‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Bounces Back After “Exhausting” Review Bombing
To the delight of millions of dearest gentle readers, the hugely popular period drama Bridgerton returned with the first half of its fourth season last week. An instant and inevitable hit on the streaming charts both in the U.S. and worldwide, Bridgerton‘s return wasn’t all smooth sailing, as the show first fell victim to waves of review bombing on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. Despite boasting a “certified fresh” 80% score from critics, the audience rating initially fell as low as 34%, although it quickly climbed up to 52% by the end of the day.
Now, following a weekend in which most will have completed their binge-watch of Season 4, Part 1, this audience score has risen to 69%. Despite some calling the new season “exhausting” on the review site, it seems the general positive reaction to this latest installment is beginning to outweigh the negativity. One user said, “Season 4 might be the best season so far,” whilst another wrote, “This Cinderella-inspired story is layered with slow-burn sexual tension, and I’m loving every bit of it.” The critics’ consensus on the site reads, “Taking a page out of a fairytale, Bridgerton season four excels at selling a fantasy that, no matter how predictable, is as sweet, steamy, and engrossing as ever.” A synopsis for Bridgerton Season 4 reads:
“Season 4 follows the titular clan’s second-oldest sibling, Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson). Benedict meets his captivating romantic interest at his mother Violet’s (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball in the first episode of the new season. The thrilling clip at the top of the page captures the moment Benedict first spots the mysterious Lady in Silver — unbeknownst to him, her name is Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).”

With audiences warming to the latest season of Bridgerton, how are critics reacting to the latest hunt for love in high society? “Despite any minor drawbacks, Season 4 is already raising the bar for Bridgerton thanks to a compelling new lead in Yerin Ha, a bigger spotlight on one of the most underappreciated classes in the Regency series’ society, and a continued dedication to prioritizing the primary reason viewers keep tuning in time and time again: the seemingly insurmountable journey to a happily ever after.” wrote Carly Lane in her review of Season 4, Part 1 for Collider, in which she awarded a strong 8/10 score.
