DC’s Booster Gold Series No Longer Moving Forward at HBO

One of DC Studios’ most anticipated television projects has officially hit a major roadblock.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is no longer moving forward with its planned Booster Gold series, which had been in development under Our Flag Means Death creator David Jenkins. The news was confirmed by Jenkins himself in a post on Threads, ending months of speculation surrounding the future of the project.

Jenkins wrote:

“My Booster Gold won’t be moving forward.”

The project was originally announced as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s first wave of DC Universe projects in January 2023. The series was expected to follow Michael “Booster” Carter, a fame-seeking athlete from the 25th century who travels back in time and uses advanced technology to become a superhero. Gunn previously described the concept as an “outright comedy,” making it one of the more unique entries in the new DCU slate.

Jenkins was brought aboard in 2025 to write the pilot and serve as showrunner, replacing an earlier creative direction. However, despite development continuing behind the scenes, HBO has decided not to move forward with the series in its current form.

While this version of Booster Gold has been shelved, that does not necessarily mean the character’s future in the DC Universe is over. James Gunn has repeatedly emphasized that DC Studios is committed to only moving projects forward once scripts meet the studio’s standards, leaving the door open for Booster Gold to return in another form down the road.

For now, fans hoping to see the time-traveling hero make his live-action debut in the DCU will have to wait a little longer.
