Jill Duggar Bares Her Grief With Touching Post

Two years after suffering a stillbirth, Jill Duggar Dillard has once again chosen vulnerability over silence, honoring her daughter’s memory while laying her grief open for the world to see.

She and her husband, Derick Dillard, who had kept the pregnancy private before the loss, later opened up to fans.

Although the Duggar family carried the weight of profound loss, there were also glimmers of joy as Jill’s sister, Jana Duggar, recently welcomed a baby, ushering in a bittersweet chapter for the family.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the “19 Kids and Counting” alum shared a tender glimpse into how their family continues to honor the memory of their daughter, Isla Marie, including a recent visit to her gravesite.

The first photo showed Jill standing at her daughter’s graveside. The headstone read, “ISLA MARIE DILLARD, MARCH 19, 2024. Born into the hands of Jesus,” offering context about her passing.

In the accompanying caption, the reality star poured out her heart, writing:

“Anyone who has experienced loss knows that it’s often in the quiet moments when the waves come stronger and we are reminded more of the hole left by a loss. Or sometimes it’s felt deeper at a place that just gives you the space to feel. I’m so grateful to have a place to go to remember our daughter.”

The remaining slides captured tender family moments with her children. She expressed gratitude for those brighter days as well, gushing about enjoying her kids’ cooking.

While Jill is honoring her daughter’s memory now, she has been open about the loss since 2024. The former 19 Kids and Counting star and her husband announced the heartbreaking news of their first daughter’s stillbirth in a joint Instagram post.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the stillbirth of our beautiful baby girl, Isla Marie Dillard. Jill was 4 months pregnant (due in August) when we found out that our baby died in utero,” the couple shared.

According to The Blast, the announcement marked the first time the public learned of the pregnancy, as they had previously kept the news private. They also expressed appreciation for the continued prayers and support from fans as they navigated their grief.

After announcing the loss, Jill shared intimate moments with fans that had remained private until then.

Per The Blast, the 32-year-old poured out her heart on Instagram, posting a series of photographs that captured tender milestones from her pregnancy journey.

In one image, she wore a white shirt tucked into a long skirt while gently cradling her baby bump. Another poignant snapshot showed her forming a heart over her belly with her hands.

“The baby bump photos we were so excited to share, but didn’t get to before she was gone,” she wrote in the caption, adding that Isla will always be daddy’s little girl. 

Although the couple had been vocal about the stillbirth, they did not fully discuss the emotional weight it carried until nearly two years later.

They revisited the experience during an appearance on the “Jinger and Jeremy” podcast.

Reflecting on that period, Derick admitted, “It was difficult, and I couldn’t take off like that much time because we had a lot going on that I had been the one to prepare for…And I just kind of kept on going. And we were both grieving, but in different ways.”

As The Blast reported, Jill recalled feeling unwell throughout her first trimester and said she had “just started feeling better” before the devastating loss.

As the grief intensified, she revealed that she was “crying every single day,” while Derick felt “torn” between his professional responsibilities and his family.

Still, she acknowledged that her husband was doing his best to balance his many obligations during that painful season.

Even in the shadow of loss, the Duggar family experienced a moment of celebration as Jana stepped into motherhood with the arrival of her first child with her husband, Stephen Wissmann.

As reported by The Blast, she shared the joyful news weeks after giving birth. “Archie Gerald Wissmann arrived on December 30, 2025, and our hearts have been completely changed,” she wrote, alongside photos of herself and her husband cradling their baby.

The announcement was met with warm reactions online, as fans joined the family in celebrating the new addition.
