Dow Cuts Loss in Half As Volatile Week Continues
A volatile week for the stock market continued on Friday.
The Dow was down 217 points, or 0.5%, after falling more than 500 points earlier in the afternoon. The S&P 500 was down 0.4%. The Nasdaq Composite was down 0.7%. All three were rallying off their lows from earlier in the session.
The CBOE Volatility Index, or VIX, spiked as high as 19.27 before pulling back. The 20 level is viewed as a threshold for the VIX. Once it breaches 20, the the market’s fear gauge begins to signal heightened levels of volatility.
