Despite the best efforts of paramedics who gave CPR at the scene, the victim tragically died a short while later. A man, aged 33, has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been taken into custody to be questioned by detectives.

Forensics were seen combing the property throughout the day on Monday as they conducted investigations. A cordon was put in place, blocking off a walkway at Kempston Gardens. A police officer could be seen standing guard at a ground floor entrance to a building within the scene.

Pictures showed a large cordon in place, with multiple CSI vans also in attendance. Forensics dressed in white suits focussed their attention around one building and were seen removing evidence bags.

Greater Manchester Police say they are now working to identify the woman to inform her next of kin following the incident. There is no threat or risk to the wider public.

Detective Inspector Louise Kelly of the Major Incident Team at GMP said: “Our priority at this time is identifying the female and informing her family as soon as we are able to. Specialist officers will be available to support them throughout this investigation.

“A murder investigation has been launched and whilst we currently have a man in custody, there is a police cordon in place, and we are conducting enquires to establish the circumstances which have led to this tragic incident. We understand that an incident of this nature may cause concern within the community however we believe there is no wider risk to the public.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police via 101 or the LiveChat at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 863 of 19/01/26. Information can also be given anonymously by using the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
