An historic law firm that can trace its roots back to 1810 has opened an office in Gloucestershire. Warwickshire-headquartered Brethertons said its new Cheltenham site was part of its continued regional expansion strategy and would strengthen access to legal services across the county.

The new office, in Montpellier, follows the recent opening of the firm’s Bloxham base and brings Brethertons’ total number of permanent locations to four – in Rugby, Bicester, Bloxham and Cheltenham.

“The expansion represents the latest milestone in the firm’s long history and reflects continued investment in both its client offering and regional presence across Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire,” the company said in a statement.

The Cheltenham office will offer legal services including wills, trusts and estate planning, court of protection work, family law, divorce and finance, life-changing injury and property services including residential conveyancing.

Alison McCormack, chief executive of Brethertons, said the new Gloucestershire office would allow the firm to “meet clients where they are” in environments that “reflect who we are as a firm”.

“It’s an exciting step forward for both our teams and the local communities we’re proud to support,” she said.

Linda Jones, director of legal services, who has been with the firm for more than 37 years, added: “We may be new to Cheltenham, but supporting clients with their legal needs is something Brethertons has done for generations. We’re delighted to bring that experience and personal approach to the Gloucestershire community.”

Earlier this year Brethertons sponsored Cheltenham Literary Festival and was also named as one of The Times’ ‘Best Law Firms’ for the second consecutive year.
