Denise Richards is getting honest about the ups and downs of the complex co-parenting dynamic she built with her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen. 

Following a highly public divorce, the actress prioritized sheltering her children from the surrounding media frenzy and personal conflict. 

Now, as their adult daughters navigate their own relationships with their father, Richards is opening up about her efforts to preserve their father-daughter connection.

Appearing on a recent episode of Bunnie Xo’s “Dumb Blonde” Podcast, 55-year-old Richards offered a candid look into how her daughters, Sami and Lola, relate to their father, Charlie. 

The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star, who was married to Charlie from 2002 to 2006, emphasized that throughout their widely publicized divorce, her primary focus was protecting her children. 

She noted that she always encouraged her daughters to know Charlie simply as “dad” rather than the Hollywood figure dominated by tabloid headlines.

“During our divorce, which was so public, I wanted the girls to have their relationship with him without any negativity around it,” she said. 

While she shielded Sami and Lola during their formative years, Richards believes her now-adult daughters would benefit from having direct, transparent conversations with him about their past. 

She expressed hope that as time goes on, her daughters will feel secure enough to ask Charlie open questions about their upbringing, addressing the unresolved moments from their childhood directly with him.

“In my opinion, I feel there’s still like the elephant in the room that they’re all not addressing,” Richards confessed. 

“And I hope one day that they feel comfortable enough and safe enough where they could just be open and say certain things,” she concluded.

While Richards continues to advocate for open family dialogue, financial issues have already created personal distance between Charlie and his eldest daughter. 

According to The Blast, the 22-year-old content creator rejected online assumptions that her father has funded her lifestyle. 

“These comments make me so frustrated because this man has not given me a dime in over four years,” she lamented. 

Pushing back against comments implying she relies on a trust fund, Sami noted that her independent career as an adult content creator fully covers her bills and housing.

Despite past financial disputes and lingering distance between Sami and Charlie, an unexpected turning point emerged through a shared look back at Charlie’s turbulent past.  A wave of hope for a future reconciliation washed over fans following the premiere of aka “Charlie Sheen.” 

The project gave viewers an intimate look into the personal toll of Charlie’s past behavior. Among those deeply moved by the release was Sami, who took to social media to share her raw emotional reaction to the moving project.

Posting a TikTok video of herself in bed shortly after watching the series, she wrote, “I didn’t know I was the reason he got sober,” per The Blast.

Following Muldoon’s sudden passing, Sami publicly paid tribute to the late star on Instagram. She posted a photo of the sky featuring clouds that appeared to form a heart shape, as reported by The Blast.

The caption read, “Right after he passed, I was sitting outside begging for a sign from him to let us know that he’s okay and made it to the other side, and then a couple of minutes later, I looked up and saw this in the sky.”

Months after Sami shared the emotional tribute on Instagram, her father found himself dealing with loss too, albeit a different kind.  

The Blast reported that in early July, Charlie resolved a major financial dispute with his third ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, agreeing to pay her a significant lump sum of money. 

The former couple, who share two sons, reached a formal agreement following months of court proceedings over long-standing child support claims. 

Mueller had initially asked for over $15 million. However, following negotiations, the “Two and a Half Men” star committed to paying $250,000 on or before Friday, July 10, with the remaining $250,000 balance due by September 1.
