Glasgow Rangers confirmed their first signing of the January transfer window on Sunday with the arrival of Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz on a permanent deal.

The defensive midfielder is due to compete for a place in the middle of the park at Ibrox for Danny Rohl and has arrived at the perfect time after an injury to Connor Barron.

Left-back Tuur Rommens has since become the second addition of the month, and he will not be the last one to come through the door, as the Gers are also closing in on the signing of Andreas Skov Olsen.

It had recently been reported that the Gers made an offer to sign the former Club Brugge star on loan, and there has now been a key update in their pursuit of his services.

Rangers book medical to sign star

According to Tips Bladet, Glasgow Rangers have reached an agreement with Wolfsburg to sign the Denmark international on loan until the end of the season.

The report claims that the right winger is due to undergo a medical with the Scottish Premiership giants on Wednesday, before being unveiled as their latest signing.

It adds that the two clubs have also agreed on an option to make the deal permanent in the summer, although the fee remains unknown, which means that Skov Olsen could sign permanently after his loan spell.

The left-footed star looks set to be an exciting addition, given his statistics in the graphic above, but there must also be some caution because of his form for Wolfsburg this season.

Skov Olsen, per Sofascore, has scored two goals and provided no assists in ten appearances in all competitions for the German side, which means that he is not set to join Rangers as a player who is confident and at the peak of his powers.

The SPFL star who would be a better signing than Skov Olsen

At the start of this month, The Scottish Sun reported that the Light Blues were considering a move to sign Motherwell central midfielder Elliot Watt to add to their midfield ranks.

If Rangers decide to make an offer to sign the Scottish star and win the race to bring him to Ibrox, the Motherwell star would be an even better signing than Skov Olsen.

As exciting as the Dane is, due to his goal contributions in previous seasons, there is still that slight concern over his form this term and the fact that he has never played in Scotland before, which means that it is impossible to say how he will adapt to the division.

Watt, meanwhile, is currently in phenomenal form in the Premiership with Motherwell, winning Player of the Month for December, which means that the Gers would be signing a player who can hit the ground running as an instant star, due to his form and his Premiership experience.

Stats via Sofascore

As you can see in the table above, the 25-year-old star has completed over 500 more passes than any other Rangers player in the division this season, and more than any other midfielder in the league, which speaks to his ability to control games with his passing.

Analyst and writer Kai Watson described Watt as “the best midfielder in the league” this season, and it is hard to argue with that when you consider that he has the most passes completed in the league, four goals and three assists, and averages 3.5 tackles and interceptions per game, per Sofascore.

He can do a bit of everything in the middle of the park, as evidenced by his strong statistics as a passer, an attacker, and a defender, and that is what makes him such a valuable player for Motherwell.

It is also part of the reason why he would be an even better signing than Skov Olsen for Rangers this month, because he can influence games in all phases, in his own third, in midfield, and at the top end of the pitch, whilst the winger, naturally, is only likely to consistently impact games in the final third.

Throw in the fact that Watt is also a proven Premiership performer who can arrive at Ibrox and hit the ground running as a player who already knows the division and would not need time to adapt, and it seems clear that he would be an even better addition for Rohl’s team if they can get a deal done.
