America’s Next Top Model’s Tyra Banks, Jay Manuel Fallout Explained
Netflix’s tell-all docuseries about America’s Next Top Model allowed Tyra Banks and Jay Manuel to finally address their infamous falling out.
Created by Banks, America’s Next Top Model aired across multiple networks from 2003 to 2018, following aspiring models as they competed for the title of “America’s Next Top Model” and a chance at a lucrative modeling career. Manuel, 53, joined America’s Next Top Model in its first cycle in 2003 as the Creative Director. He was featured on every cycle of the show for nine years but ultimately didn’t return — along with Nigel Barker and Miss J. Alexander — after his contract wasn’t renewed for season 19.
Banks, 52, remained on the show as an executive producer but she was briefly replaced as the host. She returned for season 24, the show’s final season before it was canceled on VH1.
Issues behind the scenes ultimately led to Banks and Manuel’s falling out, which he addressed in Netflix’s docuseries Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model. Keep scrolling for the biggest revelations — including where they stand now:
What Initially Led to Tyra Banks and Jay Manuel’s Falling Out?

In the three-part special, Jay Manuel recalled realizing he needed to step away from the show after season 8.
“There was a time when the creative of the show started to shift. We were supposed to be showing the behind the scenes of what the fashion world was — helping change the industry,” he said.. “But the show had evolved in a way I had never expected.”
Manuel “really struggled over some of the things” that happened — including photoshoot concepts such as the “race swapping” idea. “That was something that was slowly depleting me and chipping away at my soul,” he noted. “It was time to tell Tyra I wanted to leave the show.”
While discussing his time on the show, Manuel noted that there was a “version” of him on the show that was “not really” him.
“Tyra would always reinforce, ‘We need to keep it entertaining. We need to keep people watching.’ Of course there were gob smack moments where you watch, and you’re like, ‘Oof,’” he said. “But it was certainly not my place to tell them.”
How Did Jay Manuel Tell Tyra Banks He Was Leaving ‘America’s Next Top Model’?
“Tyra and I weren’t the traditional work relationship when you work in such close proximity and are traveling together. I was afraid of saying the wrong thing. And I definitely did not want to make her upset,” Jay Manuel explained. “I tortured myself over the decision. It did not come lightly. I didn’t discuss it with anyone.”
Miss J Alexander, meanwhile, didn’t realize what Manuel was planning. “He [keeps] everything to his chest,” he explained. “He’s very secretive.”
Manuel wanted to tell Banks personally about his exit, sharing, “I knew that I had to tell her first. So I sent her the email just expressing the utter gratitude for this opportunity and to be able to help her realize I was trying to move on in my own life and career.”
Banks “didn’t respond” for three days before just writing back, “‘I am disappointed.’” After that email, Manuel recalled how “all communication just stopped” before he was pressured into coming back for at least one more season.
Why Did Jay Manuel Return to ‘America’s Next Top Model’?

“There was a warning that strikes the fear of God in you. People talk about being blacklisted. Those words were not used but I had suspected that that’s what it would turn into,” Jay Manuel said in the three-part special. “I didn’t know who to talk to because the person I would always talk to was Tyra. I thought I could fix that.”
How Was Jay Manuel’s Relationship With Tyra Banks When He Returned to ‘America’s Next Top Model’?
Before coming back to film, Jay Manuel hadn’t “spoken” to Tyra Banks.
“I was extremely nervous. I just wanted to [talk to her] real quick [before we started filming]. That was the first time I really realized there was a real problem. She wouldn’t speak with me,” he claimed. “On camera, we learned to play and laugh but it was just clear that I was not allowed to speak with her outside of that.”
Jay Manuel compared the experience on set to “psychological torture.”
“After that first day, I thought there is absolutely no way I’m gonna survive the cycle,” he continued. “I just felt broken.”
What Did Tyra Banks Reveal About Her Falling Out With Jay Manuel?
Producers asked Tyra Banks about her and Jay Manuel, to which she replied, “I prefer … I should call Jay. I don’t want to do this here. But he’s a special man.”
How Long Did Jay Manuel Remain on ‘America’s Next Top Model’?

“My job had changed. I no longer was producing creative. The only thing I was responsible for producing per my contract is the final runway. I was now just on camera talent,” Jay Manuel shared. “I started really paying attention to what was starting to happen behind the scenes. That is where I started to learn the art of storytelling.”
Manuel questioned how authentic the show was, adding, “If there were certain girls that were not performing well on a shoot, I would sometimes be pulled aside and say, ‘OK, with this person we have this story. We need them to go forward at least a couple more episodes.’ Because if the photos are just crappy, it’ll become hard to say, ‘This person deserves to stay in the competition.’”
What Led to Jay Manuel’s Exit From ‘America’s Next Top Model’?
In 2012, America’s Next Top Model experienced a palpable shift after the network head changed. Tyra Banks was forced to hop on a call with the network, at which point she was instructed to fire Miss J Alexander, Jay Manuel and Nigel Baker.
“I remember them saying, ‘We’ve decided we’re gonna go in a completely different direction,’” Manuel recalled. “It was like being slapped across the face and slapped right back. [They compared it to] cutting the fat off the show that was bringing the ratings down.”
Manuel continued: “When I wanted to leave, I wasn’t afforded that. And then I work on the shows from cycles 10 through 18. I made so many concessions. That’s the part that’s the most hurtful.”

Jay Manuel and Tyra Banks’ issues intensified when news about his firing was leaked to the public.
“We were going to put out one joint press release, and they said we would all get a quote in this press release,” he recalled. “We see it all the time in television shows, people saying, ‘So and so and so and so have decided to part ways.’ And Tyra, she’s like, ‘We’ll put out in our press release how we’re going to continue to work together.’ So we agreed to that.”
After being robbed of the ability to “move forward in their career with grace,” Manuel, Miss J Alexander and Nigel Baker appeared in an interview addressing the firing where they were asked if they felt “blindsided” by the decision.
“We had to speak very carefully, contractually at the time,” Manuel shared. “There are only certain things you could speak about around the production and what you legally could say.”
Banks also weighed in on how her working relationship with Manuel concluded.
“It was probably some of the hardest news I have ever had to deliver, in my existence,” she said. “I cried myself to sleep that night. You know? They were there from the beginning. They were some of the closest people to me in my life and I had to deliver that news that the deal is up and that it’s over. You can imagine what that feels like.”
She continued: “But bosses have bosses, and the big boss was very clear — there are no sacred cows. And I heard that meaning, ‘You too, Tyra. So pick up the phone and do what I’m telling you to do.’ And the thing is, I don’t believe that they knew that it came from above. No matter how much I was explaining, ‘This was not our decision.’ To this day, I think they think that it was me.”

Which The Pitt Stars Are, Aren’t Returning for Season 3 After Exits?
The Pitt has been renewed for season 3, but the news has been overshadowed about who is — and isn’t — coming back after multiple cast exits.
When the medical drama premiered on HBO Max in January 2025, viewers were excited to see Noah Wyle play a doctor again more than after ER. It didn’t take long for Us to fall in love with the entire cast, including Dr. Robby (Wyle), Dr. Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), charge nurse Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Javadi (Shabana Azeez).
Season 2 looked a little different when most of the cast returned — except Ifeachor. A source told Us Weekly in July 2025 that it was always the plan for Ifeachor’s character — who was a fourth-year resident in the first season — to go on and be a doctor in future installments of the show.
The insider noted that due to the nature of The Pitt, Dr. Collins wouldn’t be in season 2, but Ifeachor “didn’t choose to leave the show” and isn’t aware of “any doors being closed” on a possible return.
The same reasoning was used when news broke that Ganesh wouldn’t reprise her role in season 3. Off screen, fans have expressed frustration at multiple beloved characters not returning for more episodes.
Keep scrolling to see which The Pitt stars are returning for season 3 — and which aren’t:

There’s no The Pitt without Noah Wyle’s character, Dr. Robby, so he is expected to return.
Tracy Ifeachor

After leaving the show, Tracy Ifeachor addressed whether she could be back in the future.
“It was just such a joy and a pleasure to play Dr. Heather Collins and to know that my character has been so phenomenally well-received. It just blew me away,” Ifeachor told Us in September 2025. “I don’t know where she will be on the weekend of next season, but I know where I’m going to be, which is on my next project, which is just so amazing. But I take the lessons that I’ve learned from playing Dr. Heather Collins — playing this character who goes through such a traumatic event and still shows up every day for other people.”
She continued: “[No one] stops to ask if she’s OK, if she needs time out, if she needs to run away. I think as a woman, sometimes we carry a lot of emotional labor without even knowing it. I’ve learned that through this character, so I wouldn’t change that. This experience has been so life-changing, really.”
Patrick Ball

Season 2 showed Langdon returning to work after struggling with drug addiction, which presumably will continue to be explored.

Promotional footage has also confirmed Fiona Dourif’s involvement in season 3.
Isa Briones

Isa Briones is expected to come back as Santos in season 3.

According to HBO Max’s season 3 announcement video, Shabana Azeez is returning as Javadi.
Sepideh Moafi

Sepideh Moafi joined the show in season 2, but her future as Dr. Al-Hashim is unclear.

After playing a member of the night shift crew, Ayesha Harris got promoted to a series regular for season 3.

28 Years Later, Steven Spielberg’s WWII Masterpiece Returns to Streaming
Every other week, streaming platforms release content aimed directly at dads, be it shows such as Reacher and Bosch, or new spin-offs in Taylor Sheridan‘s Yellowstone universe. Recently, the same demographic has enjoyed the Russell Crowe-led historical drama Nuremberg, which grossed nearly $50 million at the worldwide box office in its theatrical run and then became a word-of-mouth hit at home. The movie holds a phenomenal 95% audience score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Older male audiences are typically drawn to procedurals and period dramas, which is why movies and shows in which men get the job done perform well on streaming. There is no better example of this sub-category than Steven Spielberg‘s celebrated World War II epic Saving Private Ryan, the ultimate dudes-rock movie.
Released in 1998, the film redefined the genre with its gritty camerawork and sweeping anti-war sentiment. Saving Private Ryan is widely regarded as the greatest World War II movie ever made; it won Spielberg the Best Director Oscar and was nominated alongside fellow WWII epic The Thin Red Line in the Best Picture category. The movie now holds a 94% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics’ consensus reads, “Anchored by another winning performance from Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg’s unflinchingly realistic war film virtually redefines the genre.” In addition to Hanks, the movie featured a sprawling ensemble including Matt Damon, Edward Burns, and Tom Sizemore.

Here’s Where You Can Watch ‘Saving Private Ryan’
Saving Private Ryan was a massive box-office hit, grossing more than $480 million worldwide against a reported budget of $70 million. This was nearly five times as much as The Thin Red Line. Saving Private Ryan remained the top-grossing WWII movie of all time until it was overtaken by Christopher Nolan‘s Dunkirk, which was subsequently overtaken by Nolan’s own Oppenheimer. Spielberg and Hanks reunited as executive producers on a trio of WWII drama shows inspired by Saving Private Ryan — Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and Masters of the Air. Hanks also co-produced and starred in the WWII thriller Greyhound, which is set to receive a sequel. You can watch Saving Private Ryan on Paramount+ this month. 15. Ready to Walk: Not all cute sandals are easy to walk in, but somehow LifeStride created something that’s the best of both worlds. The brand’s flashy silver slingbacks provide plenty of support and cushioning, and thanks to sturdy straps, they’ll stay on your feet, even as you trek around town — was $55, now $42!
16. Buckle Up: Double-buckle slides are the warm-weather staple you’ll be seeing everywhere from now through fall. This option isn’t just easy to throw on — the wool-blend upper is softer than plastic alternatives, so you won’t have to worry about nursing painful blisters after you take them off — was $99, now $40!
17. ’90s Vibes: These low-profile Reeboks were inspired by soccer shoes, but that doesn’t mean you need to wear them with moisture-wicking shorts or other athleisure staples. The chunkier design is ideal for balancing out feminine pieces, and will toughen up A-line skirts or make floaty dresses feel more casual.

The Chosen Star Defends How Show Differs From the Bible
The Chosen has found success depicting the life of Jesus Christ on TV — but the show has also taken some liberties with the source material.
“The writers do such a great job of exploring the humanity [of each character] first vs. what they’re known for nowadays,” Joey Vahedi, who plays apostle Thomas on the Prime Video series, told Us Weekly exclusively while reflecting on adapting events from the Bible. “If people were asked who these figures are, they probably automatically think of the stained glass windows that they’ve seen growing up.”
He continued: “But when you actually look at who they were as human beings, Peter is a fisherman who does some not great things. Thomas was trying to make some money and have a successful business. Matthew was someone that’s portrayed as on the spectrum. They come at it from these very human experiences. That’s what makes it so successful. Because people feel like they can relate.”
The historical drama debuted in 2017 and showcases Jesus’ life through the eyes of the people who interacted with him — including his apostles and disciples, Jewish religious leaders, Roman government and military officials and ordinary people.
In addition to Vahedi, 35, The Chosen stars Jonathan Roumie as Jesus alongside Shahar Isaac, Elizabeth Tabish, Paras Patel, Noah James, George H. Xanthis and more.
While speaking with Us, Vahedi opened up about how his relationship with faith hasn’t wavered since the show’s first season.

“I don’t know if it necessarily has [changed], but I always say if it has affected somebody else in that way — if it’s someone who either was already a person of faith and it’s strengthened that for them or if it’s helped them to look at it differently — I think it is really, really important in today’s day and age,” he explained. “We look at it through what the actual meaning is, which is to love one another and care about one another. Or if it’s had people that watch the show who are not people of faith — which I believe is a third of our audience — it’s great in all of those aspects. If it works for people, it works.”
Vahedi reflected on the unique project, adding, “It’s rare that a show has this much impact on people — and for people that are not people of faith. … I encourage everyone to just look at it as a period piece. One of our producers, I remember he once said to me, ‘People don’t believe in dragons, but they watch Game of Thrones and still enjoy it.’ Same thing with this. It’s just about a group of people who are trying to make a difference in the world and they’re being oppressed while they’re doing it.”
The actor also explained how filming season 6 was “very different” from past years.
“Things are a little more disjointed in the story and people are starting to panic and not know what’s going on. It’s a scary moment for all the disciples,” he teased.
Season 6 of The Chosen will premiere on November 15 in the U.S. and internationally. Following the first three episodes, the show will air weekly until the season finale, which is a stand-alone theatrical release slated for spring 2027.
“It’s going to be one of the most epic things — cinematically — that we’ve done. … We [might be] coming to the finish line, which makes it bittersweet. Because this has been the greatest gift I could have ever had,” Vahedi told Us. “It’s been such a gift for me to do this. Sometimes chapters do need to come to a close so that way we can appreciate the journey that we went on.”
The Chosen is currently streaming on Prime Video.

Jen Shah Shares Shocking Update On Her Relationship Status
“Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” alum Jen Shah was released from prison in December 2025 after serving over two years for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Now, months after her release, not only has she apologized to the victims of the years-long telemarketing scheme, but the “RHOSLC” alum is now opening up about some of the troubles in her marriage.
Shah, 52, has been married to Sharrieff Shah, 55, since August 1994. The “RHOSLC” alums share two children.
Jen Shah Opens Up About The Troubles In Her Marriage

Shah broke her silence about her life behind bars and the events leading up to it in an interview with PEOPLE. During the emotional conversation, Shah also revealed that she and her longtime husband were edging closer to a divorce amid her legal woes.
The “RHOSLC” alum said, “My husband and I were separated. We were on the verge of a divorce. I was overwhelmed with immense grief from the death of my grandmother, my father, and my aunt, all in a very short period of time. I was spiraling deeper into my previously diagnosed clinical depression.”
Shah went on to note that making a marriage last for multiple decades is challenging for couples. According to her, “Nobody’s married for 32 years, and it’s all perfect, right? So [I say] we were separated and going towards a divorce because I don’t want our relationship [to look] like, ‘Oh, it’s all perfect.’ We put in hard work to get there.”
She added, “The thing about Coach and I is that our anchor is our faith. And a big part of our faith is the sanctity of marriage. I think people believe the hard thing to do is to get a divorce. The hard thing is to stay together. You have to put real work in.”
The ‘RHOSLC’ Alum Says Her Marriage Is Better Now

Luckily for the Shahs, their marriage has improved after the struggles they faced leading up to her prison stint. She said to the outlet, “He’s one of a kind. Most people would have run away, most people would have left. … I’m so grateful and so blessed that my husband and my children were there for me.”
The mom of two then said, “My family has come closer together through all of this. [My] marriage is stronger than it’s ever been, and my children and I, our family unit as a whole, is just closer than we’ve ever been.”
After that, she shared an adage from their marriage, saying, “Coach has a saying: ‘We’re going to love each other through it. No matter what obstacle we’re facing, no matter what we’re dealing with, I’m just going to love you through it. And we’re going to love each other through it.’ And that’s kind of been our family’s mantra.”
Fans Are Reacting To Shah’s Post-Prison Interview

Shah has kept a relatively low profile since being released from the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. Because of this, there has been considerable anticipation for her first public thoughts since being reunited with her family. Regarding the reaction, “RHOSLC” fans are mixed, with some saying she’s not being accountable enough.
First, one person reacted to Shah’s comments about her marriage. They said on X, “Strong love like that doesn’t break; it only gets stronger.”
Someone else reacted to the interview as a whole, writing, “I really don’t think Jen Shah is remorseful or sorry for what she has done. And she just needs to go away. Don’t bring her back to the show.”
Another person reacted to the section of the interview where she discussed the food in prison. They said on X, “Someone should see how well the victims of her crimes are eating. Especially the ones she took everything from, and they ended their lives…freaking sociopath.”
Still, others would like to see her back on “RHOSLC.”
Jen Shah Posted For Their Anniversary In 2025

Shah was sentenced to 78 months in prison in January 2023. Ultimately, she served 33 months of the lengthy sentence. While behind bars, she managed to retain some connection with the outside world, including statements from her management and various social media posts.
According to PEOPLE, the “RHOSLC” alum posted on Instagram in August 2025 to celebrate her 31st wedding anniversary.
She said in a caption, “Happy 31st Anniversary today to me and my baby. Words cannot express how much I love and appreciate you. You bring so much joy to my life & I am forever thankful for your overwhelming love and support as we approach this next chapter. Thank you for blessing me with two amazing young men.”
Shah continued, “I love you so much & can’t wait to hold you again soon.” Notably, this was before it was announced that she would be released from prison in December.
Heather Gay Accused Shah’s Husband Of Flirting With An ‘RHOSLC’ Co-Star

Shah was one of the original cast members on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” as was Heather Gay. According to US Weekly, in her 2024 book, “Good Time Girl,” Gay accused Shah’s husband of having tried to kiss Monica Garcia, who appeared on “RHOLSC” following Shah’s exit.
Notably, Garcia was Shah’s assistant, which served as her connection to the group. Following the claim, all involved parties have denied that Shah’s husband attempted to kiss Garcia.
