Strictly’s Shayne Ward making soap comeback six years after tragic Corrie death – and he’s joined by real life fiancee
SHAYNE Ward is making a surprise return to soap land six years after his dramatic exit from Coronation Street.
The Strictly star, who left the ITV soap in 2018 following his character’s tragic death, is set to join another drama — this time alongside his real-life fiancée.
He shot to fame in 2005 after winning The X Factor and went on to have a successful music career.
In 2015, he made the switch to acting, landing the role of Aidan Connor on the Cobbles.
His emotional storyline, which ended with his character’s suicide, touched viewers across the nation.
Now, Shayne is set for a soap comeback, which will thrill fans who have missed him on their screens.
Shayne starred in Corrie as factory boss Aiden for three years, leaving the ITV soap in a heatbreaking hour-long suicide storyline episode.
He most recently appeared in Channel 5 crime drama The Good Ship Murder with ex-Corrie co-star Catherine Tyldesley.
In soon to be cancelled Doctors – Shayne will play a character named Kenny Webb.
His real life fiancée & former Hollyoaks actress Sophie Austin is listed as a character named Sandra Horner
The Sun previously revealed how the long-running medical drama has been axed by BBC bosses after two decades on air
The legendary medical drama’s last episode airs in December.
Announcing the end of the show, a BBC spokesperson previously said: “We have taken the very difficult decision to bring daytime drama Doctors to an end after 23 years.
“With super inflation in drama production, the cost of the programme has increased significantly, and further investment is also now required to refurbish the site where the show is made, or to relocate it to another home.
“With a flat licence-fee, the BBC’s funding challenges mean we have to make tough choices in order to deliver greater value to audiences.”
Before then he will continue to impress on the dancefloor on Saturday nights.
Shayne made his debut last weekend during a notoriously tricky samba with his dance partner Nancy Xu, grooving around the dance floor to the Stevie Wonder hit, Do I Do.
The Manchester-born star won the second series of X Factor in 2005, competing against Andy Abraham, who finished in second place, and Journey South, who took third.
He then won a recording contract with Simon Cowell’s Syco label and went on to release several successful singles.
Shayne’s biggest hits include That’s My Goal, which was his debut single and reached number one in the UK.

Bake Off judges in hysterics as competition returns with innuendos | Culture
The Great British Bake Off has returned for 2024 and with it comes the ever-so-familiar innuendos.
Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, along with several contestants were in hysterics during Tuesday’s series debut (24 September), when Alison Hammond made reference to a contestant’s hen cake.
Georgie, a chicken nurse from Carmarthenshire, created a showstopper cake of her pet hen, Fanny.
Alison asked the judges: “How does Fanny taste guys?”
The question was met with lots of laughter, before Prue replied: “I think it’s absolutely lovely.”

Shocking moment controversial MAFS UK groom Alex’s ‘wife swap’ secret is exposed as first dinner party explodes
MARRIED At First Sight UK will see its most dramatic scenes of the series so far as groom Alex Henry’s ‘wife swap’ scandal is exposed.
Wednesday night’s first dinner party of the current run descends into chaos, as a sneak peek clip at the end of tonight’s episode showed.
Viewers will recall how Alex courted controversy during the stag do when he admitted to the other grooms, as well as bride Charlie who joined them on the stag, that he would be open to ‘wife swapping’ if he didn’t gel with who he is paired with.
He said: “I need to be mentally stimulated. What if I am not totally attracted to my wife? And there is another lady I’m attracted to.”
He then continued: “You go into this and you have to consider every option, have you not?”
The rest of the group reacted in horror to his confession, as did viewers watching at home who slammed him on social media for his crass remark.
So far, however, Alex’s bride Holly Ditchfield – who wed him on Monday night’s episode, has been in the dark about his comments.
But that is all about to change when she meets the rest of the couples for the first time at the first dinner party.
As the preview clip shows, she is soon filled in on what her new husband said before he met her.
The footage of the next instalment sees Holly announcing: “He has made a comment that he would swap wives.”
“Ross told me that,” chips in fellow bride Sacha Jones.
Alex is then showing saying to pal Orson: “When I start seeing things I don’t like, time’s up.”
The action then jumps ahead to the couples sat around the dinner table, where Holly yells at Alex: “I’m not coping with someone who is so f***ing disrespectful. Never would a man be around my kids who speaks like that.”
As Alex scowls, the other couples look on in horror.
“Let me tell ya, Let me f***ing tell ya,” Holly continues as she gets up from the table.
“Cool, yeah, walk on” Alex dismisses, as Eve comes over to comfort a fuming Holly.
“Straight out the door mate, ” Holly then snaps back as she storms out the room.
Married At First Sight continues tomorrow night at 9pm on E4 and streams on Channel 4.
Mafs couples that have stood the test of time
Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.
The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.
Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.
Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.
Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”
Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.
Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.
“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.
“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’
“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”
Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.
Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.
They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.
Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

Phillip Schofield to make shock return to television in ‘secretly filmed’ desert island show
Phillip Schofield is set to make an unexpected return to television 16 months after exiting ITV over his widely reported affair scandal.
The former This Morning host has kept a low public profile since last summer, when he admitted to having an affair with a younger male colleague.
The Sun reported on Tuesday that the 62-year-old has secretly filmed a Channel 5 special, titled Cast Away, which sees him marooned on a tropical island for 10 days.
The tabloid shared screenshots from the series of Mr Schofield looking grizzled in a dirty grey t-shirt and a white beard.
“Over the past few months Phil has had quite a few offers for various things – but has steadfastly turned them all down,” a source told The Sun.
“This sort of challenge has always appealed to him though and after consulting with friends and family, he decided to go for it. It’s all been top secret, and has been an incredibly quick turnaround in order to keep the news quiet.
“After 42 years on telly, Phillip has learnt from some great crews and teams on how to film and tell a story.
“With 10 days to himself, no camera crews or production around, he shot some unbelievably raw footage – some of it makes for tough, emotional viewing.
“But he wanted a chance to share his story, unedited and honest, and let viewers see another side to him.

“Whilst this is a massive coup for Channel 5, and huge for Phillip, he’s in no rush to come back to TV full-time yet; he remains very bruised, and is just taking some time now to weigh things up before he makes any major decisions.”
Channel 5 teased the special on Monday with a clip showing just the back and legs of an unnamed celebrity as fans guessed who it might be.
The broadcaster captioned its post: “Coming Soon to Channel 5… A celebrity marooned on an uninhabited tropical island off the coast of Madagascar for 10 days is challenged with total isolation, the forces of nature, and the battle within their own mind.”
Cast Away airs over three nights beginning 30 September.
The news comes hours after Mr Schofield posted the message “watch this space” to his Instagram story, alongside a winky face emoji.
The series will be Mr Schofield’s first time on television since he sensationally left ITV last year following 20 years with the broadcaster.
Mr Schofield’s presenting partner Holly Willoughby left This Morning after 14 years in October 2023, explaining her decision as one made “for me and my family”.
In a statement at the time, Mr Schofield said he had had a “consensual on-off relationship” that was “unwise, but not illegal”.
He apologised for the affair, which happened while he was married to his wife of 30 years, Stephanie Lowe.
