VIVIANCHAN Was A Lesson In Light & Layers At The Bomb Fashion Show LA

At The Bomb Fashion Show’s Los Angeles debut, designer Vivian Chan found an unexpected source of inspiration for her Cadillac-inspired collection: the way light dances across the automaker’s copper-orange finish.

Showcasing a series of looks from her VIVIANCHAN fashion house, Chan translated the car’s shifting hues into fashion, featuring sheer layers, delicate draping, and romantic silhouettes.
Her marquee look featured a peach-orange ensemble with an asymmetrical midriff halter top and skirt in textured, crinkled silk organza. As the model moved through Nya West in Hollywood, the overlapping layers reflected different shades of orange under the lights. It was a clever nod to the vehicle’s finish, with fabric doing the work of paint.
“I wanted to capture how when different light hits the car, you see a different shade of the orange,” Chan explained.
A dusty rose ensemble featured gathered fabric and a flowing panel, while ivory tailored paints were paired with a lighter-than-air sculptural overlay. The soft palette with whimsical architectural detailing gave the collection an ethereal, yet wearable feel.
Chan’s approach was all about the little things: the placement of a fold, the transparency of a layer, and the way a garment moved against the body.

I first saw this sweater in red (maybe at Nordstrom?), thought that looks gorgeous but pricy, and moved on. But then I noticed the exact same sweater in blue at Anthro… and it really looks perfect. Grumble.
I love the slouchy, oversized vibe and the very deep V — I think you could easily layer a cami, tee, or blouse underneath it to make it work for the office, too.
Love. The sweater is $500 at Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and Anine Bing; it also comes as a crewneck. If you’re looking for something similar, reader favorite cashmere brand Brochu Walker has something similar for about the same price, and Tuckernuck has a nice oversized sweater as well but only in navy and beige for $198. Jenni Kayne has a similar option in merino for $298, and Aritizia has a deep V sweater in wool/cashmere for $150.

One Layer, Day to Night
Outfit Details: Bode Coat (last seen here), Ciao Lucia Shirt, Chloe Pants (on sale here, less expensive here), Chanel Flats (similar here), Destree Bag, Valentino Belt, Dior Sunglasses
Maybe the true sign of a smart investment is a coat you love so much you find yourself reaching for it day and night. I’ve always been drawn to outerwear that feels special, whether it’s an extraordinary shade of pink, an intricate pattern, or a silhouette that makes an impression before you’ve even taken it off. The best ones can take on almost anything you put underneath and still feel like the right choice, without ever losing their sense of where they belong.
For daytime, I’ll wear mine with a straight leg trouser and a fun flat, letting the color or pattern take center stage. By evening, the possibilities get a little more decadent: a decorative skirt, fluid silk, and jewelry that catches the light. Even a change in handbag or heel can introduce a completely different sensibility. It’s a way of thinking about outerwear beyond its practical purpose, allowing one exceptional layer to become the thread connecting two distinct ways of dressing.

I love this Mackage coat, particularly the unusual cut and overlapping collar. I first noticed the design on a houndstooth trench coat, but I think it’s even lovelier in wool.
I’m not usually a fan of double-breasted coats, but dang this one is gorgeous.
It’s $1190 at Nordstrom (although the houndstooth trench is marked down to $817.)
(If you are the rare bird who can wear a wrap coat without looking like you’re in a bathrobe, this one is also gorgeous.)

Tailoring in Full Bloom – Julia Berolzheimer
Outfit Details: Dior Jacket, Pants, Bag & Heels
There’s something so appealing about tailoring that takes on a more decorative flair. A beautifully cut jacket in an elaborate floral jacquard, a matching skirt shot through with metallic thread, or a brilliant shade of green that makes a familiar silhouette feel entirely new. These details bring a sense of whimsy to more structured pieces, especially this time of year, when richer fabrics and intricate patterns start finding their way into the wardrobe.
Romantic blooms, glints of metallic, and the kind of prints you’d expect to see at a garden party have a way of softening even the most buttoned-up styles, adding a touch of femininity to a sharp blazer or a pencil skirt. A matching set in an all-over print is where it all comes together for me. The pattern leans maximalist, but the clean, tailored shape reels it in, which feels like the very definition of polished maximalism. From lunches and afternoons in the city to dinners, celebrations, and everything in between, there are so many opportunities to bring a little more color and decoration into the mix.

THE BROOCH CHRONICLES

Small pins make big statements! I am going to address one of the most frequently asked questions around here. The above brooches in my hand are from this shop! I called the NYC store and had them sent to me. I am not sure if they have any left in stock, but that is how I got my hands on them. The feather brooches I wear? You can find them here. They are totally FAB and I have bought six of them! I tried a few different feather brooch vendors on Etsy and they were nowhere near as good. The colorful brooch that I added to my Tory Burch bag this week was found here. Now, for all of those and more, keep scrolling…

The Ladylike Side of Leopard
Outfit Details: Valentino Shirt (old, similar here), Rohe Skirt, Dries Van Noten Cardigan (old, similar here), Chanel Flats (similar here) & Bag (similar here)
Leopard has a reputation for being a little wild, which is exactly why I love dressing it up in more ladylike ways. Left to its own devices, the print can lean toward a late night out, but paired with the right pieces, it feels just as at home over a long lunch. The trick is balancing all that boldness with something decidedly polished. A leopard skirt cut in a classic pencil silhouette or a cashmere sweater draped over the shoulders brings a sense of refinement to a print that’s known for being anything but reserved.

Accessories are where I have the most fun with it. A strand of pearls instantly gives leopard a more feminine feel, and a leopard bag carried with a twill jacket is one foolproof formula to wear the print during the day. It’s the contrast that makes it work, something a little untamed alongside pieces that feel prim and proper, so the whole look comes across as put-together rather than loud.
