The final chapter in Prime Video’s science fiction epic is now just weeks away
Fans of Prime Video’s grisly sci-fi show The Boys have just weeks to wait until the fifth and final instalment hits screens.
A trailer released last night (March 5) offered a glimpse at the spiralling action to come after Season 4 charted supervillain Homelander’s (Antony Starr) ascent to becoming the most powerful person in the world.
Not only does he now have control of the shady superhero-spawning company Vought International, but he treats the Oval Office like it’s his own living room. The next step? Chasing immortality.
Season 5 will see him seek out the very first iteration of the mutant-forming serum Compound V, which appears to grant the user immortality and even more potent powers. In the trailer, he states: “My power is absolute. At heights no one’s even dreamed of, but I have a bigger destiny.”
However, standing in his way is vigilante group The Boys who now have Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) among their ranks. Initially appearing in spin-off series Gen V, the powerful young superhero agreed to join the resistance at the end of Season 2, setting up the events of The Boys’ fifth series.
She joins Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and his group of rebels as they attempt to eradicate superheroes with a virus developed in secret at Marie’s own university. If used, Billy would die, as would his friends Starlight (Erin Moriarty), A-Train (Jessie T Usher) and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara).
Prime Video’s synopsis for the upcoming season reads: “Homelander controls America through fascist terror, imprisoning dissenters in Freedom Camps. Butcher, Hughie, Annie and The Boys mount a desperate resistance against insurmountable odds to stop his tyrannical rule.”
When is The Boys Season 5 coming out?
Thankfully fans don’t have much longer to wait as the new season arrives on Prime Video on April 8. The first two episodes will be made available at once, with the rest of the episodes released weekly until the finale on May 20.
Reacting to the fresh trailer, one fan penned: “When this show is good it’s like some of the best TV out right now. The tonal whiplash is insane but I kinda love that I never know if I’m about to laugh, cry, or stare at the screen.”
A second joked: “Man it would be such a missed opportunity for them not to advertise this season as Season V.” A third remarked: “Please give Antony Starr an Emmy for his role as Homelander.”
The Boys Season 5 will be available to stream on Prime Video from April 8. For the latest showbiz, TV, movie and streaming news, go to the new **Everything Gossip** website.
