The global superstar will headline the halftime show for the highly anticipated Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans matchup on December 25, treating fans to hits from her record-breaking album Cowboy Carter.” Produced by Parkwood Entertainment and Jesse Collins Entertainment, the performance promises an unforgettable spectacle with special guest appearances from artists featured on the Grammy-nominated album.

The event marks a milestone for Netflix as it ventures into live sports, pairing the pop icon’s performance with two marquee matchups: Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 PM ET and Ravens vs. Texans at 4:30 PM ET. Beyoncé’s NFL legacy continues to grow, following her electrifying Super Bowl shows in 2013 and 2016.

2. Ruger’s “Asiwaju” certified Gold in France

Nigerian artist Ruger has reached a remarkable milestone in his career as his hit single “Asiwaju” is certified gold in France. The certification comes after the track surpassed the 500,000-unit sales threshold, a testament to its widespread popularity and appeal. Additionally, the song has garnered over 15 million streams, further solidifying its status as a global sensation. Fans of the “Girlfriend” crooner have flooded social media with congratulatory messages, celebrating the artist’s growing international recognition.

The success of “Asiwaju” underscores Ruger’s rising influence in the global music industry. As he continues to captivate audiences with his unique sound and vibrant style, anticipation builds for what’s next from this trailblazing Nigerian talent.

3. GQ South Africa names Tyla ‘Entertainer of The Year’

GQ South Africa has crowned 22-year-old music sensation Tyla as their “Entertainer of The Year,” recognizing her extraordinary achievements and global impact in 2024. Tyla’s meteoric rise has been fueled by her unmatched work ethic and hunger for success, which have catapulted her from a promising newcomer to a global superstar. The honor comes as no surprise, considering the groundbreaking collaborations on her debut album and a string of captivating performances that have electrified audiences around the world.

Highlighting her phenomenal year, GQ’s announcement celebrated Tyla’s viral 2023 hit “Water,” which topped charts internationally and cemented her place in the music industry. The South African artist made history as the first African artist to win three awards in one night at the MTV European Music Awards and became the youngest African soloist to take home a Grammy.

4. YoungBoy NBA sentenced to 23 months for felony gun possession

Rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again, born Kentrell Gaulden, has been sentenced to 23 months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of felony firearm possession. The sentencing, handed down on Tuesday, December 10, in a Baton Rouge federal court, concludes a legal battle stemming from a 2020 firearms case. In addition to the prison term, the 25-year-old rapper was fined $25,000. As part of his plea agreement, YoungBoy admitted to possessing multiple firearms during a music video shoot in Baton Rouge and at his Utah residence. These included a Glock .45-caliber pistol and a Masterpiece Arms MPA30T 9mm handgun, as well as a Sig Sauer 9mm semi-automatic handgun, all of which he has agreed to surrender.

The sentencing follows YoungBoy’s guilty plea last month to unrelated charges of involvement in a Utah prescription drug operation, for which he avoided additional prison time but was fined $200,000 and placed on five years’ probation. The rapper’s legal troubles have spanned several years, including allegations of involvement in a 2019 Miami shooting. Currently on house arrest in Salt Lake City, Utah, YoungBoy has been residing there as part of his plea agreement.

5. FIFA confirms Saudi Arabia as the 2034 World Cup host

FIFA has officially announced Saudi Arabia as the host of the 2034 men’s football World Cup, solidifying the kingdom’s growing presence on the global sports stage. The decision, confirmed during an Extraordinary FIFA Congress meeting held via video link, follows the selection of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as joint hosts for the 2030 tournament. To mark the centenary of the competition, the 2030 World Cup will also feature three celebratory matches in South America, specifically in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, honoring the region’s role in the inaugural World Cup in 1930.

The voting process for both tournaments has sparked controversy, with nations casting their votes by acclamation—clapping in front of their cameras. Norway abstained from endorsing Saudi Arabia’s 2034 bid, citing concerns over the bidding process rather than the kingdom itself. Saudi Arabia’s significant investment in sports, often criticized as “sportswashing,” has drawn scrutiny over its human rights record and environmental policies. Currently, only four of the 15 proposed stadiums for the 2034 tournament are complete, underlining the scale of infrastructure development needed for the event.
