Christine Taylor Was Asked to Lose 10 Lbs for Brady Bunch Movie

Published

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

Christine Taylor is looking back at her journey to The Brady Bunch.

“The one [audition note] that I got, and I was not a super heavy person, but they asked me to lose 10 pounds,” Taylor, 55, claimed on the Tuesday, September 1, episode of the “Office Ladies” podcast, acknowledging that it was “a very different time” in Hollywood that “would never happen today.”

Taylor famously portrayed eldest daughter Marcia Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie and A Very Brady Sequel. (Maureen McCormick played Marcia in the original series, which preceded the two feature-length films.)

Going into her Brady audition, Taylor was admittedly receptive to the feedback.

“They wanted me to lose 10 pounds, but it didn’t matter. I was like, ‘I’ll lose 10 pounds,’” she stated. “Of course, I was embarrassed when that ask came my way … I wasn’t the only person that was asked to lose weight for a role back then. That was just how things went.”

According to Taylor, she started to regain her weight during production.

“The joke is, over the course of the movie, if you watch it very closely, I start to put 10 pounds back on, and you can see it,” she quipped, stifling a laugh. “I’ll come into a scene looking a little rounder, and then, like, I exit the scene looking a little thinner, just because of how they had to reshoot things. Over the course of the movie, I started to treat myself [and] non-fat frozen yogurt was the craze at the time, and that was my treat.”

Even so, Taylor was grateful for the opportunity as a major fan of the OG series.

“I knew it, in my core, that there was nobody who could do it better,” she added. “It was so important for me to do it in a way that was not making fun because I loved it so much. I didn’t look at the shows and say, ‘This is ridiculous. This is so funny [and] this is how I’m going to parody this.’ I love it so much, I want it to be so pure and so genuine and so Maureen, and that is how I approached it.”

Taylor has previously been candid about her Brady Bunch tenure.

“I remember thinking I would have done this movie for free. Truly,” the actress exclusively told Us in 2023. “I would have paid them to be in the movie. But the desperation of my agents to get me that job, like, ‘Yes! Everyone is getting $2,500.’”

Taylor Frankie Paul on Hooking Up With Dakota After Engagement

Everything to Know So Far About ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Season 5

Taylor Frankie Paul is owning up to her mistakes!

News broke on Thursday, September 3, that the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star, 32, did indeed get engaged on her unaired season of The Bachelorette — and then hooked up with ex Dakota Mortensen after returning home from filming.

Taylor opened up about the incident with her Mormon Wives costars Jessi Draper, Mikayla Matthews and Mayci Neeley in a scene filmed for the show’s upcoming fifth season, an exclusive clip of which was shared by Hulu’s “Get Real” podcast on Thursday.

Later on Thursday, Taylor took to Instagram to share a screenshot from the scene alongside an audio of someone saying, “Yeah, listen… we f***ed up.”

“What my calls sounded like when I had to admit what I had done.. and then some. And when I say we, I mean me. By all means make your judgements now,” she captioned the post.

Taylor also teased that there may be a bigger revelation to come when Mormon Wives season 5 premieres on Hulu on Thursday, September 10.

“Yeah, listen, I’ll just say it now … the ‘spoiler’ released today wasn’t even the spoiler that’s yet to come,” she wrote over the screenshot.

Speaking to Jessi, Mikayla and Mayci in the scene from the upcoming season, Taylor confirmed that one of her Bachelorette suitors did “get down on one knee and propose.”

MomTok will be back on the screen for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season 5. The series, which premiered on Hulu in 2024, introduced fans to Jen Affleck and husband Zac Affleck, Demi Engemann and husband Bret Engemann, Whitney Leavitt and husband Conner Leavitt, Mikayla Matthews and husband Jace Terry, Mayci Neeley and husband […]

“[I said,] ‘Yes.’ Yes, I did [get engaged],” she said. “Then, I come home. Obviously [me and ex Dakota] were texting. ‘When are you going to be home?’ I don’t know how it led to it, but he came over.”

“Umm … I think I know how that happened,” Mikayla, 26, responded.

While Taylor didn’t reveal the name of the Bachelorette suitor she got engaged to, she essentially confirmed that it was Doug Mason during the conversation. Jessi, 34, noted the similarities between Doug and Dakota, telling Taylor, “They have the same initials. They’re both from Idaho. It’s so weird.”

Taylor has recently been embroiled in custody disputes with Dakota, 33, and ex-husband Tate Paul over her three children. The reality star shares daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 6, with Tate and son Ever, 2, with Dakota.

Dakota was awarded temporary custody of Ever in March, but in July, a judge ruled in favor of Taylor receiving more unsupervised time with the toddler. She and Dakota also have mutual protective orders against each other, which require them to stay 100 feet apart for a period of three years.

Even celebrities can fall victim to overgrown roots – and believe it or not, there isn’t always a stylist on hand to fix them. This is the situation Bethenny Frankel recently found herself in and, fortunately for Us, she was willing to share the hair care product that helped her effortlessly transform her hair color all on her own.

The product Frankel used was the dpHUE Root Touch-Up Kit, a customer favorite that costs only $37 — definitely less than what you might pay at a salon for a touch-up. The kit is designed to make at-home coloring easy and fast, so you can extend the time between salon visits.

Frankel tried the touch-up kit in a recent TikTok video, showing how simple it was to use and sharing her impressive results. In fact, they were so good that the reality star declared it the “best hair color I’ve ever done in my life.”

Bethenny Frankel might be in her 50s, but her glowing skin makes her look half her age. So when she calls out one of her go-to skincare products, we listen closely. This week, the Skinnygirl founder shared the facial cleanser she’s been loving, stating, “I think I have found my favorite cleanser.” The product in […]

The dpHUE Root Touch-Up Kit is an at-home permanent hair dye kit designed to cover up to one inch of root growth, making it perfect for the tricky stage between salon visits, when you’re just starting to notice your color needs a refresh. It uses a professional low-ammonia hair color that is free of parabens, sulfates, SLS and SLES and is perfectly safe to use over existing color.

The touch-up kit is available in six shades, so you can find the one that works best with your hair color. While it’s not meant to be an all-over option, it blends seamlessly with your color to cover roots and stray gray hairs. And according to Frankel, it “has the feeling and smell of just at the salon.”

The hair color product also comes with everything you need to do it yourself, including step-by-step instructions and the other products needed. It makes the process a breeze even if you’ve never tried anything like it before. Plus, it includes enough product that you can use everything twice.

In her TikTok video, Frankel shows herself applying the product to wet hair the day before a photoshoot, then drying it to reveal the impressive results. “I am flipping out,” she says in the video. “I can’t believe this is real. I just did it myself.”

The Skinnygirl founder isn’t the only one who is blown away by this touch-up kit. “This is the first and last at-home permanent color kit I would ever use,” one Amazon shopper wrote in a review. “It really covers roots beautifully and helps for about four weeks in-between salon visits.”

“Love how the color takes to my hair and how soft it feels,” another reviewer wrote. “I’ve saved myself a lot of money doing my roots on my own. Definitely worth it!”

Take it from Frankel: this root touch-up kit will leave your strands soft, shiny and refreshed. And for just under $40, it’s a steal compared to two salon visits. Add this to your cart now and thank yourself later.

Witney Carson Shades AJ Pritchard Fiancee Over Rylee Arnold?

Published

on

Rylee-Arnold-178871_FM2_0159

Dancing With the Stars fans are speculating whether Witney Carson’s recent TikTok video is aimed at DWTS: The Next Pro contestant AJ Pritchard’s fiancée, Zara Zoffany.

In a Wednesday, September 2, TikTok, Witney, 32, lip-synced to an audio of someone saying, “And you sound like you should shut the f*** up,” while Jan, 31, lip-synced, “God bless.”

“The most unhinged pros just trying to keep the peace y’all – just doing our part,” the DWTS professional dancer captioned the clip.

In the comments, fans questioned whether the video was directed at Zara, 32, who recently criticized DWTS pro Rylee Arnold’s feedback regarding AJ, 31, on the semifinal episode of The Next Pro. (Rylee made a guest appearance on the episode, dancing with AJ, and later told the judges that she felt AJ was too critical during their rehearsals.)

Dancing With the Stars pro Rylee Arnold is grateful for the support of her community after facing backlash for her The Next Pro appearance. “I love you all so very much,” Rylee, 21, captioned TikTok footage of herself bedazzling makeup containers on Friday, August 27, alongside troupe dancer Carter Williams, who replied, “Us just bedazzling […]

“Directed right at you AJ and Zara,” commented one fan on Witney’s video.

Another noted the connection between Witney and Rylee, 21, who is the younger sister of Witney’s BFF and former DWTS pro Lindsay Arnold.

“Her best friends little sister… I KNOW Whitney is about to throw hands 😂,” wrote the fan.

Zara also reacted to the speculation after a fan commented on her TikTok video posted on Wednesday that “Witney and Jan’s TikTok was about u babe 🥰.”

“I love that for me 😮‍💨🔥,” she responded.

On Monday, August 31, Zara apologized for previous comments she made about Rylee. After the Next Pro semifinal aired, Zara claimed in a social media comment directed at Rylee that AJ “wouldn’t have had to critique you in the first place if everything had been right.” She also alleged that AJ suffered a concussion during rehearsals with Rylee.

In Monday’s TikTok video, Zara said that she was frustrated by the “constant online videos” about AJ, “about his sexuality [and] about our relationship” since The Next Pro began, describing the reaction to AJ from viewers as overly “negative.”

“So when I got to the Rylee edit, I was already up to here with how they’ve perceived him with the villain edit, with all the criticism, all the comments, all the TikToks,” she said.

“So I just want to say, if you are watching this, Rylee, from the bottom of my heart, I am truly sorry if I made you feel like a certain type of way. That was never my intention,” Zara said, addressing Rylee.

Neither Rylee nor AJ has commented on the situation.

On Wednesday, Witney, Rylee and Jan were all announced as returning pros for season 35 of Dancing With the Stars, joining Adele Zaikman, who defeated AJ in the Next Pro final on Monday to join the lineup.

Witney will dance with Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s Guillermo Rodriguez, while Rylee is paired up with Connor Wood, Jan will team with Tatyana Ali and Adele will dance with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives cast member Conner Leavitt.

Rebecca Ferguson’s ‘Silo’ Officially Reveals First Look at Its Fourth and Final Season

Published

silo-poster.jpg

There are few science fiction shows that buy into their mysteries and keep going and going with them to the point that you can’t wait to see what’s next. You know what does? Silo. What began with a few thousand survivors living underground and forbidden from discovering what was waiting outside has gradually revealed a much larger story surrounding the origins of the silos and the people responsible for them. Now, the end is officially in sight.

After the dual storylines came together in a shocking finale, Season 4 will have the considerable task of bringing the sprawling mystery surrounding the silos to an end. The series has always been building toward answers about why humanity was forced underground, who created the silos, and what really happened to the world outside, and with the explosive final two episodes bringing it all to a head, we can’t wait to see what’s next. A sneak peek at Season 4, which premieres next July, has given us a look at what’s to come.

The series features Rebecca Ferguson (Dune: Part Three), Common (Never Have I Ever) as Robert Sims, Harriet Walter (Succession) as Martha Walker, Tim Robbins (War of the Worlds) as Bernard Holland, Chinaza Uche (A Good Person) as Paul Billings, Avi Nash (The Walking Dead) as Lukas Kyle, and Shane McRae (The Bear) as Knox. The series is based on the books by Hugh Howey. Silo Season 3 currently holds a 96% Certified Fresh critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

What Can We Expect From Season 4 of ‘Silo’?

Silo creator Graham Yost spoke to Collider in the wake of the shocking finale, which saw Season 3’s dual headlines converge with a devastating twist. When Tania Hussain asked Yost about what questions we should be asking heading into Season 4, he said, “Why. I think that’s the big question. Why? And Bernard had an answer earlier on, I think in Episode 8, where Juliette says, ‘We’re going to risk everyone’s lives to do this?’ And he says, ‘Well, if we cap the Safeguard, then we can have a conversation. If they convince us of everything they’re doing,’ he says, ‘We’ll uncap the pipe, and we’ll drink the waters of oblivion if their reasons are good. But we have to be part of the conversation. We have to be told. We can’t just be ignorant and say, ‘Okay, kill us if you want.’’ So, what’s the why? That’s the big question of Season 4, and a big part of the end of Season 3 is to set that up, set up that here comes war.” He continued, saying:

“Helen, Drew, and Charlotte, we finally realized in the writers’ room, are the source of everything. The entire story started when Charlotte reached out to Helen and said, “I have concerns.” And it was that simple act of, “This doesn’t feel right. I don’t know what’s going on,” with this mission that they had planned. And so, it all comes back to that. So, Helen Drew is critical to why Juliette is able to do what Juliette is able to do. The other thing we find, you’ll see in Season 4, is you will see what happens to Helen and Troy.”

Silo Season 4 premieres July 9, 2027, on Apple TV. Stay tuned at Collider for more.

The “Big 3” of Gaming, Ranked

Published

on

Master Chief looking at his hologram companion Cortana in 'Halo Infinite'

The nature of business is competition, allowing for multiple companies to deliver their own goods and create a dynamic environment. This is true for anything, including video games, with plenty of studios aiming to deliver the best quality to ensure even better sales. For the most part, this approach has been going well, with titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Elden Ring becoming standout masterpieces of the modern age that push the medium forward. But even though there are thousands of game studios, there are also the big three, the juggernauts: Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo. These major companies are best known for releasing video game consoles each generation, and with them, dozens of video games each year.

The console wars used to be the biggest news in gaming, with these three companies, and a couple others, battling it out for supremacy. However, the console wars have long since ended, with each finding their niche in the following years. Everyone has their preferences and console of choice, which leads to buying hardware from any of these companies. They all have their flaws: PlayStation is ending physical releases, Nintendo is greedy and takes down fan games, and Xbox has constant layoffs. However, each has unique strengths, and that is why this list will rank the big three video game companies based on console history, video game history, quality, consistency, public opinion, lack of flaws, and overall quality. Fans should buy the consoles and games of their choice, but this list will be as objective as possible when determining the greatest video game company of all time.

3

Xbox

Image via Xbox

It may have placed last on this list, but the other way fans can take it is that the company placed third, and a podium finish is always good. Xbox was one of the later companies to join the console race, but they quickly established themselves as an innovative and fresh competitor. Starting with the original Xbox, they would continue their hot streak with the iconic Xbox 360. Later consoles, like the Xbox One and Xbox Series X, wouldn’t be as popular, but they still maintained a dedicated fan base. As far as games go, Xbox is best known for the Halo franchise, alongside Gears of War, Fable, and Forza. Their future is more uncertain than most, but they are still releasing games and have a planned console, with many hoping they will turn it around.

It shouldn’t really be a surprise that Xbox came last on this list, considering it had a shorter history than the other two, and it’s already failing more than them. Xbox is already changing its plan going forward, from getting rid of console exclusives to selling well-known IPs to laying off a lot of its talent. The Xbox One was fun, but not a smash hit, and the Xbox Series X is performing even worse. They haven’t been terrible in the games department, but their biggest new titles, like Fable, will be cross-platform, and their biggest franchise, Halo, hasn’t had a new game in years. Xbox is more of a legacy company; they used to be the best in the game with classic Halo games, Rare, Call of Duty, and Gears of War. With a lot of timed and fully exclusive games, they had a vast catalog that put many to shame back in the day. Unfortunately, Xbox has seen better days, and as they continue to fall, it is easy to place it at this spot on the list.

2

PlayStation

Deciding between the top two was extremely difficult, but ultimately, PlayStation ended up in the second spot. First released in 1994, PlayStation was an instant success, surpassing every expectation. This success would continue to the second, third, fourth, fifth, and portable versions, continuing to improve on the hardware and games. Their consoles have always been massively successful, and their games are just as profitable. They have had plenty of prestigious franchises, including God of War and The Last of Us, yet they also spice things up with a different vibe while maintaining the same quality, as was the case with Astro Bot, a beloved Game of the Year winner.

PlayStation has come under heavy criticism recently, ever since they announced that they will stop making physical games, meaning the digital age is finally upon fans. With a fully digital console and only downloadable games, PlayStation is taking a big risk to save costs, which will be fully implemented in its next generation. Whether it’s a good or bad decision is uncertain, but as far as it goes now, fans are livid, and rightfully so. Not only does it mean they can keep games more expensive, but players can no longer sell their used copies. Putting this tender topic aside, PlayStation has many positives, starting with their consoles, which always seem to be a must-buy for casual gamers. It is the essential piece of hardware for new games, proven by the fact that these titles are made exclusively for PlayStation; GTA VI being the most recent example. Recently, their first-party game situation has been dire, with only a couple of new games every year. However, the PS5 does have some incredible games. Historically, however, it is a different story. From Metal Gear Solid to Shadow of the Colossus and God of War, this company is home to some of the most essential video games. Recent news may have soured many opinions, but PlayStation is still PlayStation, and they have the sales and prestigious games to back up their name.

1

Nintendo

Every company that makes up the big three is both fantastic and awful in ways, but this list has determined that Nintendo is arguably the greatest. It’s probably a controversial opinion, but they have the longest history and the success to back it up. As opposed to Xbox and PlayStation, Nintendo didn’t start with video games, but was rather a hanafuda playing card producer that began all the way in 1889. Evolving to toys, then arcades, and finally video games, their legacy is steeped in a deep history. Their first console was the NES, home to legendary franchises such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. From overwhelming successes like the Wii and Switch to surprising failures like the Wii U and the GameCube, Nintendo has never been afraid to innovate and take risks. They have continued to do so even now, with the Nintendo Switch 2 having a polarizing, yet overall successful start.

With the longest history, Nintendo has had the most successes and failures in terms of sales and reception. Still, the games on every console, even the underperforming ones, are critically acclaimed. Their infamous lawyers, who sue anyone and everyone, including fan games and tournaments, are a blight on the company and a poor way to protect their intellectual property. Nintendo has also raised the prices of consoles and games higher than expected, which reminds fans of the perils of capitalism. Still, out of the three, Nintendo is the most user-friendly, boasting plenty of special deals and features for their games. The Wii and Switch in particular aren’t just some of the best-selling video game consoles, but they are the most innovative and important, blending intuitive motion controls and hybrid gaming, respectively. Beloved by most, these consoles are essential, but more than that, they are home to renowned video games. Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild are both widely considered among the all-time greatest video games ever made, and this just scratches the surface of historically influential titles. They are also known for their handheld consoles, which open more avenues with more games and franchises. However, what separates Nintendo from the rest isn’t just their creativity, accessibility, family focus, or amazing games, but the sheer quantity and quality of their titles. Each year provides around ten new first-party games, and every one caters to different tastes, meaning there is always something for everyone. Nintendo is a nostalgic company, and from the 1980s to the 2020s, they have always been part of everyone’s lives.

Alix Earle’s Show Ends With Surprise Braxton Berrios Cliffhanger

Published

on

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

Alix Earle and Braxton Berrios may be leaving the door open for a reconciliation down the line.

“I was just wondering … well, I just wanted to ask you a question,” Alix, 25, said while on the phone with Braxton, 30, in the season finale of Earle Meets World, streaming now on Netflix. “I know that when we broke up, you said that there was, like, no chance that we would ever get back together. And that was just, like, not an option.”

While Alix made the call, her sister Ashtin Earle and BFF Sally Carden listened from the doorway.

“But I feel like — I don’t know, it’s, like, in the back of my mind or something that I think about and I don’t know if it’s the healthiest for me that I still feel like there’s a possibility — or I don’t know,” Alix continued. “But I just wanted to know if you still feel the same way, like, 100 percent would never get back together. Even if it’s, like, a small percentage. Like, is that ever something that you think about?”

The NFL player paused for several seconds before replying, “Oh, Alix,” as the season came to an end with the surprise cliffhanger.

Alix and Braxton were together for two years before their split in 2025. She has since been linked to Tom Brady, with a source exclusively telling Us earlier this year that the pair were enjoying getting to know each other, “but it’s not serious.”

Ahead of the show’s release, Alix weighed in on whether filming Earle Meets World had any impact on her decision to be open about her personal life and date in the public eye.

“I mean, my life is always out there,” Alix exclusively told Us in August. “I think when it comes to dating and stuff, there’s moments where things are put out there before I necessarily would want them out there — and not that I’m dating anyone — but you’re standing next to someone and all of a sudden it’s a big story, and I think that’s hard to navigate.”

The Dancing With the Stars season 34 runner-up explained that she also makes an effort to “respect other people’s privacy,” adding, “So that’s been tricky. But I mean, well, I guess we’ll see what happens.”

Ashtin, meanwhile, told Us that she’s “used to being a very private person,” so being candid on the show was “fun.”

WHAT-HAPPENED-TO-DORIS

Heather Graham is about to have quite a spooky couple of months. On October 7, she’ll appear as part of the cast of Mike Flanagan‘s modernized Stephen King adaptation, Carrie, on Prime Video, playing the mother of vicious mean girl Chris Hargensen. Before that, however, the veteran actress of Boogie Nights and Drugstore Cowboy fame is taking on one of the most famous reported cases of paranormal activity in U.S. history. What Happened to Doris? makes its world premiere at the 21st iteration of Fantastic Fest this month and casts Graham as single mother Doris Bither, who was allegedly violently assaulted by an unseen entity in her Culver City home in 1974.

As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview series, we can share a new image from the horror flick that shows Graham looking deeply uncomfortable in her home. Knowing the reality of what happened there gives the wide shot of her alone at the table, pencil in hand, a sense of dread that this normal home could become a house of horrors at any moment. In the real-life case, also known as the Entity haunting, Bither claimed to have experienced torment from one or more invisible beings escalating to incidents of physical and sexual assault. Enter investigators from UCLA’s parapsychology department, who, over a ten-week period, repeatedly visited the home and documented a series of inexplicable and deeply terrifying events that ranged from reported poltergeist activity to strange, floating lights. Over the years, the findings and Bither’s claims have been subject to heavy scrutiny, though no conclusion has ever been officially reached.

What Happened to Doris? will re-explore the infamous case through the family’s eyes as the supernatural terror unfolds all around them and reckoning with the cost of refusing to believe the victim of it all. Nick Simon, who previously helmed the 2021 horror-comedy Untitled Horror Movie, directed the feature from a screenplay by Thomas Fenton, best known for his work on the story of Saw IV. The cast is led by a 1998 Lost in Space reunion, as Graham is joined by her fellow former Robinson and recent Bosch: Legacy star, Mimi Rogers. Also on board are Absentia alum Morgan Peter Brown, Smile‘s Kevin Keppy, and, in a re-team with Simon after co-writing and starring in Untitled Horror Movie, Luke Baines.

Camp Crystal Lake · Friday the 13th

Jason Voorhees

Jason is relentless, but he is also predictable — and that is the gap you would exploit.

  • He moves in straight lines toward his target. He doesn’t strategise, doesn’t adapt, doesn’t outsmart. He simply pursues.
  • Your ability to keep moving, use the environment, and resist the panic that freezes most victims gives you a genuine edge.
  • The Crystal Lake survivors were always the ones who stopped running in circles and started thinking about terrain, water, and distance.
  • You think like that. Which means Jason, for all his indestructibility, would face someone who simply refused to be where he expected.

Haddonfield, Illinois · Halloween

Michael Myers

Michael watches before he moves. He is patient, methodical, and almost impossible to detect — until it’s too late for anyone who isn’t paying close enough attention.

  • But you are paying attention. You notice the shape in the window, the car parked slightly wrong, the silence where there should be sound.
  • Michael’s power lies in the invisibility of ordinary suburbia — the fact that nothing ever looks wrong until it already is.
  • Your spatial awareness and instinct to map every room, every exit, and every shadow before you need them is precisely the quality Laurie Strode had.
  • You are not a victim waiting to happen. You are someone who already suspects something is wrong — and acts on it.

Elm Street · A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger

Freddy wins by getting inside your head — using your own fears, your own memories, your own subconscious as weapons against you. That strategy requires a target who can be destabilised.

  • You are harder to destabilise than most. You’ve faced uncomfortable truths about yourself and you haven’t looked away.
  • The survivors on Elm Street were always the ones who understood what was happening and chose to face it rather than flee from it.
  • Freddy’s greatest weakness is that his power evaporates in the presence of someone who refuses to give him the fear he feeds on.
  • Your psychological resilience — the ability to stay grounded when reality itself becomes unreliable — is exactly the quality that keeps you alive here.

Derry, Maine · It

Pennywise

Pennywise is ancient, shapeshifting, and feeds on terror — but it has one critical vulnerability: it cannot function against someone who genuinely stops being afraid of it.

  • The Losers Club didn’t survive because they were braver than everyone else. They survived because they faced their fears together, and faced them honestly.
  • You ask the questions others avoid. You look directly at what frightens you rather than turning away.
  • That directness — the refusal to let fear fester in the dark — is Pennywise’s worst nightmare.
  • It chose the wrong target when it chose you. You are exactly the kind of person whose fear tastes like nothing at all.

Chicago · Child’s Play

Chucky

Chucky’s greatest advantage is that nobody takes him seriously until it’s already too late. He exploits the gap between how something looks and what it actually is.

  • You don’t have that gap. You take threats seriously regardless of how they present — and you never make the mistake of underestimating something because of its size or appearance.
  • Chucky relies on surprise, on the delay between recognition and response. You close that delay faster than almost anyone.
  • Your instinct to treat every unfamiliar thing with appropriate scepticism — rather than dismissing it because it seems absurd — is the exact quality that keeps you breathing.
  • Against Chucky, not laughing is already winning. You are very good at not laughing.

‘What Happened to Doris?’ Builds on a Horror Legacy

WHAT-HAPPENED-TO-DORIS

The Bither case is already cemented in horror history thanks to Sydney J. Furie‘s 1982 film, The Entity, starring Barbara Hershey. Frank De Felitta adapted the screenplay to the supernatural classic from his own 1978 novel of the same name, which drew heavily on the real-life haunting. Just over ten years ago, it was also close to getting a remake with horror maestro James Wan and producer extraordinaire Roy Lee producing, but nothing ever came of it. While the framework will be similar to the book and film, What Happened to Doris? aims to more faithfully recreate the original story, focusing on the real people victimized and the researchers who found terror in the search for answers.

What Happened to Doris? will world premiere at Fantastic Fest, which runs from September 17 through 24 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, Texas. Check out our exclusive image above and stay tuned here at Collider for more early looks at the genre event’s hottest premieres. Visit the official Fantastic Fest film guide for more information.

3 Best New Netflix Movies to Watch This Labor Day Weekend

Published

on

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne in Neighbors

The Labor Day weekend is a great time to catch up on some movies you may have missed the first time around — or favorites you want to watch again.

Netflix has plenty of great films that fit that bill, and Watch With Us has three near-perfect flicks to stream over the long weekend.

If you want something fun, funny and frivolous, Neighbors does the trick. The Seth Rogen/Zac Efron comedy is popular for a reason, and it delivers enough laughs to make you forget about your own noisy neighbors.

There are no laughs in Cruel Intentions, only schemes, broken hearts courtesy of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s devious villain and late ‘90s needle drops that still hit that sweet nostalgic spot. (Shout out to The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony”!)

Finally, September is the unofficial start of spooky season, and what better way to begin it than by watching the excellent horror sequel, Smile 2?

‘Neighbors’ (2014)

It’s every homeowner’s worst fear — bad neighbors. And that nightmare becomes a reality for Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne), who are already at their wit’s end raising their newborn daughter. When bros Teddy (Zac Efron) and Pete (Dave Franco) and their fraternity move next door, their all-night partying is too much for the sleep-deprived war. But their innocuous request to Teddy to keep the noise down begins a slow-burning conflict that quickly spirals into all-out war between the two neighbors. Can Mac and Teddy find common ground, or will their differences prevent them from ever enjoying a beautiful — and quiet — day in their neighborhood?

Neighbors is the perfect comedy to watch over the Labor Day weekend. The jokes are universal and effortless, with a good mix of physical comedy and verbal wordplay. Plus, Rogen and Byrne are a good comedy team; to paraphrase a famous quote about Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Byrne gives him class, and Rogen gives her enough sex jokes to crack when you least expect it. As the alpha male next door, Efron has fun lampooning his heartthrob image. A slightly inferior yet still fun sequel, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, is also available to stream on Netflix.

‘Cruel Intentions’ (1999)

Cruel Intentions Cast Answer Burning Questions
Columbia Pictures/Getty Images

Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) has nothing in common with his new stepsister, Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar), except for one thing – they have no morals at all. That allows them to play cruel games on people like Cecile (Selma Blair), but when Kathryn bets Sebastian can’t seduce the virginal Annette (Reese Witherspoon), something changes. Sebastian actually falls in love with Annette, which isn’t part of Kathryn’s plans. She’s willing to do anything to get what she wants, even if that means exposing Sebastian for who he truly is to the gullible Annette.

A loose remake of the French 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Cruel Intentions is a sexy and deliberately campy teen drama that does its source material justice. Sebastian and Kathryn’s social scheming is perfect in a high school setting, and the film is the most fun when its two no-good protagonists try to one-up each other in the nasty department. Gellar makes the most of her villainous seductress, while Phillippe and Witherspoon have enough chemistry to make you believe they are a couple in real life. (They married two months after this film came out).

‘Smile 2’ (2024)

Naomi Scott in Smile 2.
Paramount

Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) is a pop star on the brink of falling apart. She’s still recovering from her boyfriend’s death in a car accident when she witnesses her drug dealer friend, Lewis (Lukas Gage), kill himself right in front of her. If that wasn’t bad enough, Skye thinks Lewis passed along something to her when he died — something evil. As Skye’s sanity begins to fracture, she becomes increasingly convinced an entity is stalking her and won’t stop until she, too, kills herself.

Of course, we all know Skye is right — she’s the star of Smile 2, the sequel to the 2022 hit about a supernatural entity that can transfer from person to person. Like any good sequel, Smile 2 raises the stakes, with Skye battling the invisible demonic force in increasingly public places like meet-and-greets and even a climactic concert filled with thousands of fans — and potential victims. What makes Smile 2 truly special — and even better than the original — is Scott’s committed, go-for-broke performance. She really convinces you she’s losing her mind, so much so that you want to check on how she’s doing after the film is over. Now that’s good acting!

From there, she went on to explain that the past week had been “one of the hardest weeks” of her life. Furthermore, she explained that she’s spent “every day” fighting a “horrible kidney infection and appendicitis.”

“I want to say it came out of nowhere, but the truth is, I haven’t felt like myself for months. Weight loss, exhaustion, constantly feeling off… and then last Friday, my body finally said, ‘We aren’t making it like this anymore,’” she continued.

At that point, she acknowledged that the first-day routine with her kids wasn’t normal. But they do have a memory they will never forget.

“What I am going through is temporary. For some families, something happened this summer that may have changed their lives forever. Our first-day picture looks a little different this year, but we have one. And right now, I’m incredibly grateful for that. ❤️ Here’s to a new school year. May our kids be safe, successful, and above all else… kind,” she concluded.
