorities have encouraged travellers to allow additional travel time and to use public transport where possible.

Dubai Police have issued safety advisories urging motorists to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert as heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning continue to reduce visibility in parts of the UAE.

Authorities said they are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will issue further updates as weather conditions evolve.
