I love this Mackage coat, particularly the unusual cut and overlapping collar. I first noticed the design on a houndstooth trench coat, but I think it’s even lovelier in wool.
I’m not usually a fan of double-breasted coats, but dang this one is gorgeous.

(If you are the rare bird who can wear a wrap coat without looking like you’re in a bathrobe, this one is also gorgeous.)

There’s something so appealing about tailoring that takes on a more decorative flair. A beautifully cut jacket in an elaborate floral jacquard, a matching skirt shot through with metallic thread, or a brilliant shade of green that makes a familiar silhouette feel entirely new. These details bring a sense of whimsy to more structured pieces, especially this time of year, when richer fabrics and intricate patterns start finding their way into the wardrobe.
Romantic blooms, glints of metallic, and the kind of prints you’d expect to see at a garden party have a way of softening even the most buttoned-up styles, adding a touch of femininity to a sharp blazer or a pencil skirt. A matching set in an all-over print is where it all comes together for me. The pattern leans maximalist, but the clean, tailored shape reels it in, which feels like the very definition of polished maximalism. From lunches and afternoons in the city to dinners, celebrations, and everything in between, there are so many opportunities to bring a little more color and decoration into the mix.

Leopard has a reputation for being a little wild, which is exactly why I love dressing it up in more ladylike ways. Left to its own devices, the print can lean toward a late night out, but paired with the right pieces, it feels just as at home over a long lunch. The trick is balancing all that boldness with something decidedly polished. A leopard skirt cut in a classic pencil silhouette or a cashmere sweater draped over the shoulders brings a sense of refinement to a print that’s known for being anything but reserved.

Accessories are where I have the most fun with it. A strand of pearls instantly gives leopard a more feminine feel, and a leopard bag carried with a twill jacket is one foolproof formula to wear the print during the day. It’s the contrast that makes it work, something a little untamed alongside pieces that feel prim and proper, so the whole look comes across as put-together rather than loud.

I love, love, love the color of this classic-looking blazer from J.Crew. It reminds me of a chocolate-covered raspberry. I have some fabulous blazers in my closet that I don’t reach for as much anymore because they look a little dated, but this cut looks timeless. (And even if I’m wrong about that in five years, I would still hang onto it for another five because the style will certainly come back around.)
