Emma Roberts Defends ‘Weird’ Wedding Outfit
Emma Roberts is pushing back against the mixed responses to her very unique wedding attire!
The Hollywood star walked down the aisle with actor Cody John in July of this year, after about four years together. They exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony at John’s family estate in Sun Valley, Idaho.
While the wedding was surrounded by close friends and family, Emma’s father was reportedly missing from the fanfare, causing multiple raised eyebrows.
Her time on “American Horror Story” seems to have left a lasting impact on the 35-year-old, as she took the haunted theme to her big day. She described the vibe of the ceremony as ” vintage, lace, form-fitting ”
While on the “Sibling Revelry” podcast, hosted by actor siblings Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, the Nickelodeon alum was asked about the inspiration behind her outfit choice.
“I wanted to look like a haunted doll, which people thought was weird, but that was my vibe,” she said, defending the ensemble.
The dress was a custom Monique Lhuillier gown. The yards of silk chiffon used to make the dress were dipped in tea to create a vintage appearance, which she paired with a see-through shawl and a white veil.
Emma added, “I wanted to look like a ghost, which people also thought was weird, but I loved it. And I have no regrets.”
The Reason Behind Emma Roberts’ Unexpected Wedding Outfit
While the actress’s daytime bridal style had a more classical appearance, her evening gown got even more attention.
The “Scream Queens” actress appeared in a striking two-piece set with a strapless lace corset. The outfit itself looked amazing on the 35-year-old. However, the less-than-traditional color was what turned heads.
“I love the idea of wearing black for the after-party. We love doing something that’s a little unexpected,” Emma noted.
The Blast reported that a 2004 collection inspired the design, but her team shortened the hemline to make it easier to dance in. Emma gushed at the unique getup, noting that it carried a timeless quality. “This looks like it could be totally vintage from 100 years ago, or from now,” she said.
Emma Roberts And Cody John Got Married In A Private Ceremony
The stunning vibe set the tone for her momentous occasion, as Emma and John tied the knot in a private ceremony on 25th July.
The intimacy of the day they exchanged vows was in keeping with the general low-key approach the Hollywood pair have taken with their relationship, only making public appearances a couple of times, despite being first linked in 2022, according to The Blast
Sources shared that the celebration was witnessed by close friends and family, affording them a celebration away from the spotlight, something the “We Are The Millers” star was not accustomed to.
Emma Roberts’ Father Opened Up On Missing His Daughter’s Secret Wedding
However, Eric Roberts was notably absent on his daughter’s big day. This was not so far-fetched, as Emma and her father have not had the best relationship for years.
“I love my daughter, always have, always will,” Eric said in response to not filling the father-of-the-bride shoes for the 35-year-old. “It is perfectly wonderful for her to celebrate however she wants, with whomever she wants.”
Julia Roberts, Eric’s sister, was nevertheless present to support her niece, according to The Blast.
Eric Roberts Explained His Strange Relationship With Daughter Emma Roberts
The actor himself would not describe his relationship with the newlywed as estranged, adding that only an outsider would see their dynamics as complicated due to their misunderstanding of the situation.
However, he took responsibility for his actions during Emma’s formative years, describing himself as a “wash rag” and “car wreck.”
Eric then lovingly reflected on when he pacified the “Wild Child” actress with a birthday song, when she stopped screaming and tried to find him. He described the moment as maybe the most complete moment he had ever had in his life, adding that it was nothing short of magical and unforgettable, per The Blast.
