Florida Woman Not Charged Following Fatal Walmart Parking Lot Shooting

Melissa Payne will not be charged after she shot a man dead at point-blank range. Payne will not be charged for the shooting death of 62-year-old Bart Diguglielmo, due to the state’s stand-your-ground law, per ABC News. The shooting occurred in a North Lauderdale, Florida, parking lot in June over a parking spot dispute.

Broward State Attorney’s Office Homicide Trial Unit Division Chief Stephen Zaccor announced the decision in a memo on Tuesday, September 3.

“A dispute over a parking space,” wrote Zaccor. “In a Walmart parking lot. The facts surrounding the June 30, 2026, homicide of Bart DiGuglielmo are as tragic as they are absurd. There is relatively no dispute about what actually happened because the entire incident was captured by various video recording devices.”

The Broward County State Attorney’s Office said that prosecutors were not able to prove Payne wasn’t in fear of great bodily harm or for her life during the altercation, according to The Miami Herald.

Video Captures Walmart Parking Lot Shooting

Video of the dispute and subsequent shooting shows Diguglielmo leave his car in a travel lane after he tried to take the same spot as Payne. In addition, multiple witnesses said they heard him threaten her. Additionally, one witness claimed he was “visibly angry” as he looked at Payne.

DiGuglielmo reportedly threatened to “mess her car up” and “**** her sh*t up” before he got back into his car and sped off, only to return soon after. Payne was with her niece and niece’s baby at the time of the altercation, and she got out of her car with a gun in her hand. She held her phone in the other hand as she reportedly spoke to her husband. Payne told DiGuglielmo to leave her alone. In addition, the video shows her backing away repeatedly as she points the gun at him. However, he didn’t stop moving until Payne fired.

The memo states:

“If you keep coming up to me,” said Payne, per the ABC. “I’m going to ******* shoot you!”

Zaccor also said in the memo that Payne was in a public place where she had a right to be.

“A Walmart parking lot, and therefore was in a place she had a right to be…. therefore she was not doing anything unlawful at the time she used deadly force,” he wrote.

Man Who Murdered Trayvon Martin Used Stand Your Ground Law As Defense

As The Shade Room reported, George Zimmerman, the man who murdered 17-year-old Trayvon Martin as he was walking home from the store with a bag of Skittles, used the law to argue self-defense.

Zimmerman was a neighborhood watch volunteer when he approached Trayvon on his way home back in 2012 in Stanford, Florida. An altercation reportedly ensued, and he shot the unarmed teenager to death. However, he was found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter. Zimmerman claimed he feared for his life under the stand-your-ground law.

A Miami-Dade Circuit Judge later ruled that lawmakers overstepped their authority when they modified the law that year to force prosecutors to disprove self-defense claims.

King Von’s Son’s Mother Shakema Springfield Takes The Stand In Lil Durk’s Trial, Calls OTF Vonni A “Liar”

The latest testimony in Lil Durk’s trial brought someone close to King Von’s family to the stand. Shakema Springfield, the mother of Von’s son, testified in court and pushed back on claims previously made by OTF Vonnie. Springfield calls Vonnie a “liar” as she shared what she remembers from the days surrounding King Von’s death.

Shakema Springfield Speaks On King Von’s Memorial & OTF Vonni’s Testimony

On Thursday, September 3, the mother of King Von’s son, Shakema Springfield, took the stand during Lil Durk’s trial and shared her account of the events surrounding Von’s death and memorial. According to Los Angeles Magazine journalist Taylor Parise, Springfield also pushed back on testimony from Kavon Grant, also known as “OTF Vonnie,” calling him a “liar.”

Springfield testified that King Von and Vonni were very close and spent time together daily. She also said Vonni had control over some of Von’s finances.

Springfield also spoke about being at King Von’s memorial with family for three days. According to her testimony, Lil Durk was never there, and she said she did not hear any conversations about getting revenge for Von’s death.

That testimony reportedly conflicts with what Vonni previously told the court. He testified that Durk was present at the memorial and that the two discussed a revenge plot, Taylor Parise reports.

Springfield also recalled asking Vonnie who killed King Von. She testified that Vonnie responded, “He told me not to worry about it, and he’s going to take care of it.”

Springfield served in the U.S. Army for 10 years and shares a 6-year-old son with the late rapper King Von.

Social Media Reacts

Following Springfield’s testimony, social media users shared mixed reactions to her statements and their potential impact on Durk’s case.

Asian Doll & Kayla B Go Back & Forth Amid Trial Updates

Meanwhile, Asian Doll, King Von’s ex-girlfriend, has also been vocal amid the ongoing trial. The rapper recently took to X with a cryptic message, writing, “Seeing all this sh** make my head hurt frfr when you know the REAL” followed by a 100 emoji.

While Asian didn’t provide additional context, social media users quickly connected the post to the latest developments in Lil Durk’s trial.

Following Asian’s post, as well as the recent testimony from OTF Vonnie and Shakema Springfield, things got a little heated between Asian and Kayla B, King Von’s sister. The two women went back and forth during a TikTok Live, with both addressing allegations and statements surrounding her late brother.

The exchange comes years after Asian and Kayla have publicly clashed over Asian’s past relationship with King Von.

How to Cool Your Bedroom Without AC

GettyImages-2229741785 10 Tips on How to Stay Cool During a Heat Wave, According to Heat and Weather Experts

Your apartment turns into an oven by mid-afternoon. By bedtime, no amount of fan-pointing or pillow-flipping brings relief. You wake up groggy, sweaty and frustrated.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Record-breaking summer heat is making it harder than ever to sleep well, especially for renters who can’t control their building’s insulation or install permanent cooling upgrades. Meanwhile, a wellness trend called sleepmaxxing promises better rest through optimized habits and environments.

You don’t need an expensive setup to practice good sleep hygiene. Many of the most effective strategies for creating a comfortable sleep environment cost little or nothing. What follows breaks down what the science says and what you can actually do about it tonight.

What Is Sleepmaxxing?

Sleepmaxxing is the practice of layering habits, products and environmental changes to maximize sleep quality. It has gone viral on social media, with people trying everything from magnesium supplements to mouth taping and blackout curtains.

Stanford sleep specialist Clete Kushida told National Geographic that interest has surged as people connect sleep to overall health and use wearable trackers to monitor their rest. “People are sleepmaxxing because they want to find ways of maximizing their mental and physical health, or they are having sleep difficulties and are looking for an easy solution to fix it,” Kushida said.

Related: 10 Expert Tips on How to Stay Cool and Safe During a Heat Wave

When a heat wave settles in, the difference between comfort and a medical emergency often comes down to preparation. Extreme heat sends people to emergency rooms in surging numbers on major and extreme risk days, and simple steps taken early can keep a dangerous stretch from turning into a crisis. Staying cool and hydrating frequently […]

What Is the Perfect Temperature for Sleep?

Most experts recommend keeping your bedroom between 65 and 68°F, according to the Sleep Foundation. Individual preferences vary, but cooler air helps your body complete a natural process: shedding heat through the skin as you drift off.

A 2022 analysis published in One Earth reinforces the point. Researcher Kelton Minor and his team tracked more than 47,000 participants across 68 countries and found that elevated nighttime temperatures delayed sleep onset and reduced total sleep duration.

Why Do Hot Bedrooms Make It Harder to Sleep?

Heat disrupts sleep in measurable ways. A 2023 study monitoring older adults at home found that rest was most restorative between 68°F and 77°F. Above that threshold, sleep efficiency declined by 5 percent to 10 percent.

Minor’s team saw consistent results on a global scale. After analyzing over 7 million sleep records, they found that above-average nighttime heat reliably cut into sleep duration across climates and income levels. “What we found is that warmer than normal nights erode human sleep. And this is a global phenomenon,” Minor said on the Flash Forward podcast. On the hottest nights in the study, those above 85°F, people lost roughly 15 minutes of sleep.

Are Overnight Temperatures Getting Worse?

Yes. July 2026 set the record for the hottest month in the contiguous U.S. Average overnight lows reached 64.2°F, landing 3.7°F above the historical norm, per the National Centers for Environmental Information.

The trend is expected to continue. The EPA projects that nights staying above 70°F will grow more frequent in the years ahead. Less overnight cooling means buildings hold heat longer, which makes a cool bedroom harder to achieve without intervention.

Does Air Conditioning Solve the Problem?

It helps, but cost is a real barrier for renters. Running AC overnight adds up fast, and in hot-climate markets that expense can be difficult to sustain all summer.

The impact of that gap is well documented. A 2017 study led by Nick Obradovich surveyed roughly 765,000 U.S. adults and found that warm nights correlated with worse sleep. The effect hit people earning under $50,000 more than three times as hard as higher-income groups. The researchers pointed to nighttime AC costs as one likely explanation.

Climate Central vice president for science Kristina Dahl told Scientific American, “We know that people in wealthier countries are losing less sleep when it’s hot, and that’s likely due to having means to cool your home.”

Related: Why Hot Nights Are More Dangerous Than Hot Days During a Heat Wave

Heat wave coverage almost always focuses on scorching daytime highs, but the more dangerous story is unfolding after sundown. As a punishing heat wave grips the eastern United States and the Southwest bakes at temperatures above 100 degrees, more than 180 million people fall inside Level 3 or Level 4 heat risk zones tracked by […]

How Do You Cool Down a Room Without AC?

Start by blocking heat before it enters. Static-cling solar film is renter-friendly, removable and relatively cheap. Applied to sun-facing windows, it reduces the solar heat that builds up during the afternoon so you need less AC later.

Other low-cost strategies include drawing your curtains or blinds before the sun reaches your windows, running fans to circulate air and create a wind-chill effect, and opening windows after dark when outdoor temps drop below indoor levels.

What Are the Cheapest Ways to Keep a Cool Bedroom at Night?

Focus on your sleep surface. A cooling mattress pad or bed-cooling system targets where your body actually contacts heat. Breathable or moisture-wicking sheets can also make a noticeable difference for just the cost of a new set.

Pair that with daytime prevention like window film, closed blinds and fans. You can build a cool bedroom without relying on air conditioning alone. The most effective sleepmaxxing strategy isn’t always the most expensive. Sometimes it’s about stopping the heat before it starts.

Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland’s First Epic Deserves a Rewatch 9 Years Later

Published

on

Brother Diarmuid looking back at something in 'Pilgrimage' (2017).

2026 is chock-full of box office breakouts, but Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey are the biggest winners. Christopher Nolan‘s take on the iconic Greek epic recently became the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history, while the web-slinger’s latest adventure is on track to be the biggest movie of the year. Beyond critical and commercial success, both movies also feature Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal in key roles, further cementing them as part of Hollywood’s current A-list. What most movie fans might not know is that Holland and Bernthal first joined forces in a brutal historical epic nine years ago.

That epic is named Pilgrimage. Set in medieval Ireland, Pilgrimage follows a group of monks, including the young Brother Diarmuid (Holland), charged with bringing a holy relic to Rome. The monks’ journey is complicated by warriors who seek the relic, including the malevolent Raymond de Merville (Richard Armitage). Thankfully, the monks have a warrior of their own: a mute man (Bernthal) who possesses incredible fighting skills. Now that Pilgrimage is streaming, fans of Holland and Bernthal’s work can see their first movie.

‘Pilgrimage’ Is a Bold, Bloody Meditation on Faith

Pilgrimage draws its audience’s attention through scenes of escalating violence, as the monks and the Mute struggle to complete their mission. Much of this violence is committed by the Mute, who makes up for his lack of words with an abundance of bloodshed. Beyond that, the movie explores the nature of faith, specifically the great or terrible things people will do in its name. Most of the monks on the mission believe the relic holds its holy nature because it was struck by lightning yet remains intact. Merville, on the other hand, wants the relic for the King of England so that English forces can be bolstered by that belief. Director Brendan Muldowney said he was drawn to Pilgrimage for its themes of faith, which mirrored his own upbringing.

“I think that themes dealing with faith and a belief in God are always relevant and never go out of date. I was brought up in a country that still had the church very firmly in control of society. Not so much now, but I saw the use of fear to control, and I also witnessed hypocrisy as certain revaluations came to light in recent years.”

In addition to its bloody violence and deep themes, Pilgrimage is carried by Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal, who deliver the best performances in the movie. Bernthal has to stay silent for most of Pilgrimage’s runtime, but he lets his body and facial expressions do the talking. Whether it’s a grimace of pure rage or quiet contemplation, the audience can feel the emotions radiating off his body. Holland delivers a more nuanced performance, as Brother Diarmuid ultimately rejects the relic and takes a new approach to his faith. While Holland showed plenty of range in The Odyssey, Pilgrimage was the first movie that truly put his talents on display.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal Continue To Work Together After ‘Pilgrimage’

While Pilgrimage had a limited theatrical rollout, it started a long tradition of Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal working together. In fact, it’s the movie that helped them land roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Bernthal was auditioning for The Punisher while Holland was in the running to play Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Bernthal went into more detail when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, sayinghe advised Holland to show off his athletic prowess. Holland took his advice and landed the role of Spidey; nearly a decade later, the duo would join forces in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Much like Pilgrimage, Spider-Man: Brand New Day pits Holland and Bernthal against each other, with Holland playing a man struggling with his beliefs and Bernthal playing a man who excels at violence. The difference is that Bernthal’s performance as Frank Castle has him using far more words than he did in Pilgrimage, while Holland brings a new dimension to his performance as Peter Parker. Anyone who loves the duo’s dynamic in Brand New Day or The Odyssey should watch Pilgrimage.

18-Year-Old Taylor Chan Allegedly Helped Daejon Love Fake Millions In Investment Gains

Taylor Chan, an 18-year-old boy, is reportedly in hot water alongside apparent scammer Daejon Love, who allegedly swindled at least 26 women out of $1.3 million. Between fake investment accounts and multiple identities, Love allegedly used dating apps to develop romantic ties with women. Then, he allegedly convinced them to invest or lend him money.

The victims were reportedly spread across California and Oregon. And now, The Shade Room’s Justin Carter is diving in for ‘TSR Investigates,’ sharing all that allegedly went down.

18-Year-Old Allegedly Helped Daejon Love Fake Millions In Investment Gains

Daejon Love allegedly told women he was from Switzerland and that he was born into one of the world’s richest families. Additionally, he alleged that he had signed with the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL. However, due to an alleged finger injury, he wasn’t able to get on the field.

Using his plot, Love reportedly developed romantic relationships with women. Furthermore, he alleged he wanted to settle down and build wealth with them. Per Carter, he allegedly did so by persuading victims to send them cash or to take out personal loans.

But that wasn’t all. Daejon Love allegedly used 18-year-old Taylor Chan to run his schemes. Per Carter, Chan allegedly portrayed himself as Love’s financial advisor and used falsified investment gains to also persuade victims to invest their money.

More On The Fake Millions & Investment Gains

According to Carter, one victim sent $2,000 in cash to the pair. And when they allegedly learned she had $10,000 in savings, they threatened to physically harm her until she gave it to them.

Inside Lindsay Clancy’s Defense Team’s Emergency Appeal

Published

on

Lindsay Clancy Is Scared as Jury Deliberates in Her Murder Trial Says Lawyer

Shortly before a Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial in the Lindsay Clancy case, her defense team filed an emergency appeal asking for the removal or further questioning of an allegedly biased juror.

“Petitioner asks this court to order the Plymouth County Superior Court, in Commonwealth v. Lindsay Clancy … to inquire into the ability of the identified juror to apply the law or prohibit the further deliberations of a juror identified by the jury foreperson as biased and refusing to follow the court’s instructions on reasonable doubt unless and until the court determines by individual voir dire that the juror is willing and able to follow the court’s instructions,” read court documents submitted on Friday, September 4, and obtained by Us.

According to the appeal, which was ultimately denied by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, Clancy’s team stated that the jury’s foreperson indicated to the judge that one of the jurors “has acknowledged doubt but is refusing to apply it to the case.” The dispute kept the jury deadlocked 11-1 after deliberating more than 36 hours following a nearly six-week trial held at Plymouth County Superior Court.

Clancy’s team argued that “a juror’s refusal to follow the law is always personal” and “not a matter of protected deliberative privilege.”

Clancy, 36, was arrested in January 2023 and charged with the strangling deaths of her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan. She then jumped from a second-story window of her home in an apparent suicide attempt and was paralyzed from the waist down.

She never denied killing her kids but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Clancy’s defense argued that she had been suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder at the time, while the prosecution argued that the murders were premeditated.

“Removal is particularly important because the juror’s reasoning reflects a bias against those who suffer from debilitating mental illness,” the docs continued. “Intervention is necessary in this case to avoid an avoidable mistrial of a case that is so time and labor intensive and that has captured so much public attention. It is also necessary to preserve the Defendant’s right to a fair trial by unbiased jurors applying the law and to avoid violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments and Article 114, which makes mental illness a protected category.”

The filing concluded, “A mistrial at this point is entirely avoidable, but only if the court does its job.”

Judge William Sullivan shared his intention to declare a mistrial during a hearing on Friday and granted Clancy’s defense, Kevin Reddington, one hour to seek an emergency stay.

The mistrial was made official after Reddington’s appeal was denied.

“I’m kind of a history buff and during World War II, Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of England when England pretty much stood against Nazi Germany alone,” the judge said while addressing the jury. “So Churchill [often] had to talk to the citizens and let us brace for our duties. I always like that phrase, and I thought of that phrase when all of you were agreeing to be on this jury. You agreed to brace for that duty and each one of you knew how long the case was going to go, you knew how difficult the case was going to be to listen to, facts-wise. But still, you braced for that duty.”

He continued, “I watched every day, day after day, week after week, [and] all of you [were] performing that duty that you braced for. And I kind of wanted to let you know: I understand how hard everyone worked in this case. I understood you all gave everything you could and probably more than you thought you could … I just want to thank you so much. You should be proud of what you did. You braced for that duty. You performed that duty.”

Another hearing has been scheduled for September 29. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said the prosecution will decide whether to retry the case against Clancy in the future.

Phaedra Parks Shares Her Honest Review of Alan Cummings New Traitors

It turns out that The Traitors castle can spark murder, deceit — and love.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Phaedra Parks confirmed on the Friday, September 4, broadcast of SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live that she’s dating season 2 costar Chris “CT” Tamburello.

“Are you dating? ‘Cause I heard you were going to the Emmys with a date. Is this a platonic thing?” Lewis, 56, asked Phaedra, 52, who coyly replied, “No, it’s not.”

Phaedra told the radio host that she has “been out” with CT, 46, in the past, although she declined to share how many dates the pair have enjoyed.

Phaedra also shared their plans for the weekend, revealing that they will attend the Creative Arts Emmys — where CT is tasked with presenting — on Saturday, September 5, in Los Angeles and then head to New York together.

She played coy when asked whether she and CT would have any “sleepovers” together this week.

Phaedra and CT notably met while filming the second season of Peacock’s hit series, which aired in 2024, and formed a close-knit bond. In fact, many faithful viewers and fellow contestants alike thought the pair had a certain amount of chemistry.

Phaedra Parks is not that impressed with Alan Cumming’s new Traitors. “It’s the third episode and [the faithfuls] figured out two Traitors already, so I’m not sure if they are overplaying their hand because they’re coming in hot quite a bit,” Parks, 51, exclusively told Us Weekly on Wednesday, January 15, when partnering with Silk. […]

“I ship it,” costar Peter Weber exclaimed during an exclusive interview with Us at the time. “I think they’re really cute together. They had some good chemistry. Who knows what the future holds with them?”

CT, for his part, ultimately shut down the romance rumors, stressing that he and Phaedra were simply friends.

“Nothing real happened, I’ll be honest with you,” CT told Entertainment Weekly in March 2024, addressing the speculation. “It was fun. I loved her because she’s a cornball. She was great. I would say there was a sense of sincerity, for sure. But it was also playing a game, you know?”

He continued at the time, “Honestly I have too much respect for her to try to turn it into something it’s not, just to try to be a flash in the pan. I don’t think that would be fair, I don’t think that’s the right thing to do. I mean, what would I do, move to Atlanta? I can’t do that.”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta has said goodbye to many cast members since its Bravo debut in 2008 — but there’s always a chance they could return. For instance, original RHOA star NeNe Leakes left the show in season 7 before rejoining the cast in 2018. “It’s been a long process but we’ve finally reached […]

During the game, Phaedra was tapped as a Traitor opposite CT’s role as a Faithful. He eventually cast a vote to banish the Bravolebrity from the game before winning the entire show. (CT was crowned the champion alongside Trishelle Cannatella. The pair opted to split the cash prize.)

“It’s a really good [game]. I have to say, it takes working smarter not harder to a new level in this game,” he told EW of his Traitors participation. “I really enjoyed it because it was more of a political game. It wasn’t just who’s the fastest, or the strongest, or who could swim the deepest, or who has the guts to jump out of a perfectly good plane or get thrown off a cliff. It’s different. I did appreciate this game because … there was a lot more deeper strategy as time evolved.”

Prior to his relationship with Phaedra, CT has been married twice: to Lilianet Solares from 2018 to 2023 and Catalina White from 2024 to 2026. (CT and Lilianet share a 10-year-old son.)

Phaedra, meanwhile, shares two sons with ex-husband Apollo Nida, to whom she was married from 2009 to 2015.

General Hospital: Steve Burton Confirms Recast Twist — Jerry Jacks Back?

Published

on

General Hospital: Steve Burton - Sebastian Roche

Hey, General Hospital fans. So, recently on his podcast, Steve Burton aka Jason Morgan piqued fan curiosity. Because he said he’s shooting scenes with an actor who has taken over an established role. That means there’s a recast on set. But there were not a lot of clues otherwise.

So, of course, everybody’s wondering who is this recast. Because it sounds significant. Today we’re going to talk about who this mysterious recast might be and why General Hospital would even bring back the role.

General Hospital Recasts Need to Know Their History

So, I did like hearing the Jason actor saying that it’s important for a recast actor to know the character’s history. Because Burton said it makes it a lot easier for them to take on the role. Plus, with so many characters like Jason and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and others, there’s just decades of history there.

And if a new actor hasn’t gotten up to speed, they’re not going to play off of other characters correctly. For instance, if they had recast Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst), and I’m not saying they did, that’s not what this is about. But just if they had, and he came in and was having a chill vibe with Jason, that wouldn’t make any sense because those two have a lot of history. All of it’s negative. So, that’s the kind of thing that comes through when you know your character history.

With that in mind, Burton said, “There’s this new guy that just came on General Hospital.” And he said, “There’s been scenes between Jason and this actor’s character.” And Steve Burton said he asked the other actor if he could give him some info about the character history to maybe make things easier on him.

Major GH Return Coming Soon

Thankfully, Burton said the actor was all for it. So, apparently this is a guy who General Hospital brought in, who’s been acting for a long time. He’s had some prime-time work. It’s somebody who fans are going to be super excited to see and more importantly, they’re going to be excited to see the character he’s taking on. So, let’s dive in and talk about who this recast character might be that’s having all these scenes with Jason Morgan.

Jasper Jacks Returns to General Hospital?

So, one big possibility because of the JJE storyline is that General Hospital could have recast Josslyn Jacks’ (Eden McCoy) dad, Jasper “Jax” Jacks (Ingo Rademacher). Now, this I feel is the least likely. But maybe because the role has been vacant since General Hospital forced Ingo Rademacher out over the COVID vaccine.

That was the same time, same reason that Steve Burton stepped away from General Hospital. Burton’s back because he negotiated a graceful exit. But I doubt they’ll bring back Ingo as Jax at any point because he sued Disney over the vaccine related termination. And usually when an actor sues a network, they won’t work with them again.

Networks don’t like to work with the litigious. But given all the name drops about Jax lately, we have to consider it could be a recast actor playing Josslyn’s dad. And Jax does fit the bill in terms of having scenes with Jason because they’ve got lots of history with Carly being their primary commonality.

Jax in Trouble on GH?

So, if it is a Jax recast, that would make sense. But based on the mysterious and sudden disappearance of Jax from his life and him sailing around on the world, I feel like that may be a lie and he may have been the victim of some sort of foul play. You know, Josslyn’s dad may be tied up on a sailboat somewhere or in a holding cell somewhere. But we don’t necessarily need to see him.

And all of this could be because somebody wants access to JJE and maybe somebody took Jax and they may know that Joss is WSB and wouldn’t take this CEO job. So the perp might have sent Hudson Parker (Troy Lennon Appel) there to get Joss to sign over control of JJE so they can move forward with some sort of sketchy plans.

Jerry Jacks Back on General Hospital?

But again, I actually don’t think it’s going to be Jax. Another character I would be excited to see back is Josslyn’s evil uncle, Jerry Jax. That being said, I would much prefer to have Sebastian Roché back in the role than a recast actor, even a really good one from prime time. However, Sebastian is extremely busy shooting a bunch of projects and he probably wasn’t available or wasn’t willing to take soap salary when he is getting paid to do other things.

I think he’s been on 1923 and a bunch of other stuff. So, Jerry is a character who has scenes and a deep history with Jason. Plus, Carly just name-dropped Jerry talking about the upgrade on the Metro Court security after he attacked the place years ago. And maybe Jax is missing and Jerry’s responsible because Carly did speak to Jax and told him their daughter was WSB. But they didn’t talk after that.

And Carly had no idea Jax was going to give Joss the company or that he was going to go sailing around the world. It’s kind of hinky that he didn’t mention that to her. Not that I can remember her mentioning. So, there is a possibility maybe Jerry is back and has disappeared his brother.

General Hospital Villain Hint

And of course, we have Hudson showing up out of the blue saying Jax wants Josslyn to take over as CEO of JJE. And our leaker said Hudson is not the next big villain. But is connected to the next big villain. So, that is one big red flag. Jerry’s a villain for certain.

So, if they have recast him, Hudson may be his front man. And while Hudson has been nice to Joss, we did see him pummel Ethan Lovett (Christian Howard). He’s clearly terrified of him. And of course, Jerry’s a mega-villain who tried to wipe out all of Port Charles. And Jax didn’t condone anything Jerry did, especially when his brother held a bunch of people hostage in the Metro Court.

That was back in 2007 when he was trying to rob the vault. And since the WSB has Joss looking into subsidiaries of JJE, maybe this all ties back to Jerry and that could be why Hudson is pushing to get Joss to let somebody else take over the company because he’s operating on orders from Jerry Jacks.

Jerry Jacks Return Likely on GH

And I wouldn’t put it past him to be holding his brother Jax hostage. A lot of fans would love to see Jerry return. But it would be an absolute bummer if Sebastian Roché was gone for good. But if this is the recast Steve Burton mentioned, if we are getting Jax’s evil brother back, I would be pretty excited to see who’s playing him.

Now, another potential recast option to consider is Nikolas Cassadine. He and Jason have definitely crossed paths many times over the years, so they could certainly have scenes together. And with Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) in prison and Laura Collins (Genie Francis) heading to Ireland, she could bring her grandson, Ace Cassadine (Jay and Joey Clay), back. And if so, then it would make sense to bring back a recast Nikolas for his son.

His prison sentence should be done. With Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) out of the coma, Nikolas might want to come check on her. After all, Nik, if you remember, wanted to donate some of his liver to save Lulu’s life. And that was the last time we saw him when Nikolas was tested and then found out he couldn’t donate and was totally bummed. And since we’ve had six different versions of Nikolas, including several temporary fill-ins, a new face to replace Adam Huss, who was the last Nikolas we saw, you know, wouldn’t be that big of a deal.

Nikolas & Britt Reunion on General Hospital?

And there are rumors that Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and Jason will not last. They’re supposed to reach an endpoint soon. So, bringing back Nikolas to be Britt’s love interest could be really intriguing. And Jason had lots and lots of interactions and history with Nikolas.

So, I think that aligns with what they’re saying, but I don’t know. Feels like a long shot. I would like to see him back, especially with Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) trying to buy Wyndemere at the police auction in mid-September. It would be an interesting dynamic to see Nikolas coming back and maybe wanting to buy Spoon Island out from under him.

However, if it was my preference, I’m leaning towards them recasting villainous Jerry Jacks. And because Carly name dropped Jerry out of nowhere and Jax’s being unreachable, I feel like those are all possible signs. There was a lot of things that Carly could have said about her security system, so name-dropping Jerry feels intentional. We’ll find out soon.

How to Pick the Right ChatGPT Model

Published

on

How to Pick the Right ChatGPT Model

A single email doesn’t need the same firepower as a full market analysis — and Hollywood already learned that lesson the hard way.

When Denis Villeneuve’s team needed to keep the Fremen’s blue eyes consistent across roughly 1,000 shots in Dune: Part Two, they didn’t hand the whole problem to one all-purpose AI system. According to Foundry, they trained Nuke’s CopyCat tool on artist-made assets for that one specific job — eye color continuity — and left everything else, from color grading to full VFX composites, to different tools built for those tasks. Around 40% of the AI-trained shots needed no further cleanup at all.

That’s the approach Hollywood has quietly settled into industry-wide. Netflix’s $600 million AI filmmaking partnership splits its tools by task: custom models for visual effects, separate systems for automated color grading and dialogue cleanup, and a different set of tools entirely for pre-visualization. Lionsgate has deployed AI across more than 80% of its workforce, but not as a single tool — it runs Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, and Snowflake side by side, each one handling a different kind of work. Nobody in the industry is trying to get one model to do everything.

It turns out that’s also the exact mistake a lot of everyday ChatGPT users make.

An Email Isn’t a Market Analysis

Anyone who uses ChatGPT regularly has likely run into both situations. A task that sounds complicated gets finished in a few seconds. Another prompt, one that seemed simple at first, needs several rounds of adjusting before it lands. The prompt isn’t always the problem. Often, it comes down to which model is handling the task.

That’s the case for thinking not just about what gets asked of ChatGPT, but which model is doing the answering — and whether that model actually fits the job.

Consider a typical workday. The morning brings an inbox message that’s far too long, when all that’s really needed is the three most important points and a short reply. Speed matters most here, and a model built for complex reasoning is often overkill for a job this small. By the afternoon, the task looks different: comparing several documents, spotting the differences between them, and drawing conclusions from what changed. Here, a few extra seconds of processing time matters far less than whether the model actually understands how the information connects.

That’s why it’s worth testing different ChatGPT models rather than defaulting to the most powerful option out of habit. The better approach is choosing based on the task itself: a short summary, a longer analysis, coding work, or something where several steps need to build logically on one another.

ChatGPT tends to be most useful on tasks made up of several smaller steps rather than one large, vague one. A business report is a good example. The instruction “analyze this report” is quick to type, but it leaves far too much undefined.

A short workflow usually works better. First, ChatGPT extracts the key metrics and statements. Next, it identifies what changed compared to the previous year. Only in a third step does it move on to possible explanations or the questions those numbers raise.

Breaking the work into stages has a second benefit: interim results can be checked immediately. An error spotted in the extracted numbers can be corrected before it works its way into a full analysis — not unlike the way Hollywood’s VFX teams check whether an AI-trained shot needs manual cleanup before it moves further down the post-production pipeline.

A Good Answer Can Still Be a Wrong One

Even a highly capable model shouldn’t get a free pass on verification. Numbers, program code, and anything a later decision will rest on are worth double-checking before they’re trusted outright.

The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology takes the same position. Its framework for generative AI addresses how organizations can deploy AI reliably while managing the risks that come with it — which, depending on the application, can include human review, testing, and verification of whatever the model produces.

The Takeaway

In practice, the rule is a simple one. A short, clearly defined task can start with a fast model. But when the job involves large amounts of information, more complex relationships, or reasoning that has to build across multiple steps, it’s worth reaching for a model actually designed for that kind of work.

Hollywood didn’t need a $600 million deal to arrive at that idea — just a willingness to match the tool to the shot instead of running everything through the same system. The same logic holds at a desk with ChatGPT open: the fast model for the email that needs a quick reply, the more capable one for the report that actually needs untangling.
