William Shatner and his daughter Melanie Shatner are shedding light on their battles with stage IV cancer — which they fought at the same time.

Melanie, 61, was undergoing chemotherapy for stage IV breast cancer in June 2023 when William, 95, was diagnosed with stage IV malignant melanoma, which spread to his lungs and brain.

“I remember vividly thinking, ‘I don’t have the strength to take care of myself and lose my father at the same time,’” Melanie told People in an interview published on Wednesday, July 22.

William, meanwhile, remained positive while going through his own treatment. “They said, ‘You got cancer. If you came in later, you would have been dead,’” he said. “See? That’s my life. I think the universe is taking care of me.”

Melanie initially discovered a lump on her breast one year before her father’s diagnosis.

“I woke up in the middle of the night, and my finger moved up right beneath my breast. I felt a little bump and thought, ‘It’s just a bug bite,’” she recalled, noting she had a clear mammogram five months earlier.

Melanie got imaging done the next day just to be safe, adding, “Something pushed me back and said, ‘No, have her recheck it.’ She put the wand exactly where I put my finger and under her breath said, ‘Now, I would have missed that.’”

Melanie’s HER2-positive breast cancer spread to lymph nodes in her chest. William, for his part, was “devastated” to learn about his daughter’s health battle.

“She was very conscious of the importance of her life for herself and for her family,” he said.

William ultimately took on the cost of Melanie’s cancer treatment.

“You said to me, ‘I do not want you to worry. Just send me the bills,’” she shared. “Then you made me laugh so hard when I was still going to the doctor a year later. You said, ‘You’ve got to get well. We’re going to be in the poorhouse!’”

Melanie underwent multiple rounds of chemo with HER2-targeted therapies, a double mastectomy and 30 radiation therapy treatments.

“Chemo was the most physically draining, and the radiation I found so emotionally draining,” she added.

During her treatment, Melanie noticed a lump on her dad’s cheek.

“I went to the family doctor, and he said, ‘It’s your salivary gland. It’s blocked. Just massage it,’” William recalled about the mass, which continued to grow.

William later underwent surgery to remove the tumor on his face, which was followed by two years of immunotherapy to target the cancer in his lungs and brain.

“We got the perfect doctors for her cancer and my cancer,” William continued.

William and Melanie were both declared cancer-free in late 2024.

“It was the third time in my life I had heard him cry,” Melanie said, while her dad added, “I’m healthier now than I’ve been in years. The brain is like a muscle. It feeds on activity.”

After their individual health scares, Melanie and William each have a different outlook on mortality.

“I do think you’re going to outlive me, but I have always thought if you go first, then I won’t be afraid because you’ll be the one to be there for me when I go,” Melanie told William, who quipped, “It’s a huge responsibility.”

Lil Wayne is opening up about the time he recorded one of his headline-making albums from jail. During an appearance on the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast, the 43-year-old said he put in an extreme amount of time and effort while serving an 8-month sentence at New York’s Rikers Island to put his album together in 2010.

According to Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., he spent time in “the studio every night in jail,” revealing that the studio was actually him on the phone. “In my cell,” he added. “That meant everybody be quiet. I’m about to beat on this damn table.”

Although Lil Wayne had a 10:45 PM curfew, the rapper worked around it by starting his phone calls just before the cutoff time so that he could continue working on his project. “I would do it on purpose … That’s why everyone’s gotta lock in,” he said. “It was just me on the phone and [that way] I can actually record.”

Lil Wayne Said The People In Jail Made His Sentence Much Easier For Him

When Lil Wayne was asked if spending those eight months in jail was “the worst year” of his life, the rapper said it wasn’t that bad because the people at Rikers Island made it easier for him because of his status.

“… I have to give all of that thanks and credit to the people that were around me in there. They made it their job to make it easy for me,” he said.

Lil Wayne explained that when he first went in, he did what he could to make the days go by faster, but after some time, he accepted his fate. He even joined his fellow inmates by watching the Discovery Channel’s “Naked and Afraid.”

“You think they’re watching it because a female is in there naked. Nah, they know the storyline, they know everything,” he said.

In his memoir, “Gone ‘Til November,” Lil Wayne recounted his first day behind bars, stating that he was so beside himself that he had to speak with the facility’s psychiatrist.

“If I hadn’t traded my blue Marc Jacobs jeans, white polo, and gray Vans for green onesies, I wouldn’t have believed this shit myself. I had to talk to the prison psychiatrist when I got here. I told her that I shouldn’t be talking to her because I’m not crazy … but I ended up really enjoying her conversation,” part of the memoir read, per Revolt.

Elsewhere in the book, Lil Wayne said the prison’s captain warned him from the beginning that he would follow the rules and stay out of trouble.

“As soon as I sat down in the captain’s office, his exact first words to me were, ‘Don’t f-ck with my staff! Don’t come in here trying to be what you are. You’re not gonna ‘Lil Wayne’ up in this mothaf-cka!’ After the captain’s great words of discouragement, I was handed a towel, two sheets, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a green cup. DC Studios has released the official trailer for Clayface, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that this won’t be just another comic book movie. The new footage doubles down on the film’s gruesome body horror, delivering unsettling transformation sequences and psychological tension that make it feel closer to a modern horror classic than a traditional superhero blockbuster.

The trailer follows Matt Hagen (Tom Rhys Harries), a Gotham City native whose rise from the streets to Hollywood stardom comes to a devastating end after a violent encounter leaves him horribly disfigured. Desperate to reclaim his life and career, Hagen turns to scientist Dr. Caitlyn Corr (Naomi Ackie) for an experimental treatment. Instead of healing him, the procedure begins transforming him into the shape-shifting monster known as Clayface, sending him down a path of revenge as he slowly loses his grip on reality.

One sequence has already become the trailer’s defining moment. During a terrifying scene aboard an airplane, Hagen watches his face begin to melt before frantically using a pair of scissors in a desperate attempt to stop the transformation. Director James Watkins revealed that the sequence was so graphic that even members of the production crew struggled to watch it while filming. While previous marketing teased the film’s horror influences, today’s trailer fully embraces them. Grotesque facial distortions, melting flesh, and increasingly violent transformations dominate the footage, reinforcing DC Studios’ promise that Clayface is a genuine R-rated horror film rather than a superhero movie with horror elements. The film draws clear inspiration from body horror classics while telling a tragic story about fame, identity, and obsession.

Interestingly, the trailer still refuses to reveal Clayface’s complete monstrous form. Instead, Warner Bros. continues to tease glimpses of Hagen’s final transformation without giving audiences a full look at the iconic Batman villain, preserving one of the movie’s biggest surprises for its theatrical release.

Joining Harries and Ackie is Max Minghella as Gotham City detective John Pearlman, who becomes entangled in Hagen’s horrifying descent. The film is directed by James Watkins from a screenplay by Hossein Amini, based on a story by Mike Flanagan, with producers including James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Matt Reeves.

If today’s trailer is any indication, Clayface may end up being one of the most unique comic book adaptations ever released. Rather than relying on massive action sequences or world-ending stakes, the film appears focused on delivering an unsettling character-driven horror story that pushes the DC Universe into entirely new territory.

Kenny Rodriguez Addresses Racist Text Claims And The Backlash He Faced Following His Breakup With JaNa Craig

Kenny Rodriguez recently sat down with Zachary Cummings on ‘The Journey ‘Podcast, where he opened up about his breakup with JaNa Craig. During the interview, Kenny addressed the alleged racist text message controversy that surfaced after his breakup with JaNa.

He claimed he generalized a few things while venting to a friend and apologized. Kenny says he understands how the messages could hurt people. He maintained that the messages do not define who he is, explaining they were sent while he was venting after enduring what he described as verbal abuse.

“I’ve dated Black women before. I have Black ancestry. I’m Dominican. Half of my family is dark skin. So how — there was never a problem with race. The problem was with how you were treating me,” he said.

Kenny also alleged that JaNa got physical with him the night she found the messages on his phone. When asked whether any of his ‘Love Island USA’ season 6 castmates reached out following the breakup, Kenny claimed Kordell Beckham did. He added that he has the utmost respect for him.

As clips of Kenny Rodriguez continued circulating online  Kordell quickly took to his Instagram Story to shut down the claims. Kordell made it clear that he stands with JaNa and that the call didn’t go as Kenny mentioned during the interview. He also denied ever condoning Kenny’s actions, writing, “@kennyrodriguez We not even gon get on how you sat on that podcast and lied the entire time, but what we not gon do is lie like I condoned anything you did/said. After YOU called me I got on that and we haven’t spoke since. Shout out my sis Jana love you for life girl. And keep my mf name out your mouth I don’t fw you bro.”

Following Kordell Beckham’s response, JaNa Craig also took to her Instagram Story as she claimed she received a cease-and-desist before Kenny Rodriguez appeared on a podcast and made what she called “straight lies” about her. She challenged Kenny to give her permission to release their text messages, saying they would help tell the full story.

“Very ballsy of you, insane. But if you wanna play, let’s play. I think you should give me permission to drop all the text messages. Why don’t we start there? Give me permission to drop all the text messages, and then we can just go from there. You know everything you told was a lie,” she said in part.

JaNa also said she had stayed quiet for nearly a year following their breakup to focus on herself. She is now waiting for his lawyers to respond. JaNa Craig reposted Kordelll’s Instagram Story responding to Kenny Rodriguez, writing, “Love you Kordell more than anything. My brother for life.”

The following day, she returned to her Instagram Story to address claims that she assaulted Kenny.

“Never in my life have I assaulted anyone, ever. It’s not even in my character. I would never do such a thing. Most importantly, even after I’ve learned from a particular someone their views of the Black community, about the LGBTQ community, about immigrants in our country, even though their dad is an immigrant in America, I still would never, ever get physical,” she said.

Admitting they argued at times like any couple. JaNa also questioned why Kenny was making it seem like they were miserable together. JaNa also reassured fans that she isn’t stressing because she, Jesus, and God know what truly happened throughout their relationship. She thanked supporters for standing by her, adding that she isn’t bothered by the claims and is doing just fine.
