Harry And Meghan Issued Warning About Archie And Lilibet’s Royal Future
Prince Harry faces ongoing tension with the royal family, as sources warn his children, Archie and Lilibet, may never have formal roles until he reconciles with Prince William.
Raised in California, the Sussex children have had limited contact with their royal cousins, while their father awaits approval for a visit to the U.K. with his family.
Security concerns remain central, with Prince Harry insisting on proper protection before bringing Meghan Markle and the young prince and princess to the U.K.
Prince Archie And Princess Lilibet’s Royal Roles Reportedly At Risk Until Harry Reconciles With William
Harry has reportedly been warned that his children, Archie and Lilibet, are unlikely to have any formal role in the royal family until he mends ties with Prince William.
Insiders suggest that even if Harry returns to the U.K. once his security arrangements are in place, Meghan Markle’s unpopularity could make it extremely difficult for the Sussexes to fully reintegrate, potentially affecting their children’s place in the monarchy.
Unlike their cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who grew up in Windsor, Archie and Lilibet have been raised far from royal life in Montecito, California, mostly appearing online through Meghan’s social media.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams warned, per The Express, “Harry will undoubtedly be back in the UK now he has got his security sorted, which paves the way for Meghan coming over, but she is hugely unpopular, so it is difficult to see how Archie and Lilibet would fit in with the family in the future.”
Prince Harry And Meghan’s Kids’ Royal Future Is Reportedly Uncertain Due To Their California Upbringing
Best-selling author Robert Jobson echoed this, noting that Archie and Lilibet’s upbringing in California keeps them largely detached from royal traditions.
“Whether they would ever want a role — and whether the Palace would welcome it — depends entirely on what happens between their father and the king in the years ahead. Right now, that bridge looks a long way from being rebuilt,” he said.
Royal author Phil Dampier added that the Wales children have formed close bonds with Zara and Mike Tindall’s children, leaving Archie and Lilibet increasingly distant.
Even invitations to milestones, like Lilibet’s first birthday at Frogmore Cottage, reportedly went unattended by George, Charlotte, and Louis.
He added: “It’s something Archie and Lilibet are missing out on and you just wonder if in years to come, when they grow up, they will start asking their parents why they are estranged from the Royal Family.”
The Duke Reportedly Hopes For Summer Reunion With King Charles And His Children
Amid these tensions, Harry is reportedly holding out hope for a family reunion. According to The Times, the Duke of Sussex hopes for an invitation from Charles to spend some “family time” this summer with his wife, Meghan, 44, and their children in Norfolk.
Such a visit would mark the first in-person contact between the King and his grandchildren since the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
Sources close to Harry say he is awaiting confirmation of security arrangements in the U.K., insisting he will not bring his family without proper armed protection.
Prince Harry Wants His Children To Know Their Family In The U.K.
Currently, when Harry travels to the U.K. alone for engagements, he is accompanied by his privately funded security team.
However, he receives publicly funded protection only for official events, such as Charles’s coronation in May 2023. D
Despite his trip to the U.K. hinging on security, sources claim the duke genuinely wants his children to know more about their royal family.
A source told The Times, “He’s not given up hope on bringing his family back to the U.K. He wants to be able to show his children where he grew up.”
They added, “He wants them to know their family here. He really would like to come back to the U.K. much more.”
Prince Harry’s Security Concerns Reportedly Strain Grandchildren’s Relationship With King Charles
Meanwhile, tensions between Harry and the royal family have simmered for years.
In 2024, friends of Charles suggested that Harry implied the monarch might never see his grandchildren unless his security concerns were addressed. Harry has maintained that Meghan could face serious risks from the press and public if she returned to the U.K.
Omid Scobie’s book “Endgame” recounts Harry reportedly telling Charles, “Don’t you want to see your grandchildren again?” after being asked to leave Frogmore Cottage.
At the time, a friend of the king described it as “emotional blackmail,” while another warned that preventing the children from forming a meaningful relationship with their grandfather could have long-term effects.
The last in-person meeting between Charles and his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, took place during the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Since then, their interactions have mostly been through video calls.
Allies of Harry stress that his concerns are about safety, not manipulation, while palace sources have cautioned that combining private family visits with formal royal security arrangements can create complications.
