CBS’ First ‘Fire Country’ Spin-Off Quietly Sets Streaming Competition Ablaze After Just 1 Season
Late in January, the Max Thieriot-led and executive-produced procedural Fire Country received the green light for a fifth season, according to reports. Although one of CBS’ best shows, the news came as a small surprise to some following confirmation that longtime showrunner, Tia Napolitano, would not be returning following Season 4. Able to breathe a sigh of relief, attention could now return to the ongoing fourth season for fans, as well as the continued success of the premiere season of spin-off Sheriff Country.
The explosive success of Sheriff Country is thanks in no small part to Morena Baccarin’s Sheriff Mickey Fox, who is proving the perfect leading face for a procedural that seems to be going from strength to strength. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the series boasts an impressive 75% score, with one critic writing, “Sheriff Country has already set up some good stories and rivalries in its first episode, and Baccarin strikes the right tone as a person who wants to keep her hometown safe.”
Last week, the series returned following an achingly long winter hiatus, with Mickey, Boone (Matt Lauria), and Travis (Christopher Gorham) thrown straight back into the action, as was seen in Collider’s exclusive sneak peek. On Friday, March 6, the series debuted its penultimate episode, “The Aftermath,” with Mickey uncovering a shocking conspiracy that runs deep into Edgewater’s justice system. Now, just one episode remains, and, ahead of the finale, Sheriff Country continues to prove popular. At the time of writing, the series is officially one of the ten most-streamed shows on Paramount+ in the U.S. A synopsis for the finale, “Plus One,” reads:
“When a violent home invasion turns out to be the result of a deadly batch of synthetic weed sweeping through Edgewater, Mickey and Boone race to contain the chaos; Cassidy uncovers disturbing new clues in her sister’s disappearance case.”

‘Sheriff Country’ Is Outperforming ‘Fire Country’
As the finale of both shows approaches, Sheriff Country is reportedly outperforming Fire Country by one very important metric. According to current data, Sheriff Country is earning more viewership than its predecessor by quite some margin. For the latest episode, the spin-off received 5.03 million viewers, compared to Fire Country‘s 3.75 million. This has been consistent ever since Sheriff Country debuted to roughly 200,000 more viewers.
Sheriff Country returns on March 13. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming stories.
