Tottenham Eyeing ‘Monster’ Como Defender Jacobo Ramon
Tottenham are among a number of Premier League clubs monitoring Como defender Jacobo Ramon, as interest in the young centre-back continues to grow ahead of the January window.
The 21-year-old has impressed during his first full season in Serie A, attracting attention from England after establishing himself as a regular starter for Cesc Fabregas’ side.
Tottenham among Premier League clubs tracking Jacobo Ramón
According to CaughtOffside, Tottenham Hotspur have been monitoring Ramon closely since December. Ramon joined Como from Real Madrid last summer and has quickly emerged as one of the club’s most consistent performers. He has now made 16 league appearances this season, standing out for his composure in possession, physicality and ability to read the game despite his age. Ramon, described as a ‘monster’, has started 15 Serie A games for Como this season at the age of 21, scoring twice for the Italian outfit.
Why Ramón appeals to Tottenham’s recruitment model
Tottenham’s interest is understood to be driven by Ramón’s suitability for a possession-based system and his comfort playing in a high defensive line. Spurs have prioritised defenders who are technically secure and capable of progressing the ball from the back, qualities Ramón has regularly demonstrated in Serie A.
At 21, he is also viewed as a player with significant development potential, fitting Tottenham’s long-term recruitment strategy rather than representing an immediate short-term fix. Spurs are also close to signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has agreed a five-and-a-half-year deal.
Real Madrid clause complicates any potential deal
Any move for Ramón would be far from straightforward due to Real Madrid’s continued involvement. The Spanish giants inserted an €8m buy-back clause and a 50 per cent sell-on clause when allowing him to leave, ensuring they retain significant control over his future. While Ramón’s market value is believed to be around €18m, Madrid could choose to activate their buy-back option before reselling him themselves, or instead benefit from a sizeable share of any fee agreed with Como. As a result, interested clubs such as Tottenham are expected to remain patient, with any potential move likely to hinge on Madrid’s intentions as much as Como’s stance as the window progresses. That dynamic makes January a difficult window for negotiations, with clubs reluctant to commit significant resources without clarity on Madrid’s position. Tottenham are therefore likely to keep monitoring Ramón’s situation while weighing up alternative defensive options should a clearer opportunity fail to emerge.
