It’s Officially the End of an Era for Apple TV’s Mind-Melting 3-Part Sci-Fi Series
It’s no secret that Apple TV has become the go-to streaming platform for all the best sci-fi shows. The streamer has found genre-defining hits with shows like Severance and Pluribus, but it also has hidden gems like Foundation and For All Mankind. HBO Max may be the streaming service that first comes to mind when someone asks about prestige dramas, but Apple TV officially has the streaming crown right now when it comes to sci-fi. Another exceptionally popular sci-fi series that’s blossomed under the watchful eye of Apple TV is Invasion, which hails from writers Simon Kinberg and David Weil. The show first premiered in 2021, and it aired new seasons in 2023 and 2025.
Apple TV has yet to publicly announce whether Invasion has been renewed or cancelled. However, right now most fans would agree that it’s leaning in the direction of not returning for Season 4, as it’s been over a year since Season 3 aired. At TIFF this weekend, Collider’s Steve Weintraub recently caught up with Invasion star Shamier Anderson, who plays Trevante Cole in the series, to talk about his new project Call Me Tim. During their conversation, Weintraub asked about the chances of Invasion extending beyond Season 3. “Oh man, three seasons for me was more than enough,” said Anderson. “The scale of that show is so, so gargantuan. We film all over the world. We film for maybe six to eight months, and it’s a lot of work. And so, even with the fact that we could have a second and then a third season, it was such a gift to be able to be Trevante, but ultimately, it’s very taxing — in a beautiful way.”
He continued, highlighting the challenges of flying around the world for months at a time to film the show, “A lot of traveling. There are moments and episodes… If I’m doing Episode 2, I’m shooting Episode 2 in Morocco. Then I got to go on a plane, shoot Episode 5 in London, England. And so, there’s a lot of traveling, and it’s taxing on the body and on the family.”
Is Shamier Anderson Ruling Out ‘Invasion’ Season 4?
Circling back and answering the original question, Anderson wouldn’t officially rule out a return for a potential Invasion Season 4, despite how much it wears on him filming such an intense schedule. He told Collider, “That said, to answer your core question, I never thought it would keep going because of how expensive it is. It’s just an expensive show to make. But I hope they keep making it over and over again because I love the show.”
Weintraub then shared his love for how much Apple TV has accomplished in the last few years in the sci-fi genre, and Anderson doubled down on the sentiment, “Agreed. Shout out Apple!” Weintraub also said that, when watching any Apple TV sci-fi show, it’s almost like you can see the money come through on screen — it’s usually quite clear that Apple TV invests heavily in its sci-fi shows. Anderson closed out by saying, “Oh, it’s Apple. They’ve got money.” This seemingly confirms that, if Invasion doesn’t return for another season, it won’t be for financial reasons.
Check out the first three seasons of Invasion on Apple TV and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of a potential fourth season.
