Con Hathy printed a stubby PETG rocket named Spark, loaded an Estes B4, and sent it up a launch rod. Jolly Logic Altimeter 2 data put the flight at 81 feet, 48 mph, and 6.4 G. He then wanted the same motor to do more work by firing it from a closed tube, the same idea that once helped the Arcas sounding rocket leave the pad faster than a rail ever allowed.



Atlantic Research built Arcas in the late 1950s as a low-cost way to deploy weather balloons. To get it moving, they inserted the 4.5-inch airframe into a closed-breech launch tube. The exhaust, which became trapped behind the rocket, acted like a piston, forcing it out of the tube – and quickly. The “Super Arcas” was equipped with an auxiliary gas generator and reached an altitude of 100 kilometers. The ordinary Arcas variants remained with the simple tube configuration and no additional propellant.

Hathy wanted to see if this piston-thing worked on the scale of a model rocket. The first thing he did was fire up a rod for control, and that was it. He then created a clamshell sabot, printed it to lock the rocket within a larger tube, and tried again, but the results were the opposite of what he wanted. Altitude decreased by around 40%. Going even slower, accelerating even less. Later, a simulation helped figure out why, as the tube behind the rocket became empty quicker than the small B4 motor could fill it, sucking the pressure right out of it, resulting in the rocket pulling a vacuum on its own and decelerating.

Hathy attempted to improve things by shrinking the tube significantly, down to a 1.5 inch internal diameter and trimming it back to five feet. To make the rocket fit, he had to modify the airframe as Spark II. Wrap-around fins that folded tightly against the body as the rocket traveled through the tube burst open on torsion springs as they reached the tube’s finish. He also worked on the sabot, employing a sawtooth lock and foam strips to create a tighter seal. To make things more interesting, he installed a pressure tap near the tube’s base, allowing him to measure friction with a kitchen scale prior to takeoff. The program predicted that if there were no leaks, he’d obtain an energy increase of about 80%. Just a little extra might assist the rocket arrive to its destination.

Spark II flew out of the five-foot tube on a B4, and the altimeter confirmed that it had reached 72 percent higher altitude than the initial rod. Not bad considering the sabot’s increased weight and the drag caused by the springs and fins when they folded out. Video indicated the item was moving roughly 12 meters per second when it left the tube, and the simple math said it hit around 5 Gs of acceleration as it was going through. Pressure readings remained positive until the rocket cleared the tube end, when it fell and began ringing at 75.5 Hz, as if it was complaining about being left behind. Those readings also suggested that there was still a lot of energy left behind, waiting to be used.

The sabot splits during ejection, and the recovery line melted a little from the heat, but that’s about it. The rocket flew straight and true, which is not awful. All of the increased weight and drag from the hardware appeared to be worthwhile in the end, and Hathy’s model rocket simulation slightly overestimated mass flow and a few other factors. However, the overall direction of the result was very clear, since the properly sized tube can convert waste gas into extra thrust, but the incorrectly sized tube can do the opposite, sucking the life right out of the rocket.

5 Turbocharged Sedans That Leave V8-Powered Rivals In The Dust

While some enthusiasts still consider owning a V8-powered performance car a rite of passage, there’s no way to avoid the fact that the V8 engine isn’t nearly as popular as it used to be. One of the main reasons is the industry push toward engine downsizing, with smaller-displacement, turbocharged engines replacing larger, naturally aspirated engines across many types of vehicles. Not surprisingly, this has caused an ongoing debate over the merits of V8s versus turbocharged engines

In many cases, manufacturers moved to these smaller turbo engines to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. That’s not the only way to use a turbo four- or six-cylinder engine, though, and there are many modern turbocharged performance cars that are about far more than hitting stricter emissions targets.

Below, we’ve gathered up five late-model turbocharged performance sedans that aren’t just capable of hanging with V8 performance cars but, in many cases, can leave them behind at the drag strip. Sure, these cars might not make the exhaust sounds that V8 purists love, but as we’re about to see, their performance could very well make up for that.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

The modern Alfa Romeo Giulia has always offered a unique take on the four-door sports sedan, with distinct styling and Italian heritage that stand out from the more common German and Japanese models which dominate this segment.  Most versions of the Giulia are powered by a capable, if not exciting, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, but the Quadrifoglio variant turns this car into something akin to a four-door Italian supercar. 

At the heart of the Giulia Quadrifoglio is its powerful and unique twin-turbo V6 engine, which, at 2.9 liters, is fairly small by modern V6 standards. Despite that, it’s rated at 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The engine isn’t just praised for its output, though, but for its vivacious, free-revving nature — and it all starts to make sense when you realize that it’s derived from the 3.9-liter Ferrari F154 V8 that powered models like the California T.

Car and Driver got the Giulia Quadrifoglio to hit 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 11.9 seconds, which is enough to easily take down something like the 500-hp V8 Ford Mustang Dark Horse at the drags. Amazingly, the Alfa nearly matches the drag strip performance of the 707-horsepower Dodge Challenger Hellcat, based on Car and Driver’s 11.7-second quarter-mile ET.

BMW M3

If you want a good example of how engine downsizing can work in a modern performance car, just look at the BMW M3. In the late 2000s, the E90 M3 was powered by a high-revving, naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8, but that made way for a smaller, turbocharged inline-6 engine in 2014. While some still lament the loss of the V8, the new turbo engine quickly proved itself a capable replacement, and the current G80 generation M3 has pushed the performance envelope even further.

In its current form, this turbocharged BMW isn’t just a fast sport sedan: it’s a legitimate supercar-killer that should beat many modern V8s at the drag strip regardless of the variant. That said, the top-dog M3 CS takes the performance to another level. Its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 543 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque; in Car and Driver’s testing, that’s good enough to take the M3 CS to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, with the quarter-mile coming in a scorching 10.7 seconds.

Needless to say, those numbers put the M3 CS well ahead of many modern V8 performance cars. Among the V8 cars that would be left staring at the BMW’s taillights at the drag strip are the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, both of which pack supercharged power. It’s even slightly quicker than the very fast, mid-engined C8 Corvette Sting Ray.

Audi RS 3

In an Audi lineup that’s increasingly full of SUVs and electric vehicles, the RS 3 sedan is old-school Audi in all the right ways. This rally-inspired machine also stands out from other modern sport sedans — and those differences begin under the hood. The RS 3 doesn’t have a turbocharged four- or six-cylinder engine like you’ll so often see these days. Instead, it splits the difference with Audi’s signature five-cylinder engine

Fed by a single turbocharger, the RS 3’s 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine is rated at 394 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. By modern performance car standards, those numbers aren’t particularly notable, but in a compact sedan with a grippy all-wheel-drive system, you’ve got the recipe to scare off some V8s.

Car and Driver recorded a 0-60 time of just 3.2 seconds from a 2025 RS 3, with the quarter-mile ET coming in at 11.7 seconds. This makes the Audi quick enough to take down V8 cars like the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, as well as the 472-hp Lexus RC F. The RS 3 will even beat the drag-strip-focused Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 1320 up to 60 mph. As an added consolation, while it might not make traditional V8 noises, its unique engine gives it one of the most distinct exhaust notes on the market today.

Mercedes-AMG C63

For better or for worse, the latest iteration of the Mercedes C-Class AMG is a textbook example of the modern high-performance sport sedan. Formerly powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the current model, officially called the AMG C63 S E Performance, replaced its old V8 with a plug-in hybrid powertrain built around a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Our experience with this high-tech super sedan showed the AMG C63 to be extremely impressive from a technical standpoint, with lots of Mercedes’ Formula 1 DNA coursing through the car. There’s also no arguing with the car’s performance. Rated at 671 hp and 752 lb-ft of torque, Car and Driver testing showed the C63’s combination of turbo and electric power can take the sedan to a 2.9-second 0-60 time and a quarter-mile run of 11.2 seconds.

Not only is that enough to handily beat the old V8-powered C63 at the drag strip, but this hybrid would also take down plenty of other modern V8 machines, including the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye and the Mustang Shelby GT500. And while it might not sound as good to most ears, this four-cylinder Mercedes is even quick enough to beat the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 over the quarter mile.

Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing

When you think of high-performance, rear-drive American cars, a V8 engine is almost certainly the first thing that comes to mind. Cadillac, however, has done some very impressive things with turbocharged V6 engines over the last decade, and the pinnacle of all that effort is the current CT4-V Blackwing. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 engine, the CT4-V Blackwing is rated at a V8-rivaling 472 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque.

As our review found, the highly enjoyable CT4-V Blackwing is one of those cars with a driving experience that goes beyond its performance numbers — not that those numbers are anything to be ashamed of, either. In Car and Driver testing, the CT4-V Blackwing hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds flat, with the quarter-mile coming in 12.4 seconds. Better yet, it did all that with a six-speed manual transmission, an extremely rare option on modern sport sedans. 

While other turbocharged sedans are quicker, those numbers are still enough for the Blackwing to earn the edge over V8 cars like the Ford Mustang GT and the Lexus GS F sedan, both of which have 5.0-liter V8s. As a sign of how far things have come, the CT4-V Blackwing’s performance numbers are even comparable to the old supercharged, V8-powered Cadillac CTS-V of the 2010s.

Methodology

For this list, we limited our selection to sport sedans released after 2020 and powered by turbocharged, non-V8 engines. We relied on instrumented 0-60 and quarter-mile times as the primary performance metrics and compared them to V8-powered sports cars, coupes, and sport sedans from the mid-2010s onward, both currently in production and discontinued.

What the Heck? Another Perfect Geometric Shape Has Been Detected on Saturn

A team of astronomers discovered a strange polygonal atmospheric structure on Saturn near the planet’s south pole. This 10-sided shape, known as a decagon, joins one of the gas giant’s most famous features: a hexagon near the north pole that was first observed 44 years ago. Images of the new decagon were captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, and the discovery was recently published in the journal Science Advances.

The formations at both the north and south poles aren’t solid structures, like a wall or a rock formation. Saturn doesn’t even have a defined solid surface like Earth’s crust. If you were to descend through the atmosphere of the ringed planet, the pressure and density would progressively increase, but you would never reach a “ground” on which to land. Instead, what astronomers have witnessed are patterns formed by clouds, albeit very unusual ones.

Each side of the decagon measures approximately 16,800 kilometers, which is a few thousand miles longer than the diameter of Earth. Near the feature is a jet stream reaching speeds of 116 meters per second, or nearly 260 miles per hour. By way of comparison, a Category 5 hurricane—the most intense storm level possible on Earth—is defined by winds above 157 miles per hour. Interestingly, although the jet stream circulates at tremendous speed, the decagon pattern shifts at a mere 2.5 meters per second—less than 6 miles per hour.

The south pole feature appears to have formed recently. For decades, scientists have been searching for a counterpart to the famous northern hexagon. However, major missions that observed the planet have previously not been able to find an equivalent, long-lasting structure in the south. The search was further complicated because, due to Saturn’s tilt, its southern hemisphere was not clearly visible from Earth for many years.

The first clues of the decagon came from ground-based observations, some by amateur astronomers. As the images accumulated, it became evident that something strange was happening in Saturn’s southern cloud bands. Data from the Hubble Space Telescope made it possible to trace the pattern back to images taken in 2023. Monitoring continued, and by 2025 its 10 vertices had become much more clearly defined, confirming the presence of a new polygonal feature in the ringed planet’s atmosphere. Science, however, hasn’t settled on an explanation for how these structures came to be.

Various hypotheses have been proposed since the discovery of the north polar hexagon. One is that the polygons are the visible manifestations of enormous atmospheric waves confined by powerful jet streams. You can think of these as similar to ocean waves, which are not simply objects traveling across the ocean but rather disturbances propagating through the water.

A wave’s behavior changes depending on the space in which it moves and the boundaries it encounters. On Saturn, waves of atmospheric gases may be encountering jet streams that confine them, in a sense, like the edge of a beach. Except in this case, the “beach” wraps all the way around the planet.

JLab goes big on new headphones at IFA 2026

JLab has unveiled its full JBuds Mini ANC range of headphones, adding Apple Find My compatibility to its JBuds Mini ANC earbuds, the first pair under $100 to offer the feature.

Only Apple’s AirPods and Beats models have offered native Find My tracking before now, so JLab’s move brings that reassurance to a sub-100-dollar pair of earbuds. Users can clip the charging case to a bag and locate it inside the Find My app alongside their other Apple devices.

Active Noise Cancellation and Spatial Audio carry over from that CES debut, and the updated range is available now across Europe, with wider US retail availability following from 1 October.

Sport audio joins the lineup

Alongside the Mini ANC update, JLab used IFA 2026 to expand its sport audio range with two new launches, the JBuds Open Sport 2 and the GO Sport ANC, both aimed at active users.

JBuds Open Sport 2 uses a semi-in-ear, open-ear hybrid design built around 14.2mm dynamic drivers and JLab’s new SoundBoost technology, which automatically adjusts bass and tone so users can hear a workout and their surroundings at once.

Secure sport earhooks, an IP55 rating and 44 hours of total playtime support that open-ear approach, while Bluetooth 6 with Multipoint-3 connectivity keeps the earbuds paired across up to three devices at a time.

GO Sport ANC follows a similar path for JLab’s existing GO Sport earbuds, and it adds Active Noise Cancelling and Spatial Audio to a redesigned earbud and case. Soft, bendable earhooks, an IP55 rating and 35 hours of sweatproof playtime round out JLab’s second new fitness launch.

JLab paired the audio launches with the announcement of its Jelle Collection, a shimmer-finish take on the JBuds Mini ANC and JBuds Lux ANC that’s available in five shades, from Royal Caviar’s deep blue to Gold Digger’s warm gold.

On the launch, Win Cramer, chief executive of JLab said: “Listening to our customers, we know that audio is an extension of personal style, which is why the Jelle Collection brings a bold, expressive new look to both JBuds Mini ANC and JBuds Lux ANC”.

Pricing for the Jelle Collection starts at £39.99 for JBuds Mini ANC Jelle and rises to £79.99 for JBuds Lux Jelle, while JBuds Open Sport 2 and GO Sport ANC carry an RRP of £49.99 and £39.99 respectively.

US law firm accuses UK AI software firm of unwanted contract renewal when it tried to leave

A US law firm is alleging that UK-based telecoms and software company ConnexAI sold it software and AI systems that failed to perform as the vendor claimed, and then unlawfully renewed its contract. ConnexAI has rejected the allegations. The dispute has involves two court cases, both of which are ongoing.  

DK Law, a personal injury specialist based in California, alleged in a California court filing in April that ConnexAI promises “customers a telephone system and AI software solution with functionality that does not exist or perform as represented.”

It also alleges in the California complaint [PDF] that ConnexAI continued to send it invoices after it had told the vendor it was not renewing the year-long contract.

The Register understands that ConnexAI believes the allegations to be frivolous and without merit. The vendor is branded ConnexAI, and registered as Connex One Limited in the UK and Connex One Inc in the US.

The customer’s claim followed a complaint that ConnexAI itself filed against the law firm the month before. In March 2026, in a New York court, ConnexAI filed a complaint [PDF] claiming its law firm customer had breached its contract by failing to pay invoices.

Dan Richardson, ConnexAI general manager of North America, said in a statement: “There is a limit to what we can say while the matter is before the court. This claim is one part of a wider dispute which was initiated by Connex One Inc. The allegations now being made are rejected, and we would note that they were raised only after we issued proceedings which are active.”

In its complaint in the US District Court, Central District of California, Southern Division, DK Law alleges that ConnexAI sold it a telephone system and software on the basis that it would provide phone and voice services integrated with SMS and WhatsApp. ConnexAI also said its Athena software included “sentiment analysis, entity recognition, call transcripts, interaction clustering, training cues, and the ability to identify trends.” Crucially, it also claimed the AI transcription worked in Spanish.

“ConnexAI represented that the Athena AI software included AI Agent, AI Guru, AI Analytics, AI Voice, Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), all of which were represented to elevate customer interactions and enhance customer engagement and experience,” the filing said.

Using AI agents would offer around-the-clock availability, faster response times and personalized interactions, with a “human-like voice and text-based communication,” the complaint argued.

After less than a year using the software, DK Law alleged its experience of the software differed from the claims made by the vendor.

According to the California filing, the telephone system frequently “went down”, with calls often dropped or unanswered. Calls were also consistently misrouted, the customer alleges.

The problems were reported to the vendor’s support team. After the issue was escalated, the filing continues, ConnexAI sent US technical services engineers and the UK-based CTO to troubleshoot. “Sometimes the problem was resolved for the moment, only to recur shortly thereafter, with no permanent fix,” the complaint claimed.

In addition, WhatsApp was unreliable and effectively unusable, DK Law alleges.

While ConnexAI had claimed its ASR “would never miss a word,” DK Law claimed “this too was false.”

Per the filing, on checking recordings of calls, the customer claims to have discovered that only a few seconds of a conversation were actually recorded despite evidence of a longer call.

“Connex also represented in pre-contract discussions that its software was able to create real-time call transcripts of customer interactions conducted in English and Spanish. However, in reality, the Connex software only sometimes produced a transcript. When compared to the recorded conversations, DK Law found the transcripts of calls conducted in English to be inaccurate, and the Spanish language transcription did not work at all,” the California law firm alleged.

Given the performance, the filing claims, Brendan Haverlock, DK Law CTO, told the vendor that the contract would not be renewed after it expired in October 2025.

But that was not the end of the matter. The complaint alleges ConnexAI continued to invoice DK Law after the end of the contract term, demanding payment and “harassing its employees” for payment, the customer alleged.

In March 2026, Connex Inc, the US company, launched a legal claim in the New York case against DK Law in which it alleged DK Law had failed to make the required payments and breached its contract.

The filing, which was originally made in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, and then moved to a New York District Court, said that in October 2024, the two companies entered into an agreement, which “renewed for a subsequent term commencing on October 8, 2025.”

However, in the separate but related California filing in April, DK Law alleged that ConnexAI had already breached the contract “by failing… to implement and deliver telecommunications and software services in a manner consistent with industry standards.”

It also said in the filing that ConnexAI’s claim that the contract had automatically renewed was not in accordance with New York State law, which “required Connex to give written notice of the automatic renewal in advance.” The law covers telecommunications and software. ConnexAI “never provided the requisite notice of automatic renewal,” DK Law alleged.

In the California Court, DK Law seeks restitution and damages.

In a statement to The Register, ConnexAI’s Richardson questioned why Connex One Ltd was included on the California claim, given Connex Inc sued DK Law in New York.

In the California filing, DK Law alleged the UK company “directly participated in the sales process, provided or controlled implementation and support personnel, and directed or ratified the post-notice renewal and retention conduct.”

It said the US company is wholly owned and operated by the UK’s Connex One Limited and acted as a contracting arm or agent.

The case is now waiting to move through the courts. Last week, (August 27) the California court denied DK Law’s claim, but only insofar as it “stayed” the case, pending the New York claim. In effect, that case is put on hold until the New York case is settled.

DK Law is attempting to have the New York case dismissed and has requested the court hear oral arguments. On September 1, in an order and opinion filed by federal magistrate judge Katharine H Parker, the motion to stay the case was denied [PDF].®

Tesla Launches Steering-Wheel-Free Cybercab Robotaxi In Austin

Tesla has begun offering public rides in Austin in its purpose-built Cybercab, a two-seat robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals. “You can go outside, take rides,” said Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s VP of AI. “Anyone can take rides. It’s open to the entire public.” Previously, the fleet consisted only of Model Ys.

Texas records show Tesla had registered 45 Cybercabs as of Thursday, though the company has not disclosed how many are currently carrying passengers. Tesla also says it eventually wants consumers to be able to buy the vehicles for under $30,000. Business Insider reports: Videos posted online by Tesla influencers and content creators who were invited to the Austin event showed that the Cybercab can be hailed through the Robotaxi app. In a video posted by David Moss, an autonomous-vehicle content creator, Robotaxi users could open the car’s butterfly doors through the app. After the riders enter the car, the doors closed automatically, Moss said in the video. The launch comes nearly two years after Tesla first unveiled the Cybercab at its “We, Robot” event in Burbank, California.

The Dyson Spot+Scrub AI showed that Dyson could finally compete, with a self-cleaning, self-emptying docking station and proper mopping. The robot market moves fast, and new models are needed to keep up, so it’s good to see Dyson’s back with three new models, all under the new Nurovi branding.

A new flagship robot, the Dyson R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV is a more powerful and smarter robot vacuum cleaner and mop. Its key feature is the AI stain detection system, which combines UV light, AI vision and a green laser to spot nearly 200 different types of household substances and objects.

Once a stain has been detected, the robot is designed to keep cleaning until the mess has gone, using a roller that is dosed with 70°C heater water.

The dock is similar to the previous one, retaining the bagless bin for clean, emptying. This robot is available in early 2027, and pricing has not yet been announced.The Nurovi R2 also features Dyson’s new Twin-capture system, separating fine and coarse debris for more efficient cleaning. Brush-bar bristles sweep larger debris into the machine, while suction targets fine dust and smaller particles. A simpler robot vacuum cleaner, the Dyson R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry is available from today at £749.99. A robot vacuum and mop, this model uses mopping pads. They’re Reuleaux triangle mopping pads, and their shape lets them squeeze right ot the edges of rooms and into corners. Water heated to 75°C in the dock helps shift stubborn stains.

The Nurovi R2 has Dyson’s new Twin-capture system, separating fine and coarse debris for more efficient cleaning. Brush-bar bristles sweep larger debris into the machine, while suction targets fine dust and smaller particles. Effectively as dry-only version of the R2, the Dyson R1 Nurovi Dry has the same twin-capture technology, but ditches the mopping option. Its 21,000Pa suction power should be good enough for most scenarios, and this vacuum is particularly well suited for those who have carpeted homes and don’t need mopping.

This robot has a slightly smaller dock, as it only needs to charge the room and suck out dirt. Available now, the Dyson R1 Nurovi Dry costs £499.99.

Dyson W1 PencilWash

We liked the small size of the Dyson PencilWash but felt that the hard floor cleaner missed a few features that larger models have. The Dyson W1 PencilWash fixes that, while keeping the same super-small body.

This Rugged Smartphone’s Camera Is A Removable Action Cam

Few companies are pushing back against the black, oblong smartphone design hegemony in 2026, but RugOne is one of them. It’s part of Ulefon, which has been pumping out ruggedized phones for a few years, and its newest phone, the Xsnap 7 Pro, is very rugged but has a magnetic removable camera unit that can work like an action cam.

Yeah, it made me go “ooh” when I heard about it. (Unfortunately, my sample landed while we report on IFA 2026 here in Berlin. I’ll update this story when I get to see the device in person later this week. The almost cube-shaped camera weighs 39 grams and can record video up to 2.7K resolution at 30fps — it’s not coming for the latest GoPro quite yet. 

RugOne says the module can run for up to 40 minutes on a full charge, with 64GB of built-in storage. It’ll broadcast a preview feed to RugOne’s companion app, up to 50 meters away. It also includes a handful of software features, including distortion correction, horizon lock and a Freeframe shooting mode that captures the full sensor area, so you can crop to vertical or horizontal footage as needed.

The camera is waterproof up to five meters (without any additional protective cases), and the company will also include a companion magnet pendant so you can wear it on your body for capture; it will also work with third-party accessories that support a universal mount.

The Xsnap 7 Pro also has a 50-megapixel “AI main camera” with optical image stabilization, plus a 64MP infrared night-vision camera with IR LEDs for “crisp black-and-white detail” during nighttime wildlife shooting — RugOne’s suggestion, not mine.

And let’s not forget: still a phone. The Xsnap 7 Pro has a 6.67-inch display with 1,700-nit peak brightness and up to 120Hz refresh rates. It packs a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 processor, and the device has strong durability credentials. It’s rated IP68 and IP69K and can handle water submersion up to two meters deep for 30 minutes as well as 1.5-meter drops onto concrete.

While a prototype was teased at MWC 2026 a few months ago, the Xsnap 7 Pro is officially debuting at IFA, with early-bird sales opening on Kickstarter on September 7 at a discounted preorder price of 799 euros (roughly $930). The phone will then go on sale globally sometime next month on Amazon and RugOne’s online store, priced at $999, in Sand Dune and Classic Black.

DeCare’s Maureen Walsh to succeed Colin Hunt as Ibec president

Walsh stated it is a privilege to represent Ireland’s businesses during a time of considerable change for the economy.

Ireland’s representative body for business and employers yesterday (3 September), announced the appointment of Maureen Walsh to the position of Ibec president for the period 2026 – 2027. 

She was elected by the organisation’s National Council and will succeed Dr Colin Hunt. 

Walsh is the managing director of DeCare Dental Insurance, which she has led from the start-up stage. She also previously served as a member of the Governing Body of GMIT, before the transition to ATU, is a former chair of the Mayo Cancer Support Association and serves on the Local Enterprise Evaluations and Appeals Committee.

Commenting on her appointment, Walsh said, “It is a privilege to lead Ibec and represent Irish business at a time of considerable change for our economy. 

“The resilience that has been synonymous with the Irish economy over the last number of years in the face of considerable global disruption is both a source of pride and a reminder that complacency is the enemy of our future success. 

“Operating from the West of Ireland, I know that the Irish economic success story is not just confined to our major cities, but one that touches towns and villages throughout the country.”

She added, “When it comes to regional development, we must keep Ireland’s momentum up by expanding our infrastructure- from housing and energy to transport and digital connectivity, all of which will be key to enabling our continued growth in all parts of the country.

Ugreen’s new power bank is liquid cooled and you can actually see the coolant fluid in action

Power banks are going through a quiet revolution of their own. Just when solid-state power banks started to find a spot, Ugreen has unveiled what could be the next evolution of power banks at its Smart Living Launch Event, far away from the glitz of IFA 2026. The latest from the brand is the Ugreen MagFlow Pro Magnetic Power Bank 10000mAh 25W, which is said to be the world’s first liquid-cooled power bank that combines the convenience of wired charging with wireless top up.

So how does the liquid cooling actually work?

And yeah, you can see the coolant liquid moving across the channel through a transparent window at the front. It’s similar to how Red Magic has implemented liquid cooling in its Red Magic 11S Pro smartphone and the new Red Magic Astra gaming tablet. The rear glass shell on both devices lets you see the coolant liquid flowing through the visible channels.

Coming back to the in-house CryoPulse tech, as Ugreen calls it, the company claims it can reduce heat buildup by half, keeping the power bank up to 18 degrees Fahrenheit cooler. Accompanying the liquid-cooled micro-pump assembly, there’s a copper foil sitting right below the Qi2 magnetic ring for further heat dissipation. I really like the built-in charging cable, which folds and buckle-locks neatly so that you can use it as a strap.

How fast does it actually charge your phone?

Talking about specifications, the wireless pad on the Ugreen MagFlow Pro 10,000 mAh power bank supports 25W Qi2 magnetic charging, letting you fill an iPhone 17 Pro Max from empty to the halfway mark in just 40 minutes. For wired charging, the power bank can output 45W through its built-in USB-C cable, promising a 0% to 65% top-up for Apple’s flagship in just 30 minutes. Charging the power bank, on the other hand, takes 2 hours for a full juice-up.

What about pricing and availability?

There’s also a dedicated USB-C inlet on the power bank, letting you charge three devices simultaneously. Supported charging standards include PD 3.0, Qi2, QC 4.0, and PPS, among others. The asking price of the Ugreen MagFlow Pro Magnetic Power Bank 10000mAh 25W is set at $149.99, which is twice as expensive as a regular 10,000 mAh power bank by the brand with wireless charging support. It’s already up for grabs on Ugreen’s website with a 20% discount, and you can also get it from Amazon’s storefront in the US.

Belkin’s SoundForm lineup brings ANC earbuds to under $60

Belkin picked IFA 2026 to give its SoundForm audio lineup a proper glow-up, and this time the focus is squarely on your wallet. The company just announced three new additions, SoundForm Isolate, SoundForm Dot, and SoundForm Play, and together they push ANC and other premium features down to affordable prices. All three will be on display at IFA and start shipping this September.

What do the new earbuds actually offer?

Leading the pack is SoundForm Isolate, Belkin’s most powerful noise-cancelling earbuds yet. They pack up to 45dB of ANC along with three ear tip and wing tip sizes for a snug fit, so they should stay put whether you are commuting or grinding through deep work. Battery life tops out at 32 hours, and a 10-minute fast charge gets you 90 minutes of playback when you are in a rush. All this comes in at just $59.99.

If that is still more than you want to spend, SoundForm Dot might be the better fit. It comes in two flavors, one with ANC and one without, so you only pay for what you actually need. The ANC version offers 30 hours of battery life and costs $39.99, while the non-ANC model drops to $34.99 for an even easier entry into true wireless audio. Both models support Bluetooth Multipoint, so you can jump between your laptop and phone without pairing again.

There’s also something for the kids

SoundForm Play is a pair of over-ear ANC headphones built for kids five and up, complete with an optional 85dB volume limiter to protect young ears.
