Fans didn’t expect to see Candice King and Steven Krueger find love years after finding fame in The Vampire Diaries universe.
King rose to fame playing Caroline Forbes on TVD from 2009 to 2017. Krueger, meanwhile, played the role of Josh Rosza in The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals. During her time on The CW series, King started dating Joe King. The couple, who got married in 2014, expanded their family with daughters Florence in 2016 and Josephine in 2020.
Us Weekly broke the news in May 2022 that King filed for divorce from King. She later started spending time with Krueger at TVD fan conventions and cast reunions.
In December 2023, King subtly launched her romance with Krueger on social media when she uploaded a video that included a clip of them kissing. King and Krueger have since offered glimpses into their romance.

April 2023
Krueger shared a group photo that included King in Us‘ Inside a Day in My Life feature.
“We’ve all moved on to new projects, but we still jump at the opportunity to catch up any chance we get,” he told Us alongside a snap of him sitting next to Accola at dinner alongside their other former costars, including The Originals’ Charles Michael Davis.
That same month, Krueger hinted at his plans for parenthood, telling 26 Magazine, “A family is definitely in my future, as well.”

“I’ve been dating. I am going to say that out loud. That feels very personal and new and interesting and super cool and casual to say out loud. But I have,” King said on an episode of her “Superbloom” podcast. “Not multiple people — only one. And I don’t even want to get into it.”
King hinted she had a “really nice person” in her life, adding, “This is not brand new. This is the most you are going to hear me talk about it. It is good. There’s a smile on my face and joy in my heart.”

“I laughed. I cried. I laughed til I cried. I loved. Thanks for the dance 2023 🥂,” King wrote alongside the various videos from the year, including a brief clip of her and Krueger sharing a kiss.
January 2024
King took to Instagram Story to document her attempt to spot Krueger in the background of red carpet footage at the Emmys. The actress posted multiple clips of other celebrities being interviewed before she finally found — and zoomed in on — Krueger outside of the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.

King uploaded several Instagram photos of Krueger spending time with her and her daughters while the actress was on location filming season 1 of We Were Liars.
October 2024
For Halloween, King and Krueger dressed up as Taylor Swift and Post Malone in the “Fortnight” music video. “Who uses typewriters anyway? #thetorturedboyfriendsdepartment 🖤🤍,” King captioned a clip via Instagram set to Swift’s Tortured Poets Department song.
December 2024
“December, you sure kept me on my toes 😂 From Mystic Falls to Paris to Florida… It’s been a beautiful adventure but I’m officially ready for that sleepy week between Christmas and New Years 👏 anyone else? ✋,” King wrote via Instagram alongside photos of her and Krueger kissing.
That same month, Krueger joined King and her two daughters — whom she shares with her ex-husband — on a trip to Florida.
May 2025
“I think 38 just might be my favorite year yet 🎂 ♥️ A couple of weeks ago @stevenakrueger gave me the best gift of all when he asked me to marry him. The privilege of getting older is much sweeter knowing I get to share it with you Steven. Thank you for asking me to dance through life with you. And thank you to everyone for the kind birthday wishes,” King wrote via Instagram.
Months later in December, King revealed that she is pregnant with her first baby with Krueger.
February 2026
King and Krueger tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on February 28, according to Vogue.
“Walking down the little aisle, I remember hearing the soft sounds of live guitar being played by a friend of a friend that we’d never met, the flowers making this tiny wooden chapel feel like a fairytale greenhouse, and the warm glow of light on Steven’s face,” she recalled to the outlet in April. “We’d already done a first look at our house, but walking down the aisle in that warm glow of the magic hour felt like our own little secret. Like the rest of the world kept turning in chaos, and we had this small little nook of the world to ourselves. Time slowed down and felt like a love song.”
