Co-option of new member to be considered by Filey Town Council

A full meeting of Filey Town Council is also set to discuss co-opting a new member.

​The ordinary meeting of the authority at 7pm, on Wednesday (January 14) will consider applications for a ‘casual vacancy’ that arose following the resignation of a councillor in November.

In addition to a public participation session, allowing residents to contribute questions or thoughts, councillors will also hear from the North Yorkshire Council (NYC) councillor for the Filey Division, Sam Cross.

​Members of the authority are set to discuss “a request in relation to a community bus service and the NYCA draft report titled ‘Filey Bus Service’ received on January 6, and agree on appropriate action”.

​However, the report has not been published on the council’s website.

​Last year, the MP for Thirsk and Malton, Kevin Hollinrake, tabled a parliamentary question about bus services in Filey.

​Mr Hollinrake asked the Secretary of State for Transport “whether she has had discussions with Filey Town Council on the return of the Filey Town Centre Bus”.

​Simon Lightwood MP, a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Transport, replied: “The government believes that local authorities, working with bus operators, are best placed to determine and design local bus networks in their area, and the government does not intervene in local decisions regarding individual bus routes or services.”

​According to the agenda, a North Yorkshire Police Report will be considered and “questions may be asked if a police officer is attending”, followed by updates from the Interim Town Clerk.

​​In November, Paula Shillaw was appointed as interim town clerk and the responsible finance officer.

​Other agend items include approval of the minutes from the previous meeting, and a decision on whether to award a £2,000 grant to Filey Museum.
