It was a great week for Henry Cavill fans, who were treated to the first images of the former Superman actor in his new 80s action remake. Cavill posted the first photos from his Highlander reboot on his personal Instagram on Wednesday, confirming that the film was in production after several delays. Cavill’s post has racked up 1.7 million likes on Instagram in just the first 48 hours, and more are coming in by the minute. By the time it’s all said and done, it may be one of his most liked posts ever. Hype for Highlander is at an all-time high.

Joining Cavill in the Highlander remake is Russell Crowe, famed for his Oscar-winning work in Gladiator and other historical epics like Robin Hood and Noah. Collider was first to report Crowe’s involvement in the film last summer, and he has since confirmed that he will play Ramirez, who the late Sean Connery previously portrayed. Also set to star in the film is former WWE veteran Dave Bautista, who spoke with Collider late last year about his intense training regimen. Karen Gillan, Jeremy Irons, Marisa Abela, and Djimon Hounsou have also been tapped for roles in the film.

Ryan Condal, famed for his work writing the Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon, is writing the script for the Highlander reboot with Chad Stahelski directing. Stahelski previously directed all four of Keanu ReevesJohn Wick movies, and he was heavily involved in the making of the Ana de Armas-led spin-off, Ballerina. This will be his first time directing a non-John Wick film, and fans can rest easy knowing the action in Highlander will be top-notch.

Henry Cavill Has a Big Sci-Fi Movie Coming This Year

Before Highlander hits the big screen, likely sometime next year, Cavill will star in a live-action Voltron remake that wrapped production in 2025. The film does not yet have an official release date, but it has been confirmed to premiere before the end of 2026. Paradise star Sterling K. Brown will also have a role in the film, and he even teased it as an epic adventure while speaking to Collider not long ago. Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the live-action Voltron movie with a script he wrote with Ellen Shanman. Alba Baptista and Rita Ora will also star in the film.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Highlander while it continues production.
